Wow, those before-and-after shots are something to see! Great update!
How is Evan’s White Horse Inn these days? Any vacancies?
Who was your surgeon?
@@reapersofchao Dr.Benjamin Walline
I've never related more to someone's story. I brought my laptop with my OSCAR data to my meeting with my sleep doctor, and I asked him to look at the flow rate data, because it looked like I was waking up from respiratory disturbances every few minutes, and he looked at me and said, "why would I look at flow rate data? It's useless."
Thank you Evan! Really appreciate you. Does she do expansion of the mandible too with a similar procedure as Dr. Yousefian's DAME?
@@310587xD I don't think so. I believe she said she's done it before but they're too risky. I can't remember for sure.
It looks like he had something done with his chin, which looks more longer now comparing with his 2 years ago video. Someone explain pls. I am planning to get MSE but don't want my face longer.
who did your surgery? thanks
Hey Evan, going undergoing a very similar journey as you. By any chance do you have an email address I could send you over a few questions? I'm a 22m from San Diego, just graduated college now looking to solve my sleep apnea
@@in-motion6419 sure! elavizadeh@gmail.com
Currently undergoing the same journey as you. RIght now doing invisalign after MSE waiting for jaw surgery. I would like to ask you, how long did it take to stabilize your bite after MSE before it was ready for MMA. i litterally just have to endure shit sleep before my MMA and i dont want to wait to long...
@@user-ge2jd2ow7y I think 8 months or so. It sucked
I've noticed this, when you go under surgery to get your sutures opened, and expander. After, many people have a lisp? what causes this. I'm highly interested in this Maxillary Expansion due to my incisor overlapping another. since my childhood and I believe I have a high arching palate. I haven't seen any orthodontic/dental professional in 6 years and I'm currently 18. I talked to my mom about seeing an Orthodontist and we're gonna see the dentist first she said in 2 weeks. I also really want to avoid having to take out my wisdom teeth because I also understand teeth can help structure the face a little bit. Do you have any advice for when I meet the Dentist because I want to also see an Orthodontist.
@@chickenoodle3397 the lisp is just because the expander is in the mouth. The lisp goes away when the expander is removed.
@@evanlavizadeh4032 Ohhh that makes sense
Hi!!! I just had my first ever sleep study done and am new to this whole space. I was diagnosed with mild apnea with an arousal index of 30. The recommendation was to get a CPAP machine. I am not a mouth breather but was wondering if this is the best option? As I would have to use the CPAP forever and am worried about it causing further irritation. It seems that surgery could be a permanent solution. Just looking for honest thoughts here!
It might end up being your best solution, but you have to try CPAP (and/or BiPAP and/or APAP) first. And you should probably try a mandibular advancement device (AKA “oral appliance”) first, too….after the CPAP, that is, assuming CPAP doesn’t do the trick for you. Don’t get discouraged. Take it one step at a time. Know that you might be having more than just mild sleep apnea if your arousal index is 30; not all tests can detect all breathing problems. If you want to learn a lot, check out Evan’s older videos, and listen to the podcast Sleep Apnea Stories (hosted by Emma Cooksey). You have to take the information in Sleep Apnea Stories with a grain of salt (I heard that Vivos appliances don’t work very well, for example), but there is a lot of good stuff to learn in there. I’ve binged the first 55 episodes so far.
Just curious, did you try a mouthpiece that holds your jaw forward while you sleep before having the surgery done? If so, how did that go? And what was your ahi before having the surgery?
Wow you look totally different
I've been wondering how you're doing. Good to see you're happy brother
What visual effects did you notice in your nose and lips after MMA?
Does this widen your nasal base visually from the outside. Did you notice you nose change after MSE?
@@Skiroy I didn't notice any visual changes in the nose.
I'm going to get a marpe. I'm a bit scared. Your videos are very helpful
I tried using mse but my palatine bone is very thin and it was not recommended as it could fail to open, can sarpe improve nasal breathing?
Glad to hear your doing better. Did you get your plates removed or planning to? Just wondering
@@Sunrise-fr9jb not planning to. They'll most likely stay there for life.
and how much time did you have all of that, why nobody talks about the time???!!!
That's great. I'm about to start on my journey of MSE followed by MMA. How many mms did your jaws get moved forward, and did you get any rotation or any impaction?
I don’t have many of these signs except the last one. My nose got injured due to a basketball and which probably caused the last one.
Sorry that people are commenting on baldness... I have a large birthmark on my face... I get told I should have surgery... So I know how it is. I hope it doesn't discourage you from making more videos.
@@brendalg4 that's very sweet of you to say 🩷 thank you, really. I'm accepting it :) and I'm sorry to hear that people say that to you, that's not right.
@@evanlavizadeh4032 I shouldn't have said surgery. They do it with a laser. One interesting story happened at my eye doctor appointment. One of his workers had a family member that had a baby with a birthmark. He asked me if I would talk to her. It would be nice if the world would accept people as they are. I had a treatment as a child that didn't work. (Not laser... Probably wasn't invented.) The reason I wanted treatment was I thought maybe it would help me make friends. It is wrong for society to make someone feel they need to change their personal appearance. Your video came up because I typed a question into an AI about UARS... I recognized you and wondered if there was an update.
perfect! now you need to do a hair transplant!
