Visit to the Institute of Khmer Traditional Textiles (IKTT)
I had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Khmer Traditional Textiles (IKTT) in the Angkor Thom District of Siem Reap, located in north western Cambodia. IKTT was founded by the late Kikuo Morimoto, a Japanese textile expert who sought to revive and preserve the craft of Cambodian silk weft ikat tradition. The mission of this organization and the master skill of the craftspeople who carry this weaving tradition forward are highly impressive. This is a recording of my visit on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

MORDANTS | An alum mordant is added to the silk to assist in the dyeing process, binding the color to the silk. To change the color of an already dyed silk that had used an alum mordant the silk can be immersed into an iron mordant bath, which includes a mixture of iron, lime fruit, and palm sugar.
DYEING PROCESS | This process of dyeing is repeated to produce darker more saturated colors.
RED and PURPLE COLOR | Red dye comes from nests of the lac insect (type of scale). The lac is crushed into a powder, and tamarind is added to extract the red pigment. The dye bath sits for a few days before use. By adding an iron mordant after dyeing with lac, this will change the red color to purple.
YELLOW and GREEN COLOR | Yellow dye comes from the bark of the Prohut tree. By adding an iron mordant after dyeing with the Prohut bark, this will change the yellow color to green.
BROWN and BLACK COLOR | Brown dye comes from the Indian Almond Leaf, and by adding an iron mordant it will change the brown color to black. The process is repeated several times until a rich black is achieved.
BLUE COLOR | Blue due comes from the leaves of the Indigo plant.
ORANGE-RED COLOR | Orange-red comes from the seeds of the Achiote/Annato tree.
GREY COLOR | Grey dye comes from the wood of the Lychee tree.
TAN COLOR | A warm tan color comes from the thick fibery skin of a Coconut.

Photoshop for Textiles Design | Seaming a Textile Croquis
มุมมอง 8323 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is a follow-up to questions recieved about seaming together a croquis, a composition of motifs that imply a repeat, but is not technically drawn out as a repeat layout. This is a different process than building a pattern composition one motif at a time. This method displaces negative space in the ground to the edge, which is cropped down to a more interconnected pattern. The last min...

    This is good, please do more of these. Also, I was having trouble keeping up with how you were selecting the parts of the chair so easily. My selections did not behave the way yours did. Can you go over that a little more slowly?

    Hi, I watched all your videos, you are sooo good. Would it be possible to make a video on how to index a print that has soft edges, rather than a more graphic style? What would your approach be to maintain the "painterly" effect?

    What will be canvas size for bedsheet designing in photoshop please help

    • @NoonanStudio
      @NoonanStudio ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Dilhar, to answer your question, there are many answers to your question. Are you designing a bedsheet pattern that is screen printed or jacquard woven? If it is screen printed, is it to be flatbed printed to the full sheet size or rotary printed? All methods of manufacturing will dictate the parameters of your Photoshop canvas size, and each manufacturer has their own set or parameters. If you are only designing concepts, not manufacture-ready design files, size your canvas to the best aesthetic outcome of the artwork.

    When I use the offset, there is a huge gap in between the artwork, I don't know what I did wrong.

    • @NoonanStudio
      @NoonanStudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I recommend flattening all the layers before offsetting, this will contain your visible image to the canvas size. If the layers are not flat, the layer size can and maybe larger than your canvas size. In this case the result would be offsetting a layer that is larger (or smaller) than your canvas size. I hope this helps. - Jeremy
