Sid Caesar performing in four different languages
มุมมอง 272K11 ปีที่แล้ว
French: 0:00 - 1:42 German: 1:42 - 2:52 Italian: 2:52 - 4:08 Japanese: 4:08 - 5:10 Bob Hope's televised birthday featured performances from various other celebrities honoring him. This was Sid Caesar's contribution. Air date is unknown.
Caesar was one of the giants of television comedy, who invented it as they went along. The camera and staging tricks were all done live at first, before there was any video recording, except on film. Steve Allen, Ernie Kovacs, Desi Arnaz and some others, along with Caesar, set the patterns that are still used today.
Caesar and Danny Kaye were the masters of this double talk. Their accents and sounds are so much like the actual languages, that native speakers of them would think that they were speaking their languages, but wonder why they couldn't understand a word of what they were saying. I've seen several examples where the people listening to them were completely confused and wondering if they were losing their ability to understand their own native tongues. I wonder if there are any comedians today who can do this?
As an Italian, it sounds like some sort of Italian conversation that I can't totally understand because I'm maybe not focused enough or close enough. The cadence and the rhythm are impressive.
Very Good information
Amazing‼️
Brilliant! Better than Danny Kaye??
I understood everything he said. It’s pretty serious stuff I don’t know why people are laughing? 🤷🏻♀️
He should do an English....
Best bow in the business.
Fill me in, Sid actually spoke real german right? Did he speak any of the other languages or was it just fake :) The japanese was fake but I could not tell with the others.
I think this is the first time I have heard "solid solution" in one of these videos
Rip Sid Caesar. Great comedian. The Japanese part kills me. 😅😂🤣. Lmao
Sid was a genius
is there any footage of his polish and lithuanian and russia. i wonder
🤣🤣🤣👌👏
Simply the most talent entertainer of his type. His fake accents are so believable.
Absolute legend. What a talent
@4:20 that lady is not buying his Japanese, LOL.
I just finished reading an autobiog by Mel Brooks. He has a lot about Caesar All these writers and comedians were great: Brooks, Caesar, Carl Reiner and for all the flaws, Woody Allen
0:27 predicted Timothy Chalamée
It’s 2022, and I’m falling out of my chair laughing. EVERY SECOND of this routine is spectacularly perfect. This goes way beyond “comedy”. There isn’t one word to cover it.
Why would it stop being funny in 2022?
Japanese is the only one that isn't convincing... maybe just because I've watched so many Japanese films/anime!
I’ve lived in Japan for 23 years and could pretty much understand every single word he said on the last bit
The Japanese part is what it's like to watch anime.
It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment Hebrews 9:27 NKJV But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 NKJV Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NKJV Jesus answered, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. John 3:5 NKJV For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14 NKJV He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. John 3:36 NKJV Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7 NKJV For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Hebrews 10:26 NKJV Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Hebrews 10:35-36 NKJV And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14 NKJV
LOVE IT! These Mofo's gimmie chills baby, YEAH!!!!
Best sitcom ever ….
Best sitcom ever …
In 70' a as young teen I did this before seeing Sid, i was told to stop , that It was racist, they had no sense of humor
The Japanese are not even close, sorry to say.
This was 1989: Ooh-La-La--It's Bob Hope's Fun Birthday Spectacular from Paris' Bicentennial. Read more: www.filmreference.com/film/70/Sid-Caesar.html#ixzz7N6LZSw6V
It stops being mildly amusing after 30 secs , same joke x 4 does not make a comedy legend.
Good video! Thanks for posting.
He would make a great language teacher and he would have us laughing as well!!!!!!!
Anyone else here after listening to Mel Brooks's new book?
The French! Charlemagne, Marshal Foch and, then, you hear Bob Hope! I ALWAYS loved him as a kid. Comedy like his or that done by professional double talkers is hilarious to me. I watched a double talker posing as a judge admonish a Defendant in a minor criminal charge with the most hilarious string of legal terminology. The man before the judge would cut his eyes sideways, almost as if he wondered if others found it as melodramatic as it sounded to him, but he remained respectful. Then there are the people who double talk in business or who do political double speak, unaware that it is a "thing," and who think they are getting away with something.

