FIRST RIDE On My NEW HORSE!
Have you ever wondered what the first ride on a new horse might look like? Maybe you just bought an OTTB or you have a new horse you're working with. Join me for one of my first rides on my new OTTB (off the track thoroughbred) horse, Diamond! He's a 16.2hh, 8yo gelding who raced in Canada when he was younger, I've had him for a few months now, and I've been prioritizing riding him 2-3x a week. He hasn't been worked in a while and I haven't consistently ridden horses since about 4 years ago. We both have extensive previous training (not together though). We are both getting back into horseback riding and training together so we are focusing on finding a good feel/connection with each other. We work on a lot of walk/trot transitions and I love encouraging him to stretch down in his gates! Thanks for joining us in our riding journey together!

  • @TheSilverlady1980
    @TheSilverlady1980 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I thought about this issue could a flexible silicone lift be made to keep the tail slightly up from the anus? The anus needs air to dry and stay healthy. Also the stool should be free to push outward without the tail blocking its exit. Silicone is very light and flexible. If it went around the tail with wings that sit against her but cheeks giving a bit of lift could make a huge difference. Did vet say the broken bone was in good position and would heal and still function with flex after it’s healed?

    • @AlmaVidaHorseRanch

      That's an interesting thought! She has been improving slightly since I made this video. We're still unsure if she will regain full range of motion but we're keeping a close eye on her. I think she's also almost due for a re-check to see if there's any bone fragments floating around.

    There was a time, when horses, worked every day, hours at a time, when shoes were a net benefit. I have left my two horses barefoot, the last few years. The only time they have shoes is for a short period when I am elk hunting in the mountains. The rest of the time they are ridden barefoot, including on some rocky terrain. Yes, their feet chip out, at times, but they still grow hoof wall fast enough to need trimming, or rasping. I think a large number of horses would get by without shoes, just fine.

      @@AlmaVidaHorseRanch I have not. The biggest reason I put shoes on to elk hunt is to have tungsten studs in the shoes. It can be icy and steep. If I rode in the mountains, during the summer, I'd likely try it barefoot. I have TWHs and almost never put shoes on their hind feet. Last fall I elk hunted with their hind feet unshod. They did fine. I could tell they had better traction on their front feet, thou.
