Lived close to Danvers State Hospital while growing up. As we know these hospitals became overcrowded and many were shut down. Now many folks who have mental health issues are on the streets or in prison. We do need psychiatric hospitals, but of course they have to be run well and with compassion. I don't think this can be achieved in the near future.

I always hated this scene. Even though it showed the influence McMurphy was having on the group, Cheswick was acting like a kid and Nurse Ratched was in the right.

The biggest problem with the mental health profession. Is that people go to get help from these people when they can't cope with todays modern society. So you seek help and whatever they offer. And after treatment they send you back out into a dysfunctional society which gave you the problem in the first place.

This was my experience in a mental hospital. The doctors, nurses, and staff have complete power over you. Especially the doctors. The doctors/nurses/staff that aren’t evil didn’t have the balls to stand up to the evil ones, so the evil ones ruled. It made me realize that goodness is worth nothing if you don’t have the courage of your convictions.

What Cheswick is trying to say here is that he wants HIS cigaretts. . .
