Does the continues crapification of Windows ever make either of you consider Mac OS? Nvidia's greed and the direction of Windows has me looking hard at a Mac Studio after building my own PCs for the last 30 years.
Some days there's nothing to talk about, other days we end up down an existential crisis.
Microsoft is honestly trying to get people to not use their products…..
It ends with me moving to Linux and I've been using Windows since 3.0.
Having to go to a separate program for basic word processing stuff reminded me of typing university papers on a Commodore Amiga. The spell check was a separate program. I had to save documents in ASCII, reboot into the spellcheck, load the file, make corrections, reboot back to the word processor, and do the final WYSIWYG formatting.
“Synonyms are dead, long live not the rainforest” 🎉
I just tried synonyms with "classic Word". It is there for me. I have the Family Plan and I am the purchaser.
Re Netflix duh how could I have forgotten the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight. That must be what Netflix calls "programming investments". Throwing subscribers money on the fire. Netflix is worse than local city council spending $. I have MS365 and got a notification that it now has Co-pilot. In Word on Windows the synonyms are still there on left mouse click.
Full screening Paul doesn't accomplish anything when he is using vertical video mode.
lets Brad do other things besides stare at the camera
@@thurrottcom Hah! Fair enough!
Hmmmm...just checked my Word (365 version) on my desktop and it still shows me synonyms via the right click. I don't have co-pilot....is that why?
I bet that's why.
My daughter lost one of her AirPods recently - check the underwear drawer.
It is downright balmy here in Canada. The windchill is -20c right now or -4F. After -45c windchill the pat couple of days it is BBQ weather here ;)
Sounds like a boiling kettle in the background.
MS365 price hikes $36 USD or $50 CAD a year. MS has resorted to opt-out for MS365 and revert back to other plans that are temporary. We all know how much people keep an eye on yearly subscirptions. If MS365 is such a good value then why not pay the full value? If you have only 2 people on MS Family the value is debatable. My experience with copilot, when one asks non-programming tech questions, is meh. It gives incorrect information and one may not realize that information is incorrect unless you do your own research.
Do you not know that there are 3rd party remotes
I bet the dog ate it
I love this new format of having a pre podcast podcast and then summarizing the pre podcast on the podcast.
The dating confused everybody... I don't know why they didn't just put it in text "April 2nd.". lol.
I’m on your text thread
At least Pittsburgh is not in the playoffs? YOU SONNA-!
Matt Groening from the Simpsons it’s pronounced Gray-Ning….
Here's the new slogan for FRD, First rate entertainment with a pinch of tech news lol.
Did you actually say, Paul, that "you can get used to having cancer"? Do YOU have 20/20 hindsight, too? Be kind, rewind!;-)
I think this is supposed to be episode 1723.
I think this is supposed to be episode 1722.
"A robot with a gun" 🤣🤣🤣
Wait… so just putting out that “This is an Xbox” commercial didn’t fix their handheld problems?
You're honestly surprised that a Microsoft entity broke things with an update?
Hyped to put Steam OS on my Ally X. I'll gladly lose out on a couple of games to get away from Windows and Copilot. Arch Linux on my XPS laptop was my first step; Steam OS on my handheld will be my next step. Will have a mini PC with Windows 11 on it to remote into when I need a Windows based app.
Apple built iMacs 10 miles south of me 25 years ago. It can happen.
First! 😂
Here's some ideas for Microsoft for Xbox: 1. Release a HDMI stick that comes with one controller and connects to Xbox Cloud for like $60 and which has at least one month free trial. Make it super cheap to have an entry-point 2. Release more games on PS5 and Switch 2, but only after being on Xbox for up to a year first. Timed exclusives still give Xbox console owners an initial advantage 3. Add an Xbox Mode to Windows 12, where drivers and updates are controlled by you to avoid the usual issues they cause, and eliminate the need for anti-cheat, by making those game files inaccessible
Thanks.
If I drank every time I heard the word AI yesterday between Intel, AMD and Nvidia I would be suffering from alcohol poisoning. I am just fed up with hearing AI mentioned with every bleeping product. Anyone see AI toilet paper? Sigh
The operative word is SAID to have the same as a 4090. Lets wait til the reviews out. Marketing speil is what we saw last night and it's main purpose is to vacuum out your bank account.
I just want Cortana back. Having it on my Xbox and PC was incredibly useful and it could do more for me than anything the exists now for non Apple users. Having Cortana powered by Copilot would have been a winner.
The 5070's performance is almost certainly not equal to the 4090 in raw horse power. That is probably just some NV math factoring new ways of frame-generation and DLSS modi. NV already fudged the numbers comparing the 4070 ti to the 3080ti last time around. To Paul's "we reached peak graphics", the shift to Ray Tracing is something integrated graphics will be struggling with. RT only titles like the new Indy game will be instances, where you can clearly make out the difference between the platforms.
I want me computing to be cutting edge tech but want my car to be analog. You can get a 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S with a manual transmission.
In order to reduce the risk of BMW drivers accidentally engaging the paddle shifters, they should put them next to the turn signals.
I want a TV not only without an OS, but without speakers, because all built in TV speakers are rubbish. Just give me a slim, big screen and NOTHING more, please!!
Apps subsidize tvs. It's one of the primary reasons for tvs being so cheap. A dumb tv will notably more expensive.
I remember the time Brad posted about updating the firmware on a lightbulb.
I want the display to be dumb because whatever integrated device is going to be garbage before the TV has aged out.
I'll miss manuals when the UK goes fully electric.
My last car with a manual transmission was a 2012 Ford Fusion. I got it pretty cheap because the dealer couldn't sell the manual cars.
I am just waiting for the day when a new TV WILL NOT function unless it is connected to the internet 🤮
The connection requirement is why PS3/X360/Wii were the last game consoles I bought. AFAIK, every console after that needs to "phone home" to update the copy protection.
When I first learned to drive, my father taught me on my grandmothers 1950 Pontiac. It was a manual transmission, but the stick shift was on the steering column!! Then, after I had gotten used to driving that, I immediately had to drive with a stick on the floor. Yes, I'm old and I will never have another one but I will always love standard transmissions.
It's crazy that I had the same issue a couple of days ago. I was uploading some files to edit and figured it would be done in the morning, but instead, it had barely made any progress. I assumed there must be some browser feature that just puts the process to sleep after a while.
Doesn't Weather Underground get data from those plastic toy looking weather stations that i see on Amazon? Never been sure how accurate those things are.....
Its personal weather stations which the end user can select for at least the current conditions. I don't know how they formulate their actual forecasts
Even here 11" of snow is a good dump. Major streets would be plowed in 2 days along with the sidewalks. A whole city plow costs over $2M+ and that happens several times each winter.
