I have a passion for weather and radios. On this channel, you'll find videos of storms, NOAA Weather Radio and EAS alerts, DXing, trains, and more, mainly from North Georgia and nearby areas.
I use three main NWR stations: WXJ53, KEC80, and KXI22, all originating from the Peachtree City (FFC) WFO, and can receive many more at various points in time.
I have a number of videos that were taken before I made the channel, mainly going back to late 2019, and they will be uploaded as soon as possible.
Thank you for watching, and enjoy!

Archived Broadcast- NWR Station WXJ53 Talks About Hurricane Ian’s Impacts Coming to GA (9/29/2022)

A little before midnight on September 29, 2022, I recorded my main NOAA Weather Radio station’s broadcast cycle as it discussed the coming impacts to my area (piedmont of Georgia) of then-tropical-storm Ian. I honestly hardly remember what it even did here; it must have been nothing compared to where it made landfall.

(EXTREMELY Rare) Hazardous Materials Warning + Shelter In-Place Warning Scrolls on NWR! (Missed EAS)
มุมมอง 52221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Recorded on 10/1/2024. I got awakened with a big jolt by this extremely rare Hazardous Materials Warning at 4:00 AM last night. I couldn’t record the actual alert, but I did catch the end of its first repeat (which, oddly enough, is the only time KEC80 seems to have repeated it). I hope no one is still having health problems from this.

Originally recorded on February 20, 2024. Finally! A name-brand handheld weather radio! Even if it’s no HH54, I’ve spent a lot of time using the 259 since recording this, and it’s honestly been really great. Maybe there’s a way to fix the distorted audio, but I don’t mind it too much. I do still need to finish cleaning out the battery compartment, though.

I like storms.
We all love storms when we hear the “WEWOWEWOWEWO- (1050HZ tone) The national weather service in”
That first beep is like a V6 WR-100's dead tuner screaming for help😁😁😁🤗🤗🤗
Do you mean a V5?
@SouthernWXMedia yea, all versions can get it tho 🫤
@@WCSOTX Wow, I thought it was just those from 2006-2009.
@SouthernWXMedia I've heard of V2 tuners going out... my V6/ New V5 already died, and my V3 and V5 are the next victims of Midland's crappy parts...
@@WCSOTX Wow, that's really unfortunate. Was your newer V5 from 2010?
I think it was doing transmitter calibration.
Possibly. In that case, this would’ve been about the 3rd (or higher) time I’ve observed that.
That’s eerie, i have a weather radio of my own but bro, that’s scary.
Yeah, it was. I’m glad it didn’t turn out to be bad for me, at least.
@@SouthernWXMedia I can tell!
That’s awesome
Thanks.
Ive been away from my weather office for a week due to school with 8 NWR, and somehow I missed this on KEC80. I’m unsure why ATL transmitters are like this😂😂😂
Wow. Well, stuff like this happens all the time on KEC80, so maybe you can get it sometime. Cool that you’re local, though.
@@SouthernWXMedia Yeah. I’m in gwinnett. I usually get stuff from cleveland and atlanta. WXJ53 and KEC80.
Same for me. That’s really cool!

Yeah, thanks for commenting! Do you plan on posting any videos of your radios? (Also, a few minutes before I typed this, WXJ53 randomly played 1050Hz and then started saying it was off the air, but it almost immediately went back to the current conditions.)
Bro had to say "Signal loss" at the end because KEC80 forgot to turn off kid mode!
Kid mode?

@@SouthernWXMedia hey weather alerts time stamps
@@roob-e3e Sorry, I haven't gotten a chance to add them yet. I will hopefully within a day or two.
On the night of September 7-8, 2021, starting around 10:10 pm and going until after 1:00 am, a group of thunderstorms passed through my area. As it would turn out, these storms generated the most extreme overall lightning show I ever remember witnessing. In the video, I used 3 cameras, some of which have footage from overlapping times, and one of them was also used for some audio recordings. Each recording has an on-screen label identifying the time it started and the camera used. There are also some radios featured; they go off for 3 NOAA Weather Radio alerts and are shown playing audio from the lower AM band to demonstrate spherics (lightning sounds on the radio). The spherics were continuous from the more sensitive of the 2 receivers, which I've hardly ever heard before or since. Unfortunately, there's an error with the on-screen info at 3:16:38, in that a number of words were just cut off at random, so that scrolling text hardly even makes sense. It was supposed to read: "That is all of the video footage I got that night. Next up are some audio-only recordings, including one of that best section of the storm (which I named a Total Barrage)." Timestamps (more will be added when I have time): 0:00 - Intro 2:23:18 - Beginning of the BEST lightning barrage I ever recorded 3:16:38 - Beginning of audio-only recordings (including one highlighting that amazing barrage) [This video is a reupload, to correct an audio issue, but unfortunately, the audio-only recording portion has a lot of distortion. Please stay tuned for a special feature with high-quality versions of those recordings!]

