Go for it! Unfortunately if you purchase a $20 practice chanter, made in Pakistan, from Amazon, it's not any good! Any Bagpipe supply store online can sell you a Sheppard, Mcallum, RG Hardie, Dunbar, Piper’s Choice or Walsh practice chanter for $100 to $120. All good brands. No need to spend more than that on a practice chanter, especially when there's a set of pipes to save up for! Keep in mind the pipes are not in conventional tuning :)

No one has good tone straight away but it will come if you stick with it as long as you have a decent Practice chanter....but unfortunately if you purchase a $20 practice chanter, made in Pakistan, from Amazon, it's not any good! @GetBagpipeReady thank you! I picked this up used and it's a no name BSO (bagpipe shaped object) but it already got me looking at better equipment. Almost ordered a Mccallum practice chanter today. The fact that you mentioned that brand without me asking about it gives me a little more confidence in ordering it.

@ Thanks, will check them out. Having a horrendous time getting my new ezeedrone reeds up and running. Once they lock in, they are steady as a rock and very harmonic. I just cannot get them past the squeal/double tone when I strike them in. Hopefully a few more hours of blowing time will settle them down a bit on start up.

You can pluck the top of the done with your finger to get it out if the squeeling and into the steady tone. Easy to do, but difficult to explain. I really ought to do a video on that simple trick!

@ Thanks. Yes, I have been doing that. The finger pop definitely puts them in the right mode. That bass drone top is a big reach 😀. Will check out your other videos. For my ezeedrone’s, I think I am just going to blow them steady for a week or so to see if they stabilize on start up and fiddle with them a bit. Primarily getting the bridles set right and trying to get them to pitch with my mid-90s Macleod chanter (~471 mhz). I currently have the ezee tuning screws set pretty far out to match that lower pitch and to keep the drone tops from being set too high. Will keep working on it.
