@1:57:52 Martin Lewis " can you tell me what you and your family are going through with the missile attack?" Man: "we are having quality time watching Monty Python"😂😂😂
Ian st John the worst performance ever against the 6/1 3rd favs for the whole competition,be realistic man
BBC1 actually aired "We'll Meet Again" on 10th June 1994, due to satellite problems.
Portugal came close to winning the 1984 Euros, beat West Germany in a qualifier (the only time the West Germans lost a qualifier) yet at the time I don't remember anyone speaking about them in a favourable light at all. It was weird. Morocco beating Portugal in the last match of the group was one of the big shocks in WC history.
We should of had a Penalty!
England deserved to win but the Germans allways find a way.
Germany were very strong defensively.
did she know that that would be a reboot in 15 years time?
Who found this, then a few days later you watch shed 17 and realize this clip was in it?
Des was 47 here. I’m 47 ……
I remember being blown away by ELO, but only truly appreciate now how great the rest of the line up were that day. Robert Plant, the Moody Blues!
Really! Jeff Lynne and The Moody Blues together. Absolute Heaven.
The sound is not up to par! I can hardly hear it.
I was lucky enough to be there for all day. What a lovely experience it was.
Me Too
Think Shilton was too old for this tournament
Oh yes, I remember the days when BBC 2 used to do comedy - totally abandoned the genre now in 2024 leaving it to ITV and Channel 4.
You knew something terrible was happening when the BBC wheeled David Dimbleby into a darkened studio.
I bet there were millions of viewers back then who couldn't give a crap about the war, and hated having their TV disturbed.
A brilliant actor and a lovely, down to earth man. He played the third incarnation of the Doctor with great charm and excellent wit. God bless you Jon ❤ 😊
Sir Bobby showing his class in the interview ❤❤
Still waiting
It's the emotions and the nostalgia that gives in to reason when it tries to justify why England "should" have won this world Cup. But in reality, this was England's only second decent performance in Italy, while W.Germany had been consistently excellent up to this point. W.Germany were the best team and they deserved the win. Even if England had played Argentina in the final, anything could have happened for Argentina themselves had beaten USSR & Brazil to get that far and held off against the favourites Italy as well as Yugoslavia. There is no way that final would have been a given & it is strange some people think that.
Like me, it seems you actually watched the games at the time and not “I love the 90s’ documentaries. England were dreadful against Ireland, only drew with Holland because they were busy arguing with each other and van basten was crocked, patchy against Egypt, lucky against Belgium, frankly dreadful in parts against Cameroon and played mostly decent against Germany. And the third place against Italy showed why Shilton shouldn’t have been first choice. And not the only time either - a younger keeper would have got to that deflected free kick against Germany. If you remember 1990 as some triumphant England tournament run you weren’t there and should shut up.
Interesting analysis at half time. I always felt Germany never played as well in their green strips.
"So far - and I hope I'm not tempting fate- England have been able to crowd hi m (Maradonna) out"
what a game to have been at.
Jimmy Hill speaks so well and I have the upmost respect for him and his love for the game. As a kid I thought he was boring but hearing him now many of his points are spot on and are great lessons for today!
JH - "And they used to say cheats never prosper" JM - "Well let's hope they don't from this free kick(!)"
Oh, those poor, poor men, how happy they are, not knowing that their dreams would soon be crushed and nothing be left but tears.
the worst words a football purist can hear as he settles in to watch an old match on YT "Uruguay only need a draw to go through here"
What an era can never forget this game neverrrr
Is that old dalby test track.
I think so that looks like the Old Dalby REME depot behind it .
MJ was supposed to perform September 29 but go reschedule to October 1st for unknown reason😮
those shorts!
Shilton was way too old at this point tbh. A legend no doubt. But Seamen should’ve been played, much younger and agile. Also a good penalty stopper.
and could save a penalty
he was injured and withdrawn from the squad earlier in the tournament
that pitch - that stadium
It seems that no one at that time realizes Shilton was breaking Sepp Maier record(minutes without conceeding a goal)
Oh Peter should never have been in go he was finished five years ago. Should’ve been kicked out after the 86 World Cup.
when he got out jumped by a dwarf
Shilton was one of the reasons England got to the semi-final.
@@Ruda-n4h The Ordinary player according to you on another thread. You know nothing about football
The worst world cup but England should have won😢
Thanks for uploading this. Wanted to see the BBC coverage of this.
Pity the next two idents of Parts 3 and 4 were Optics and Neon.
The 'new face' comment would've been very odd, when introducing part one of this story.....he didn't get his new face until the end of episode four....!
Good
Probably Englands best game ld the tournament
Agree.
i am here for tom ellis man...my man had to work real hard to get where he is now
14:49 - Can we take a moment to appreciate how good the lighting is for Brian Barron's live report?
Sock-ah
This best game of football I've ever seen from a England team...considering the heat the 3rd game in a row with extra time and more importantly the opposition...that German team was outstanding...the best German team I've ever seen...so close...Argentina in the final would have been no problem for England...this was England's final
I'm not sure you can say that. Argentina, were unpredictable. They still had Maradona and a very decent Claudio Cannigia. Bar the Netherlands, this was England's only half decent performance. While Argentina had beaten Brazil, USSR and Italy en route. Gazza suspended. Had England played Argentina in the final, anything could have happened.
@@Dead-Ball-Situation Claudio Caniggia was suspended for the final after getting a second yellow card in the semi-final. But Argentina still had world class players in Maradona, Burruchaga and Ruggeri. And the others who weren't suspended for the final were all tough, experienced players. They would have played for penalties, like they did against Germany, so it would have been a very tough match for England. As it was for Germany.
@@Lab1968 Yea either way Argentina would have still been a tough game. i don't understand how some people believe it would have been a gimme. Gazza would have also been suspended. Psycholigically, England also struggled to cope with being favourites.
@@Dead-Ball-Situation It would have been a 50/50 match. With the advantage to Argentina in a penalty shootout. Peter Shilton was pretty hopeless at saving penalties. In comparison, Sergio Goycochea, as well as winning two shootouts, very nearly saved Brehme's penalty in the final (the one he took with the right foot!).
_Bit disappointing but there it is_
Great upload - do you have anything from ITN?
And then Graham Taylor wrecked England 😂
Clown
🔔 end
England werent great to begin with. They scraped past Belgium and Cameroon
And England having stopped banging about Italia '90 for the past 34 years; anybody would think England won the damn thing 😂😂😂😂
Bore off 👍
England should've won it lol
Our last World Class team at a World Cup. Fact.
@@pearcegreatesteverleftback03 A team of quite ordinary talents I'm afraid.
