Don't drivers typically do 80 m.p.h. on I-10 east of L.A.? I recall seeing a notice of a fundraiser for restoration of a steam locomotive - I believe it was 3751 - in Daylight Hobbies in San Bernardino in 1987 or 88.

A lot of people keep asking why did they get rid of theses crossings in the first place. well, the simple answer is maintenance. You see wigwags Obsolete, they don’t make them anymore ever since they invented the crossing cantilever, which was all alot more reliable due to the flashing lights, a gate arm, and a mechanical bell, which was proven to be a better way of warning when a train was coming. overtime wigwags were starting to become outdated, Railroads began replacing them with newer and safer crossing cantilevers until eventually most of them were gone. There are some wigwags left, but most of them are either abandoned or unused. you can still find wigwags on tourist railroads, but for active railroads is nearly impossible.