WOAH
Woah! Nice catch!
Thank you!
Glad to see a video with it being demonstrated! Was looking into getting one for myself for my NOAA Receivers for my endecs! Great video!
Thanks, that’s awesome! I haven’t found very many videos on it (at all), so I’m glad to see I’m meeting my goal of making new and helpful resources.
Huge waste for a receive only antenna that is not even tuned for the frequency. Congrats to the seller for getting you to part with your money though.
Not tuned for the frequency but yet it is working for his needs? Doesn't sound like a waste to me
When safety is concerned, especially with something as generalized as NOAA Weather Radio, adequate functionality is extremely important. In cases where the receiver’s location is too far from the transmitter to typically work at all, this antenna does a fantastic, industry-leading job at pulling in weak signals. Receive-only is a property all antennas for the NOAA Weather Band share; it is illegal for anyone except NOAA to transmit on their frequencies. This antenna is tuned perfectly to the NOAA Weather/Public Service Band, actually. J-poles may have some different calculations from most other antennas, using k ow and can’t find any specifics, but it matches perfectly with the lengths given by an online J-pole calculator I found. So, for a piece of equipment like this, the cost is entirely justified. Due to NOAA’s relatively low budget, they can’t maintain enough transmitters to perfectly cover all areas of the country with good signal, so it’s up to the end users to have equipment that’s up to the task of receiving NWR’s signals (especially since signal can never be guaranteed in some places, like deep basements or mountain ranges). Products like this can easily be overpriced, but in this case, especially since it’s truly made to last, it’s definitely worth every penny and the time it takes to set it up.
@@SouthernWXMedia Then splurge 1/10 the $$$ for a proper antenna that will get even better NOAA Weather Radio reception. Do a little studying about how antennas work, befriend an HAM radio operator and get a better antenna for 1/10 the cost. Halfwave J-Pole antenna that is tuned to the NOAA Weather Radio band can be made with 72 inches of wire. Large diameter elements (pipe) is not needed and a waste for receive. That is for handling transmit power. Huge waste for receiving NOAA Weather Radio. Much better antenna for NOAA Weather Radio band can be had for much less money.
@@BudgetStreamers You obviously don't have much understanding of antenna operation. If you didn't you'd understand that he spent way more for less.
@@RazorStrap You don't seem to grasp the idea of that if it works for him, whats the problem? Literally you are making a big stink because someone bought something to use that works for them but you are somehow unhappy. This is a good option for people who does not know much about antennas and such. $50 is not bad for a pre-built antenna that does what it is designed to do. And I do have understanding of antenna operations, but thanks for assuming that I don't. You must be one of them old Ham members that just likes to think he knows all and is better than everyone else.
Actually just caught a hazardous materials warning this morning at around 3AM
So did I, it woke me up with a serious jolt!
Maybe get a camera in that room where the radio is and when you’re sleeping, you will be able to check the time when you heard it and go to that time on the camera, good idea?
I actually do that when I’m expecting the possibility of an alert coming in, but I didn’t think they’d issue anything else at the time. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@SouthernWXMedia Ok! You better get one and make it live 24/7 if you want.
Maybe someday. It’s not feasible for me currently.

Holy shit nice one.

Wow that's awesome
Thanks! They actually did a Hazardous Materials Warning last night around 4:00, which woke me the heck up, but I can’t get a decent recording of it due to KEC80 refusing to repeat it.
@@SouthernWXMedia wow
never seen something like this before...like, ever
Me neither!
This shelter in-place order was issued yesterday (9/29/24), yet NEVER sent over weather radios. Now, to signal that it’s being lifted, an actual Shelter In-Place Warning was tones out. What in the world? Apparently, air contamination is still so bad in some areas that they’re not really inhabitable yet, so that adds to the confusion around this alert. I’m just glad I and my family (living north of the facility, and in the same county where others have reported haze and noxious smells) haven’t had any effects from this thing.
Amazing Capture!
Thank you!
Whoa nice catch
Thanks! I’m just glad it wasn’t a turn for the worse like I thought it might’ve been.
