Unboxing the Minisforum GK41 Mini Computer
The Minisforum GK41 is powered by an Intel Celeron J4125 processor which is a Gemini Lake refresh released in Q4 of 2019. It has 4 cores, with a base frequency of 2GHz and a burst frequency of 2.7GHz, which provides a solid base of performance for everyday tasks. The GK41 has 8GB of DDR4 memory, and comes with either a 128GB or 256GB SSD for storage." For ports, there are 4 USB 3.0 type-A ports on the front, along with the power button and an embedded microphone. On the side there is a headphone and mic jack, and a micro-SD card slot. On the back you’ll find two Realtek 1Gb Ethernet ports, 1 HDMI 2.0, 1 DisplayPort (both supporting 4k @ 60Hz), and the power port. The GK41 comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 Pro, so you can deploy this little machine in an Active Directory domain network right out of the box; Windows 11 is also supported, and the Operating System image is available on the GK41 download page. It supports UEFI with secure boot. You can also run other operating system like you favorite flavor of Linux, or as mentioned at the beginning of the video PFSense or OPNSense. The 128GB version is currently priced at $189.90 on Amazon with the 256GB variant at $209.90, but there are often coupons that bring that price down. As of the day this video was released, there is a $31 off coupon for the 256GB model; that brings the price down to $178.90.

    Great video! I'm eyeing a similar build but with the SFP28 board from ASRockRACK and EPYC 4004 CPU once available for purchase.

      I would have preferred the model with SFP28 as well, but it wasn't even announced yet when I purchased the hardware. Also, from announcement to availability seems to take quite a while with AsRock Rack.

    is there any reasons two users cant move from privileged mode to global config mode at the same time. In my case once a user has login and in the config mode, other account users cant login to the config mode again until the first user exit from global config mode.

    We use FS switches in our environment. Every switch has a different UI, and they are configured differently in many aspects. You have to learn every switch. Even when configuring LACP it differs between switches. I struggle to understand why FS does this...

    I have an S5500-48T6SP-R switch. How can I add a management interface so I can connect to the switch on a subnet that all my other switches are on? I tried everything and I cannot connect to the switch once I have it on my network, I can only connect when I have my computer IP manually configured. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Can you tell us when it's better to stack/vs when it's better to have just ring topology? If you're going from MDF to IDF do you want to have separate or stacked switches if you are connecting the MDF to the IDF with fiber? Is there a best-practice here? Also, in looking at the 2 switch stacked config, vs the 3 switch stacked config, it looks like on their pdf walkthrough it shows Switch A & C in their example on the pdf file to be connecting Group 2 of the A to Group 1 of the C, when I set this up, I keep getting "SGNP ERROR: Port 1 received pdu from the same sl group 1." I am using the enhanced mode, but not sure why they are mismatching on the PDF? Thanks for your feedback.

    • @haag897
      @haag897 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, how would you push firmware updates to the switches if they are stacked? If you send it to the single web-gui, does it push to all 3 switches? Is there a way to reboot each individual switch in a stacked config or do you have to do everything from the CLI when you stack? Before the stack, you can run DHCP-client on the switch to let it grab an IP from the dhcp server, but after you create a stacked configuration it only allows static IP addresses? Is this by design or a bug in the software?

    • @jeddarnell-ho6zn

      Did you ever resolve the SGNP Error?

  • @BrownsvilleNotification

    So if you had 4 of these switches around the building and basicallly duplicated your VLAN setup, would you then build your ruleset identical if we were referring to the Guest setup? I mean aside from each switch would be x.2, x.3, x.4, x.5 so your Deny rule would be accordingly to not have access to its interface. I'm sensing a core switch would be best practice based o my question.

  • @BrownsvilleNotification
    @BrownsvilleNotification ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice.

  • @BrownsvilleNotification
    @BrownsvilleNotification ปีที่แล้ว

    Great explanation. I do have a question, setting this up with the L2+ features, how could this incorported into a network where you have a router/firewall and basically a flat network. I have been tasked with fixing network performance and my direction is to have either a core or aggregation switch and then have switches such as these plug into those switches but I am a bit confused since our DHCP is setup through Active Directory and everythnig just routes through the firewall. Again we have a flat network that out of control. So your 'Transit" Vlan will basically be your trunk port for all vlans? Awesome video.

    • @francismori7
      @francismori7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use your L3 switch as gateway and route internet traffic from the L3 switch to the firewall. Firewall needs to route all traffic to the L3 switch

      Yeah, I hear you. In this price range you aren’t going to get that. This switch is right around $1,600 so virtual stacking is what you’re going to get. I can say I’ve been very pleased with it.

    I purchased a S3900-24F4S-R as a distribution switch for a bunch of small properties on our campus at a fiber hub location. It's fed with 10gLR 10km optics and is distributing 1g circuits to each small building. The cli was different but not terrible, could not get aaa working for ssh over radius however.

    • @CustomMicro
      @CustomMicro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting! We've purchased a couple different models of FS switches and they all seem a little different when it comes to the GUI and CLI. However, we do not have a current need for AAA with SSH over Radius, so we haven't had any issues like that.
