Ive always loved Pi's thoughts on religion. That truth and meaning can be found in many things. In religion. In science. In god. In the self. Its stuck with me since I first watched this film.
First of all a muslim man is not allowed to marry anyone outside the Abrahamic faith so no hindus,no Buddhist,no sikh unless that woman becomes muslim and secondly all children have to be raised muslim.
such kind of rationality/tolerance in the family can only happen in Sanatana Dharma which says, there are many paths that can lead to god unlike other intolerant monolithic religions.....what a truly secular Dharma is Sanatana....

I wish my family was like this. We don’t have to agree on everything what one another does or say but that doesn’t make us love them less. I don’t like the father but I respected his words
Wasn't pakistan created as a state for the muslims of British India? All Indian muslims should be free to move to pakistan, where they can practice their religion freely!
Are they imprisoned in India? no, right? I doubt India has laws restricting Indian Muslims from leaving the country. Not only are they free to practise their religion, they're also free to leave the country anytime they desire.
Pi saying that he wanted to be baptized was showing that he didn't fully understand what his father was saying at the time. His father was explaining that believing in just religion could only take one so far. Earlier in the movie Pi explains that God didn't cure him of polio it was the medicine. Which made his lesson more effective because when you don't feel God's presence at a certain moment in life logic is just as suitable a solution.
Very under-appreciated movie. I love the conversations between Pi and his father. They have their disagreements, but they are both right in their own way and make excellent points. It's a shame we probably won't get a chance to see movies like this being made anymore. Movies really went downhill after 2015 when everything started becoming too politically correct.
It reminds me of me and my father. We may argue, but we would usually also get each other to accept something or see another side that before we would have refused. I wish he gets sober and we can talk again soon.
“All religions are true. I just want to love God.” I don’t know if that quote was in the movie or just the book, but I think it’s really quite a beautiful concept.

Man, I’ve got to watch this movie again. It’s been years, but I remember loving Life of Pi when I was in high school!!!
Yo this scene always makes me cry fr
So basically the dad was a scienologist who wanted to tell his son everything's a coincidence. 😂😂😂
