I am from San Diego and surfed this spot a dozen times in my road trip travels. Can be sooo fun, but usually its crap and even by "naming" it in the video, most people wouldnt even know how to find it anyway. I will actually be up there 1st week of August and will be giving it a go;)

I reaally want to start surfing as a hobby but am scared about Santa Cruz's ocean.. I'm worry about sharks or any other animals in ocean I should be aware of and tbh my first time that I went surfing was in Hawaii at Waikiki and I felt safe there but that's about it. Any advise or recommendation?

This place is like 1.5-2 ft of water depth too deep from being a completely different surf spot which would be an epic fashion. It's just a little too deep sadly. You can see how slow and wonky it is because of it and this is true even on good days. I definitely don't miss the crowd of this place since I moved out of the area. The overwhelming majority of swells when you're on the wave you can see it's trying to form up into a solid bowl in front of you and it almost does but it fails to do so nearly every time because of the depth. Otherwise this place would be a f****** freight train.

I surfed whalers in ccc during high-school at del Norte high back in 1982 to 1985 .It was notorious to break big.Pebble Beach and Garths also was decent.It is a rock reef break or jetty.

Very nice video. We lived there for a few months back in 1980. Summertime on the beach, down jackets on, 55 degrees, and 110 degrees just a few miles inland, enjoying a cool dip in the river.

Back in the ‘90’s my friends and I called the place “Baby Malibu”. I once surfed it for 5 1/2 hrs. Great wave. Got some old vhs tapes of us getting 30 second rides. Man, I miss it.

Crazy I’ve never surfed this spot I’ve been through a dozen times. Surfed the little peak by the jetty once. But dude I stopped to fish off the inlet there and got stung by some strange creature in the rocks there. Felt like a stingray but on steroids lol. Got a bitchen scar lol.

Great video production and sound! Great job! I surfed there back in 1999 or so. Big, brutal, and COLD! I had to paddle in through the boat channel as the salmon fishermen were heading out!