@@FreeFrag777 need? Am I gonna die if I don't?
@@evanlavizadeh4032 may be! who knows. But jaw now looks perfect. Hair procedure is much more easy to do. I actually started with hair. Now i need to fix the jaw and a bit affraid of it. And it will be waaay more expancive. In turkey it's pretty cheap to transplant the hair (but don't use any clinic!)
@@evanlavizadeh4032 and that's funny! i'm having that nose issue. It's a bit difficult to breath. And doctors they said - "are you a boxer? your nose has deformation! Let's drill it or birn it!" But in fact it was a jaw! and nobody told me that! I'm almost 40 years old!
are you still using retainer?
@@FreeFrag777 ahh I see. Yeah I had similar experiences. Yes, I have to wear a retainer for the rest of my life every night.
Hello, I have a question about the MSE you had. Did you have the device in while you were wearing Invisalign to correct the gap? Or was the device taken out by that time already?
@@timwook3437 sort of both. I didn't have Invisalign while I was actively expanding. However, even after you are done expanding, you still need to keep the MSE installed until the bone heals. I got Invisalign after I was done expanding but I didn't get the MSE removed until months later.
@@evanlavizadeh4032 Thank you! Also, another question if you don’t mind, did you need to do any mandible expansion after the MSE? I’ve heard in your other video that you had almost 7mm difference between your maxilla and mandible.
@@timwook3437 no, I compensated orthodontically. I would have pursued mandibular expansion if it was safer

hey man, I am wearing MSE and it didn't help my UARS/ nasal congestion, it even makes my breathing more dry because of too wide of a frontal nasal passage but narrow posterior nasal. I am reverse turning my MSE and I will find a dentist or surgeon that can do EASE surgery like Dr. Kasey Li th-cam.com/video/a4OZvgt2HqU/w-d-xo.html
7:47 gesundheit 😂
Haha had to keep that part in!
You may not be a medical professional, but you could be among the best medical professionals if you wanted to be. Your capacities for learning, thinking critically, and communicating effectively are all top notch!
Thank you for saying that!!! That's very nice of you to say. Best wishes!
I had MMA only, but it didn’t cure my UARS. Looking at getting expansion within the next year. Do you recommend MARPE with surgical cuts or EASE? I’d prefer to get MARPE since EASE is so expensive.
MARPE or MSE didn't help me too, because my posterior nasal congestion blocks my breathing. I am reverse turning my MSE back and hope I can find a surgeon that can do EASE that I can afford.
i mean if you have the money, EASE for sure. hard to go wrong with Dr. Li. there's also FME, which is a newly released bone borne expander that has been making a lot of waves, but it's still a bit too early to say conclusively what its capabilities are
So you go to duble jaw surgery with class 1 bite?
God for u Idont have an gap ..0 bone expansion onlyyy my mse was pulling or shifting the molars only from one side horrible asymmetric job
Thank you for mentioning specific costs, timelines, and payment/insurance details! This is helping me compile a list of people and places to consider doing MMA surgery. (I will consider MSE if someone tells me I actually need it; this hasn’t been on my radar and I don’t have any idea of whether it would be necessary for me.) Part of the challenge for me is that I live in Arkansas so I don’t know whether anyone does these surgeries around here. And if I moved (a real possibility), it would be to the northeast, which would make Los Angeles even further away! But having this kind of information can only help my search.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Your videos helped me recognize my issues (never having been to an orthodontist) and at 50 years old started my journey with an ENT and ortho. Had extensive nasal surgery and am now in orthodontics with SARPE scheduled for late August. Likely MMA next year. Your video showing the symptoms of narrow palate and airway issues was what inspired me to start this journey. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t breath through my nose and why the edges of my tongue are scalloped. No dentist EVER suggested I had a narrow palate or asked how my air way was. I’m very thankful you chose to share your experience and for your updates.
Good luck to you! Yeah dentistry is changing for the better.
39:10 “There are a lot of people that are fine anatomically, but they have sleep apnea.” Central sleep apnea, sure. But if she’s talking about obstructive sleep apnea, this was be pretty mind-blowing. I guess the only way I can make sense of that is if you change the way the muscles are controlled. Sign me up for a study-this is a puzzle that needs to be solved!
I mentioned some of those concepts in previous videos. Things like poor loop gain, low arousal threshold, poor muscle activation, etc. Here's a source www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5789079/
Nice. I’m digging the nerdy details!
How did you like mayo therapy?
Hard to stick with. Plus I was recovering from jaw surgery so I had two confounding variables so it was hard to isolate the benefit from mft vs jaw surgery
If I open my mouth and relax my tongue, then bite I would bite 4mm of the top of my tongue off. Doesn’t mean that side MSE expansion alone won’t get my tongue out of my airways? Doesn’t this mean I have to have forward expansion?
This is so awesome, thank you for the update! You may have mentioned this in another video, but what were your in-lab AHI and RDI before your MMA surgery? The fact that you got them both down to 0.1 is absolutely incredible! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
AHI 7, RDI 20.
