I just turned 80 (!) I was considering selling my low mileage ,(11K miles) because all my friends are dead or quit riding years ago. Then I took a nice long ride on the backroads on a beautiful day and decided, "hell no, I still enjoy my bike and I am going to keep riding it as long as I can.

Good perspective. I just got my first Wing this month, a GL1800. I have 30 years of riding with the largest motorcycle being an 1100 Shadow. It was an eye opening experience riding it for the first time specifically at low speeds. I have over 100 miles on it now and slowly getting more confident with it.

Great stuff. It made sense why Honda didn't notice the fatal camshaft flaw when their R and D time was cut in half. Those V4 recalls and class action lawsuits nearly bankrupted Honda motorcycles, thus staining V4 motorcycle engine and relegating them to a niche subset for bikes. It's really sad too, as V4's may be the best design for a streetbike - if done correctly.

Had an 85 VF700F. I miss that V4 roar and that smooth Honda ride.

Went in to buy a 900 but got the V4 750. They were better handled better and the motors were good. They didn’t sound as good as an inline four.

Went all over Europe with GWCH and GWEF on my 1st bike at age 22, a GL1000 from 76, had it for 15 years them started a family and had no time to ride. Now 16yrs later I bought my 2nd bike a GL1200 Asp from 86 and am just doing trips like 2 to 4 hours on my own. Feeling ZEN when I return to the kids. Hope to have this one for at least 15 yrs. Maybe join GWCH/GWEF again. Drive safe.

I wanted a vf500 so bad in ‘84 when they came out. I didn’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it of and was only a first year bricklayer apprentice. Bottom line I couldn’t get a loan😂 Now I’m turning 65 in a couple of months and I have a garage full of Hondas, one Yamaha and one BMW. My latest acquisition is a 1974 Honda MT250 Elsinore and I still dream of having a vf500.

This Bike doest not threaten Honda Goldwing. Because Quality and HD Goldwing brand can not be beatened by Chinese motobike.

I remember growing up and seeing the 500 interceptor. I looked at that bike like I looked at it like a women. I drolled over it till I was old enough to buy a VFR 750. I was in heaven. I knew I was hooked on motorcycles. After 30 years of riding and over 30 plus bikes, I still ride and have 6 bikes left.

My first bike was a 1985 VF700F. Loved that bike. Was a blast to ride. Could cruise in 5th gear and just roll on the throttle to blast past cars. I would love to get another one if I get the chance again.

My friend bought a new 700cc interceptor, but I bought a new 700cc Nighthawk’S’. In a drag race I won, and once on a high speed run I was right on his tail. But his bike was easier to ride fast because of the much superior low-end torque. However, my new 1987 Honda 600 Hurricane was faster in every sense, technology moved fast in those days.

Personally i would not buy one No dealers near me(not even countrybi think), unproven reliability, new complicated motor, etc But i would surely rent one our for a weekend to check it out

The interceptor was not on top very long. Just a couple years, and boom, Suzuki dropped the GSXR hammer. People couldn’t ditch their interceptors fast enough to get a gixxer!

I couldn't get one as they were too popular and priced over sticker. So I got an 1100F and beat a bunch of Interceptors at the track. But I threw the 1100 off a cliff while doing some spirited riding, so maybe that was false economy! That said, I really liked riding the GS750ES better than either of the Hondas.

I have an 04 Wing. I've had it since 09 I have been all over the country with it, and ride everyday. I will be 83 in December

Have owned a 1984 it was a great bike . Yes I was a member of the Gold wing road riders . The wing has faded away because Harley did a greater job of marketing in the 2000s . I think I could do another wing .

Bought a used VF750F for $2k in ‘92. Rode it from Charleston, SC to Spokane, WA in 4.5 days. What an experience! Loved that bike. It was my first street bike and I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

Just received this on my feed. Great video. You must be Canadian having included Nova Scotia and the Avro Arrow jet fighter in your video. It would have been nice to see the Canadian GW prices in there beside the US ones. I agree on pretty much everything you say in the video with exception to costs. GWs even though they are cheaper than the equivalent Harleys, BMWs and Indians are still costly when purchased brand new. Include the protective clothing, good rated helmet and any upgrades desired and you have one expensive hobby. Thanks from Ontario, Canada.

