would the clip of the light not be too close to the joist?

I’m confused! Should the positive wire be connected to positive wire, neg. to neg. a ground to ground. Putting all 4 wires together to me creates a circuit back to the breaker box and not to the outlet(s). Tell me what I’m missing?

You didn't use 6 Guage wire and that screw tightened plug is going a low rates cheap connector not made for long time drawing 7kw continuously. It will catch on fire.
