    Nice. It would be worth your time to do some research on Robert Groslot ,another formidable Belgian pianist, who performed this Concerto under the baton of Katchaturian himself. Phenomenal pianist.

    It is only now that I realize, what for a great unsurpassable virtuoso Louis Pas was. This recording is stunning, combined with the fact that 'Louis' recorded the concertos of Prokofiev 1 & 3 in ONE recording session. Knowing and remembering him: the recording may have been in the (late!) evening of that faithfull day December 10 1969. As Louis Pas was professor at the Royal Music Conservatory in Ghent (Belgium) and besides also tutored at a local Music Academy in 'Ledeberg' (near Ghent).. where students like me.. were in his class. To be 'drilled' in technique, as we did, in his courses. As he did with himself. Great thing is, that I don't miss the musical lines in his playing.. which is missing so oft today, with modern pianists today..Who are more preoccupied with their (sexy) lookings than the MUSIC itself!. 'Big names' today are 'made' by the 'media'. Not by their art. May the current crisis in the media (the self destructive Fake News..) be a way for them to find the REAL talented great musicians.. Wel, I hope so.

    Great performance! Also the orchestra is fantastic! Louis Pas was the Emil Gilels of Western Europe: impeccable technique with a profound debt in expressionist music, and absence of sentimentality. He is today to be counted to the ‘historic’ pianists of the XXthe Century. No doubt on that.

    With all respect for Louis, but a "Diplôme Supérieure" is not a PHD.

    • @1811LisztFranz
      @1811LisztFranz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shalom! According to my humble knowledge, a Diplôme Supérieure in Europe is equal to a PHD in US. All the rest are inside EU (Belgique..) academic implementations; which have little to do with the truly artistic level of this great pianist. I have put 'PHD' as a comparison for the audiences in UK, US and the rest of the world. Thank you. Liechtenstein, Wien (XIX. Bez.)

    • @steinwey
      @steinwey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't, however. The Hoger Diploma was always an artistic degree. When the educational systems in the EU were realigned with the US Bachelor-Master set up, the Hoger Diploma was dropped altogether. I have one too, and it wasn't enough to get into a US university post-master level. In the US there is an "almost-PhD" level degree called "DMA" (for performers; composers can get a PhD). Some universities in the EU offer a PhD that is closer to such a performance degree, but most offer a research-PhD. A PhD is also obtained solely through a university, not through a conservatoire.

    to Remi Engels: the Erard piano is not an over- or outsized piano! In 1878 the concert grand (full size) was about 2.63m. Whereas the 'modern' concert grand is 2.74m.; for your information.

    Peter Ritzen is a brilliant man: even when outrageous, he is fascinating in his unique fusion of profound Catholicism & Sino-American enthusiasm. Let's not forget that he's an even greater composer than performer. - Roger Dickinson-Brown
