Im going to start with 1 or 2 a year. Hold nvidia to 10,000.00. Altria 1000.00 this year, 2000.00 next year. Then buy etfs or reits.

Great video, thx! One comment: the argument of inflation eroding cash is biased b/c inflation is also eroding stocks as much as cash: buy a stock today, sell it one year later, the money you get loses to inflation as much as if you had kept cash, right?

I'm considering transferring my Etrade account to Robinhood because RH offers crypto and I can buy fractional shares. Is this a good idea? I'm not much of a big trader, so I assume it would be good to change.

Includes 1.5% annual and 20% commission on sales. In addition, there is an up front miscellaneous fee of 11%. And although these fees are equivalent to hedge fund management fees, you are managing your own account. And apparently the advertised return are based on a very few pieces that have sold. Who knows how many lose value and are actually never sold! Art is still a very speculative investment. Not that MW is bad. Just do your homework.

Fidelity does have charges. They watch their account like hawks. If you new find a brokerage that won't nail you for free ride violation and all the others especially PDT rule. Once you are labelled PDT that's what you are...need to spread your trade orders accross a couple different brokerages if you actually want to day trade.. It is what it is........keep that in mind. I don't have the 25,000 to cover me from the PST rule. I am close but just not there yet. Other than that I think they are pretty good. I like the ability to set up my trading platforms in multiple ways. If anyone wants to know about PDT rule etc let me know. Cheers to you all and may you get wealthy my dear friends. I told them I would invest a certain amount to start and I found out that anything less than an investment of $5000 to start will put a person on a very long waiting list of around 30,000!

Etrade now sucks. Low interest on sweep accounts and the last time I called it was a 70-minute wait. Options level 2 approval 4 months. Sad but I'm transferring out now.

Etrade has become terrible. Customer service and low sweep interest alone are reasons not to use this firm.

I’ve been an international Fine Art broker, and head of product development of a large fine art publishing company . Trust me be very well informed prior to investing in MASTERWORKS ! There are many fees which you should be aware of. They give you the upfront fee of 1.5% plus 20% of your “ stock “ when sold. It’s not actually a stock,and is no it publicly traded . You must read ALL the fine print . They are an LLC . They have no liability if you lose all. There is also the time it takes to liquidate any given work. All I will say is be aware of ALL the downsides . It is a legitimate company technically speaking - SEC - etc. However I would never let anyone I know invest in art in this manner . It’s volatile to say the least . It’s your call …

What about fidelity vs Webull ?

E-Trade customer service is horrible in 2023. E-Trade lost 6 figures of my money in a deposit, and it took me 3 weeks of daily calls to track down what happened. Even then they were vague, and only said "we sent it back to the point of origin." They would not tell me when or why. This all resulted from an online check deposit which exceeded the daily limit. This could happen to anyone who sells a house and profits, or whatever. Supervisors have avoided talking to me for the entire time, and promised call backs have never occurred. I dont know how Td Ameritrade is, but stay away from E-Trade. Ive been with them since the 90's and the company has gone downhill.

I have personally invested about 5k into MasterWorks but I'm still pretty skeptical of it so I'm waiting to see how they perform over the next few years. I don't think it's a scam at all; in fact I think it's a beautiful business model. But at the end of the day it comes down to the ability of the company to read the modern art market and consistently find value. So I'm skeptical of the fact that it's an aggressive startup that may have bitten off more than it can chew, more than any other reason. Masterworks was founded in 2017 but started to hit it big only recently. Now they have a flood of capital and are buying a ton of artwork, far far far more than what they're actually selling. Their realized returns are impressive at >20% but that's just based on a very small amount of sold paintings, about a dozen or so at the time of writing this. A fair amount of their artwork has been appraised below the expected value [about 100 of the 175 unsold paintings have been appraised]. If you take the appraisal values at face value the unrealized returns [alone without realized gains] come out to be about 10%. For a long-term illiquid investment that's not great, but it's not terrible either, and it's likely to fluctuate heavily as more artwork is appraised. They will rarely be able to 'flip' a piece of art quickly, the average will probably be some 3-5 years so it has some time to appreciate. The vast majority of people are not used to the idea of doing long-term investing beyond their mortgage and 401(k), nor are they used to investing in alternative assets. Giving money to this company not knowing if you'll get a return on it until up to ten years later turns a lot of people off. If you bought a painting that didn't appraise well you're probably going to take a 25-30% loss easily by selling your shares, unless of course you wait it out long-term, hoping for a turnaround.
