The Production Potters Stretch Pull
มุมมอง 4127 ปีที่แล้ว
Somethings I try to do while I'm making this pull; use lots of water, coordinate my wheel speed with my hand speed, my hand should be moving a lot slower than the wheel speed, using my back to raise my arms, I lock my arms into position and then raise my arms with my back, Use the smallest surface area I can find on both inside and outside fingers to minimize drag & keep going don't pause.
How to Easily Open Your Clay Using Your Elbow on the Potter's Wheel

Centering with the elbow reduces a tremendous amount of strain on the elbow, wrist and fingers. This technique takes just a little time to master and is worth the effort of changing up your routine.

Throwing a Low-Bowl or Platter Using a Stick
มุมมอง 14K9 ปีที่แล้ว
I learned this trick from Natalie Jetter, of Elegance in Clay Pottery. Be careful to not add too much water right before spreading with the stick, if you do the bowl will form a bunch of splits near the lip and collapse after a few minutes. Its very important to form a groove in the bottom corner and to keep the lower end of the stick in that groove while spreading out the bowl. Good luck!! : )...

    Wow this is very impressive. You must have really steady hands. I struggle when I have to have my whole arm in a pot to pull up to keep stability. Do you have any advice or tips?

    This project looks like fun to serve food in and I like how it looks but both a big PITA to wash and then to store. My solution for such commissions is to do the regular platter bowl, creating a low 1/2" rim collar the diameter of the dip bowl bottom to sit in , in the center. Way easier to safely ship in, too! Best regards and thanks for all your tips videos!👍🏽

    I am SO trying this tomorrow. Can I ask about how much clay you used? I'm guessing around 8-9 pounds? Just out of curiousity, what clay body?

    • @berneemartin4383
      @berneemartin4383 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he mentioned that he used half a bag - so about 12 pounds.

  • @williec6334

    You have great throwing skills. At the early stages you move the clay up differently than I have seen before, This is when the clay is thicker. You seem to pause midway through your pull than do a collaring technique which finishes the pull and also moves a lot of clay. Its hard to see exactly what your left hand is doing or how it is positioned but it sure is effective, Would love to see a different camera angle and have you describe what you are doing, But I do appreciate what you have given us. You have obviously been doing this awhile as evidenced by your expertise. Thanks

    Using Laguna's "Rod's Bod" clay, which stretches nicely but does not like torque so, these tall & skinny vases are a bit of a challenge with this clay, fun to throw though.

    This jump to the opposite side is better when done one leg at a time. Not that you hop one get it over, then hop the other, but rather your legs should jump the near leg firstthen the other and they should both land one behind the other almost in unison but not quite. Makes the jump stronger and less likely to get caught in guard.
