Following King Jesus - Week 20 - The King's Soil
มุมมอง 152 หลายเดือนก่อน
Jesus often shared parables to communicate important ideas and truths. This week we kick off a series of parables from Jesus' teaching. There are 4 types of soil which the gospel can be planted in. Which of the soils are you? - - - ABOUT THE SERIES: No person is of more historical importance than Jesus. No name stirs up more controversy than Jesus. No person is more widely known and recognized...

    O.S. 2 Maccabees 1 1The Jews in Jerusalem and those in the land of Judea, To their Jewish kindred in Egypt, Greetings and true peace! 2 May God do good to you, and may he remember his covenant with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, his faithful servants. 3May he give you all a heart to worship him and to do his will with a strong heart and a willing spirit. 4May he open your heart to his law and his commandments, and may he bring peace. 5May he hear your prayers and be reconciled to you, and may he not forsake you in time of evil. 6We are now praying for you here. 7 In the reign of Demetrius, in the one hundred and sixty-ninth year, we Jews wrote to you, in the critical distress that came upon us in those years after Jason and his company revolted from the holy land and the kingdom 8and burned the gate and shed innocent blood. We prayed to the Lord and were heard, and we offered sacrifice and grain-offering, and we lit the lamps and set out the loaves. 9And now see that you keep the festival of booths (always beginning September 29 now, along with the feast day of the Archangels) in the month of Chislev, in the one hundred and eighty-eighth year.* 10 The people of Jerusalem and of Judea and the senate and Judas, To Aristobulus, who is of the family of the anointed priests, teacher of King Ptolemy, and to the Jews in Egypt, Greetings and good health. 11 Having been saved by God out of grave dangers we thank him greatly for taking our side against the king,* 12for he drove out those who fought against the holy city. 13When the leader reached Persia with a force that seemed irresistible, they were cut to pieces in the temple of Nanea by a deception employed by the priests of the goddess* Nanea. 14On the pretext of intending to marry her, Antiochus came to the place together with his Friends, to secure most of its treasures as a dowry. 15When the priests of the temple of Nanea had set out the treasures and Antiochus had come with a few men inside the wall of the sacred precinct, they closed the temple as soon as he entered it. 16Opening a secret door in the ceiling, they threw stones and struck down the leader and his men; they dismembered them and cut off their heads and threw them to the people outside. 17Blessed in every way be our God, who has brought judgement on those who have behaved impiously. 18 Since on the twenty-fifth day of Chislev we shall celebrate the purification of the temple, we thought it necessary to notify you, in order that you also may celebrate the festival of booths and the festival of the fire given when Nehemiah, who built the temple and the altar, offered sacrifices. 19 For when our ancestors were being led captive to Persia, the pious priests of that time took some of the fire of the altar and secretly hid it in the hollow of a dry cistern, where they took such precautions that the place was unknown to anyone. 20But after many years had passed, when it pleased God, Nehemiah, having been commissioned by the king of Persia, sent the descendants of the priests who had hidden the fire to get it. And when they reported to us that they had not found fire but only a thick liquid, he ordered them to dip it out and bring it. 21When the materials for the sacrifices were presented, Nehemiah ordered the priests to sprinkle the liquid on the wood and on the things laid upon it. 22When this had been done and some time had passed, and when the sun, which had been clouded over, shone out, a great fire blazed up, so that all marvelled. 23And while the sacrifice was being consumed, the priests offered prayer-the priests and everyone. Jonathan led, and the rest responded, as did Nehemiah. 24The prayer was to this effect: ‘O Lord, Lord God, Creator of all things, you are awe-inspiring and strong and just and merciful, you alone are king and are kind, 25you alone are bountiful, you alone are just and almighty and eternal. You rescue Israel from every evil; you chose the ancestors and consecrated them. 26Accept this sacrifice on behalf of all your people Israel and preserve your portion and make it holy. 27Gather together our scattered people, set free those who are slaves among the Gentiles, look on those who are rejected and despised, and let the Gentiles know that you are our God. 28Punish those who oppress and are insolent with pride. 29Plant your people in your holy place, as Moses promised.’ 30 Then the priests sang the hymns. 31After the materials of the sacrifice had been consumed, Nehemiah ordered that the liquid that was left should be poured on large stones. 32When this was done, a flame blazed up; but when the light from the altar shone back, it went out. 33When this matter became known, and it was reported to the king of the Persians that, in the place where the exiled priests had hidden the fire, the liquid had appeared with which Nehemiah and his associates had burned the materials of the sacrifice, 34the king investigated the matter, and enclosed the place and made it sacred. 35And with those persons whom the king favoured he exchanged many excellent gifts. 36Nehemiah and his associates called this ‘nephthar’, which means purification, but by most people it is called naphtha.* By word of the GUARDIAN, Voice of Truth, B. Done. 01/01/2024. 23:05 / 11:05. P.M.

    I see 2 Nephi 25:23 used as proof that we believe in a works based salvation. I think this is wrong. If you want to say we believe in a works based salvation it would be better to point to Alma 11 where Amulek discusses the difference between being saved from our sins vs being saved in our sins. But if you call this a works based salvation then you must say the Bible teaches a works based salvation because the Bible teaches we must repent and turn away from sin. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” We all have a responsibility upon accepting Christ to repent and follow him. We cannot truly repent and continue in our sins. This is what Amulek and the Bible teach. Repentance is not what Nephi is talking about when he says “we are saved by Grace, after all we can do.” Before we can understand this passage we need to understand Nephi and his time period. He is of the house of Israel living 600 years before Christ under the law of Moses. The rest of the chapter after that is all about the law of Moses. Vs 24 we keep the law of Moses, and look forward with steadfastness unto Christ, Vs 25 wherefore the law hath become dead unto us, and we are made alive in Christ Vs 27 Wherefore, we speak concerning the law that our children may know the deadness of the law; and they, by knowing the deadness of the law, may look forward unto that life which is in Christ, Vs 28 the right way is to believe in Christ and deny him not; for by denying him ye also deny the prophets and the law Vs 30 inasmuch as it shall be expedient, ye must keep the performances and ordinances of God until the law shall be fulfilled which was given unto Moses. Therefore it is my interpretation that Nephi is saying he and his posterity are saved by Grace after the law of Moses. (The law of Moses is all Nephi can do). He recognizes he is saved by Grace not the law of Moses. I am saved by Jesus’ Grace. He has offered himself a sacrifice for my sin. He has fulfilled the demands of Justice against me for my disobedience. I now want to follow him with my whole heart which includes turning away from all my sin and entering into his covenants which he has restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. It is my desire to follow Jesus that keeps my in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

    But my friend, isn't the Sabbath on a Saturday?

    • @SwerveChurch
      @SwerveChurch ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment! Consider the following verses: One person judges one day to be more important than another day. Someone else judges every day to be the same. Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind. (Romans 14:5} Then he [Jesus] told them, “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” {Mark 2:27-28} Under the Old Covenant, Sabbath was on Saturday and was an obligation for the Jewish people. Under the new covenant we are no longer obligated to keep the Sabbath. However, the principle we can apply in regards to Sabbath is rest. Maintaining a time to rest from work is a great practice. Additionally, as far as which day to worship, the tradition of the earliest followers of Christ was to worship on Sunday, the Lord's day, as that is the day Jesus rose from the grave. For more information, consider reading the following articles: > www.gotquestions.org/Sabbath-keeping.html > www.gotquestions.org/Sabbath-day-rest.html
