PMTS ROCKS! Progression from Tipping to Slalom to GS by Senior Ski Team Coach at Whistler/Blackcomb.
มุมมอง 395ปีที่แล้ว
Sean (my son - videographer) and I were on the slopes of Whistler/Blackcomb on April 14, 2023 videoing. It was a blue bird day with excellent grooming and very few skiers and boarders on the hill. We took the opportunity to create a brief instructional video on tipping and the progression from tipping to short and long turns.

We picked the ideal day (March 7, 2023) for videoing: sunny and clear with excellent grooming on Blackcomb, Whistler. Joy made a cameo appearance on her snow board, including a head stand. And Sean didn't disappoint with an excellent job of videoing on the fly. In less than two hours we had all the clips and photos we needed.

Actually, that is not entirely true, her first passion is playing with her friends. This was her last competition for this season. Thank you for watching.

PMTS Rocks! 75 yrs young skier skis bumps and short radius on Whistler Mtn on May 1, 2019. For slushy snow he finds the Rossignol Hero Elite Short Turn skis the best bet. They are more lively than the full on FIS slalom race ski. The Rossignol Hero Athlete SL FIS Approved is clearly the better ski on hard winter snow conditions.

      Thank you Harald. It’s amazing how PMTS dramatically changed my skiing for the better and continues to give me the tools to self assess that skiing. Although it is becoming increasingly more difficult to keep skiing as the aches and pains pile on due to age, I know that with PMTS I can continue to make small improvements. And it’s those improvements that motivate me to ski 4 to 5 days a week. In short your program and the coaching I received from you, Diana and your other instructors continues to this day to make skiing fun.

    Wow! She did great! Must have had a good teacher. Those shaped skis did the trick for her. This was a great example of how people are right and left footed just like with their hands. In the beginning she hated standing on that right foot and actually leaned uphill instead of downhill which would have rolled the ski over, because she didn't feel the ski would turn, while she had much more confidence on her left foot. Later, she was actually getting better on her right than her left and finally everything balanced out. You just have to concentrate more on that foot that isn't as strong and coordinated. Also notice that her upper body became so quiet that it looked like she was hardly moving to allow her skis to make the turns. She just faced down the hill and stepped from one foot to the other. The reason she became so stable is because of that. Standing up too straight or leaning up the hill throws your balance and momentum off.

      @@billarmatage5858 Bill, my daughter Amaani continues to be obsessed with this video (she just turned 4). I even bought Harb’s “Essentials ~ The Indoor Introduction” yesterday to start working on fundamentals with her. My question: Do you have any firm thoughts on poles for kids at Isabelle’s level or even not nearly as skilled as your grand daughter? Clearly, it seems, she doesn’t use them “correctly,” she drags them. Is there a benefit from a balance perspective to let kids use poles before they actually know how to plant? Maybe keeping her arms at her sides forces turn initiation with her ankle, not the arms up/turn the steering wheel trick you so often see? Maybe she just wants to be like the big kids who have poles (like Amaani keeps begging me for). Is there a ‘correct’ time to let a kid use poles within the PMTS philosophy? Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @billarmatage5858
      @billarmatage5858 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kirnu7 As soon as the child is making snow plow turns with confidence I would give them poles. Just make sure they are not too long. They can use the poles for walking on their skis and it allows them to get use to skiing with them. Dragging the poles as she does helps her to not extend to release her skis from their old edges. Although her hands could be a little higher and forward, she actually positions her hands and forearms guide well while skiing with her poles. Pleased to hear that you are starting to follow PMTS through an examination of their books. Getting and reading the Essentials of Skiing in conjunction with viewing the related videos would be very useful for you and your daughter. Happy skiing, Bill.

    PTMS in no way, Rocks! It is actually one of the most worthless teaching methods I have seen in 54 years of teaching. 0:36 Because of his Heel Thrusting, those skis are merely changing direction, not TURNING at all. They go straight to the right and then they go straight to the left. 0:38 Notice how the tails dig in and the skis are thrust out from under him and down the hill which results in another Heel Thrust to catch his balance. Almost every word printed on the screen was useless gibberish and doesn't describe what is happening in a turn at all. I would love to see how a foot "Tips" when it is in a ski boot. HH describes skiing or the creating of turns, from the feet up which is 100% wrong. Everything is CORRECT ski turns occurs from your eyes down. The new leg angle which is what makes the boot lean over occurs by the positioning of the upper body. Something you will not see in this video because of all the heel thrusting or Flintstone type skiing where you force your skis to change direction. The tips of his skis never created a turn. Stare at the tips as the turns are made. They never pull the front of the ski in the direction of the turn; it is always the tail that is thrust to the side and then the ski just goes straight. He never balanced on the turning ski to allow it to bend and make a turn. Something they were designed to do. That's why they are no longer 1x4s with metal edges screwed onto them. If you look very closely, the tips of the skis are the pivot point that the skis swing back and forth around. That would be like your car making turns by putting the steering mechanism at the rear wheels. Now, let's see if his Followers can tell me where and how I am wrong without Just saying, "You are wrong!"
