Hi Ruby! Thank you for watching my videos! That's a great question. To preface, I'm not sure if my answer applies to all universities or just Boston College. If I'm interpreting your question correctly, you are referring to a clinical rotation that seniors have (either during their fall or spring semester) which we call Synthesis at BC. In Synthesis, each nursing student is paired one-on-one with a nurse. We "work" their - usually 12-hour - shifts and learn to become more independent with our care: by the end of it, students will be responsible for a patient during their clinical, completing most nursing tasks independently! Students can submit multiple preferences for the speciality that they want to work on, but this does not guarantee it by any means because it is also dependent on hospital need. If there aren't enough spots, the students are picked randomly! But, I think as long as you make the most of your experience on the floor, you'll have a fulfilling time :)) I hope that answers your questions!
