I found a 1000ft of cat7 marked down to $40 at micro center a few years ago. Wired my whole house in it. Honestly it was easier to do than the regular connectors for ethernet connects. I have 2.5 gig running to everything in my house lol. Only my pc uses 2.5 everything else only takes 1gig at most. Over kill sure. But i was worried about plasma table and welders in my garage putting out high frequencies while being used being disruptive to the cables running to my pc from my garage

We are 2 CAT generations away from having a thick and unmanageable cable as the first Ethernet cable was!

Umm, you should have mentioned, that Government installations of Ethernet, use T568-A standard because of the, apparently, more reliable transmission, so NO they are not the same, and there is a reason for it that you did not cover.

so do the wires that get punched down into the block conduct into anything? It looks like they just sit there and they don't connect to anything so how would an RJ45 plug in work?

Don’t untwist the wires from the ends only from the middle makes it much easier. It will also let you get the main cable seated further into the jack so it’s not dangling by the small ga wires. If you did this at my work we’d make you redo it

this just makes me soo mad when I think back to my days in IT when I had to lay CAT4 cable in a large building, in every office, in every department, across the alley to telemarketing, all of their offices, and gone through spools, spools, and spools of CAT4 cable, and cut and strip, and clean, and load the plastic clips into the crimper and crimp the retainers on. And if you did it wrong, well you have cut off and redo it. That job was grueling climbing around up in all of the crawlspaces and attics. Hot, tired and sweaty at the end of the day. Half of the problem was getting the pinouts correct on the headers. This was late 90's , so no wifi setups yet. All HARDWIRED.. So when I learned of this little gem, I'm like WHY didn't we do this back in the 90's???? So simple, so clean, so easy, so elegant! I'm old school IT.
