When I kiss my dogs, they lick me back. Yes, it is their way of showing affection. There may be other reasons, but to say they aren't "kisses" is ridiculous. I've raised dogs my entire life, even as a child. I understand their behavior.

I've had many dogs in my life, and I knew how wonderful they were, but I didn't really begin to understand the full extent of that until Lucky came into my life in 1991. One evening, when she was about 3 months old, I came home from work with an awful headache. I knew I I needed to sleep it off, but wondered how that was going to happen with a 3-month old puppy around (my husband was working nights at the time). When I got home, I let her outside, and played with her for a few minutes (instead of the usual hour or more). Then, I gathered her food and water bowls and blanket, and took them into the bedroom (of course, Lucky followed). I shut the door, closed the drapes, changed into my pajamas, shut off the light, patted Lucky's head and got into bed. Lucky didn't make a sound. She just curled up with her blanket and fell asleep. I was so amazed that this sweet girl who'd only been in my life for a couple of months instinctively knew exactly what I needed! She was an angel, sent from God!
