Major Oak root restoration works. Year 2 update. November 2024.
A vital project to carry out root restoration work on one of the UK's most iconic and oldest trees, The Major Oak, has entered it's second year. In November 2024, RSPB staff and volunteers carefully removed the earth above the trees vast root system, adding organic matter from the forest and counteracting the effect of years of soil compaction around the base of the tree.