Genius. This is such an unusual skill.
Wonderful days gone by with the great Sid Caesar...Always enjoyed him in the Show of Shows.
Sheer genius...he spoke gibberish with such style and confidence...pity he never starred in movies...
his french sounded good. the german and italian i didn't understand a word!
The Italian was fluent, every gesticulation was clear and in the right context.
For me the real genius of this was in the gestures much more than in the speech. I thought the French was by far the best of them all. I could only wish the editor of the clip let us see more of Caesar and didn’t waste so much footage on reaction shots. We didn’t need to be told how funny it is.
oh those 70s were so good. People were still happy, unstressed, there were problems in the world, but you felt hope that there would be a better tomorrow. The sitcoms were better, the movies, game shows, movies, there was a level of comfort and coziness that the 70s afforded. Families still sat together and watch Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night. We visited my maternal grandparent's a lot - they were exactly like Edith and Archie Bunker to a tee. My dad and my grandfather would drink their coffee, smoke their cigarettes, chit chat, laugh, and I was right there on the sofa taking it all in and loving every precious moment of it. The best times were when there was a roaring blizzard outside, howling winds, ice pellets hitting the windows, and there we were nice and cozy and warm with the fireplace on, in a dim lit family room. It was heaven. My mom's brother uncle Carlos would come by with his wife every Saturday. I loved him a lot too. He was funny and cheered up the room. And when grandpa, my dad, and uncle Carlos going, it made for a nigh of laughs, great conversation, and perfect bliss. He gone noe too. All the people that mattered the most to me are gone. Nothinghas been the same since. I died along with them I think. After the game, a good movie would come on, something like either; 'the Guns of Navaronne', "the French Connection', or. 'Planet of the apes'. Pure bliss. My mom, sister and grandma would be in the kitchen baking cakes and chit-chatting. Who needed a million dollars? We had it all right there. Love, peace and happiness. Oh I so want to go back to that time, they were the happiest days of my life. My grandparent's have been dead for over 20 years, and nothing has ever been the same. I can't even watch those shows, movies anymore as it feels like my heart is being yanked out of me. I just can't seem to get excited about anything anymore. Those days will never come back. This life was too hard for people like me: too sensitive, too emotionally fragile, and the world we live in today leaves me miserable and cold - the bliss of life is gone, and I don't know how to get it back. I am basically living in the 70s, but at the same time I can't watch 70s movies, it's different vibe now. I can't even listen those great 70s tunes anymore as it makes me very depressed.I want the 70s back, but not in the 2021 context because it does not feel the same anymore. How am supposed to deal with the next 30 35 years of my life. In my state of mind, how can I endure this pain the rest of my life? Feel free to share any thoughts that you might have might for me. Any help advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening.
Advice from the 1970s: “You only go around once in life, so you’ve got to grab for all the gusto you can,” and “ Life is a short warm moment, and death is a long cold rest...” Don’t let the CCP virus keep you cooped up inside in a funk- get to a pub, sit down at the bar, wet your whistle, and watch the hockey game. Hell, I’m 65, retired, and live in The Bronx- if I can do it , anyone can...if you go for the gusto. Good luck! Hans in...The Bx, NY.....
Sid Caesar ruled when it came to gibberish. He was a pure comedic genius.
Bob Hope.
He was the absolute master at speaking dialects. A remarkable talent and in addition he was also of genius at sketch comedy. He was a favorite of my dad who remarked that when Sid was out of character and just being interviewed he seemed uncomfortable and would stumble occasionally during speaking. So odd for a man blessed with such performance gifts.
thats so clever and funny!
Sad that SId is gone and just the other day we lost Carl Reiner . . . So sad. So sad. .
go look for lefty noam chomsky the linguist who no speaky anything for years
Brilliant!