I bought a VF750 F2 in 1985. Had it for two years with 15,000 miles on it when a taxi cab took me out. Big, fast bike with a remarkably wide power band. Got past the chocolate camshaft issue under warranty and was looking forward to a long relationship with it. Top heavy, and a bit twitchy at the front, with its small front wheel, these problems were sorted with a matched set of Pirelli Phantoms in the biggest sizes that could be physically mounted without fouling. I still miss it.

In 1983 I was stationed in Japan in the military and I bought the Interceptor in the base exchange for $2300. It was and still is my favorite bike. I especially liked the fact that the 90 degree cylinder arrangement meant that there was almost no vibration at any RPM. I loved the handling and sound of the engine. I rode it all over Japan, even in a typhoon in Northern Japan. I liked almost everything about the bike but one thing - when stopped at a stoplight the engine fan would come on and the engine heat was directed right on my body - very uncomfortable.

I would say that the cost factor is not really debunked 2001 and mewer models with 130.00km private sellers go for 9.000eur at least. Sire not a HUGE amount of money, but by far not cheap The newest generation with DCT and Tour package run 25-28.000eur. Thats a 6yr old bike with 30-50.000km But then again, they will keep that value very well

vf 750 had bad cams and bad cam chain tensioners. i did many (100+) cam and tensioners replacement. most mechanics could not meet warranty time or had the skill to do the job.

it isn't a threat - it is now the defacto king. Goldwing got caught with their pants down. as for being the 'best' tourer, the BMW K1600GLT is better. The wing has and will always be the lounge chair of motorcycling. Great bike if you need a nap on the four lane highways. The Great Wall Motor Company has deep pockets and instead of starting at the bottom, they kicked over the entire ant hill and started at the top. They have four models now with the GL, sport tourer, bagger and a cruiser model. The only flaw is that is is made in China and they have no market presence in north america (possibly mexico). With anti-chinese sentiment pre-election it may be a tough road to get them into the country (even her in canada where our pm kowtows to the east) but if they ever roll in - I'd have one in a heartbeat. It would look nice next to my K1600GT. Sometimes the missus wants to come along and wants her own fancy deep cushioned seat. Watch for honda to pop out a boxer 8 themselves in the near future. That will make them a copy cat so they'll have to go to a boxer 10. Oh well, they were on top for awhile (not counting bmw) so maybe it is time for a new king of the hill.

Im looking at an 03 goldwing for 5000 US woth 86k miles im 34 so im kinda starting young on the wing, but hey old fellas got the wisdom, and after 3 combat tours ive learned life is to short to worry about what other people think! Anyways gonna see it this friday and check out the condition. Currently on a NC700x which i really like but its more of a city commuters and id like to cruise the highways of america in comfort. Got this trip i wanna do to calgary from Utah (im from hawaii but work as a pilot in utah) go from here to yellow stone then up into canada, would be hard to pack the wife on the smaller bike

I'm now on my second Gl1000kz 79, the first one I had was bought unseen off EBay. Big mistake! Everything that could go wrong was. A combination of inept and lack of maintenance. I got it back from the brink and learned a lot. I was pestered to sell it and as I was looking at another bike I'd always wanted,sold it. I regretted it and resolved to get another, but only after a proper inspection. That time came around 6 months ago and I found one that hadn't served a term under the sea as a marker bouy anchor. A well set up naked Gl1000 is a very nice thing. European style bars,a smaller diameter master front brake cylinder gives better feel to the brakes and a decent set of rear dampers are a must. A significant weight comes from the stock exhaust system. Most of the mufflers by now have so much internal rust they fall apart. Replacements often weigh significantly less. Can't help feeling Honda would have equalled or beaten the Z900 on the stats that buyers at the time seemed obsessed with IF they had put the Gl on a bit of a diet. But, the Gl1000 isn't about the dragstrip. It's a smooth powerful bike that can go for many miles. By comparison to the 6 cylinder ones the Gl is far less niche,being more of a roadster rather than a bells and whistles grand tourer.
