Videos about horse life for compassionate horse people! I love sharing the joy of horses with others. I run an equine assisted learning program for kids and youth on the horse farm. I'm also in school to become a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. My channel is all about showing you what life on the horse farm is like, how we can partner with horses to improve our mental health, and how to take the best care of horses as possible. My goal with this channel is to inspire the curious horse owner to question traditional horse keeping beliefs and start to wonder about what the other possibilities are. I also help answer questions that the casual equestrian or curious bystander might be wondering when it comes to horse therapy and owning horses.

FIRST RIDE On My NEW HORSE!
Have you ever wondered what the first ride on a new horse might look like? Maybe you just bought an OTTB or you have a new horse you're working with. Join me for one of my first rides on my new OTTB (off the track thoroughbred) horse, Diamond! He's a 16.2hh, 8yo gelding who raced in Canada when he was younger, I've had him for a few months now, and I've been prioritizing riding him 2-3x a week. He hasn't been worked in a while and I haven't consistently ridden horses since about 4 years ago. We both have extensive previous training (not together though). We are both getting back into horseback riding and training together so we are focusing on finding a good feel/connection with each other. We work on a lot of walk/trot transitions and I love encouraging him to stretch down in his gates! Thanks for joining us in our riding journey together!

My NEW HORSE FIRST RIDE IS BEAUTIFUL.
Why do you not wear English style clothes when riding 😊
@@PA-ek3ul sometimes I do but I wasn’t planning on riding this day and I didn’t want to change my whole outfit lol
@AlmaVidaHorseRanch looking good as usual anyway 👍
You’re so quiet and that so it just makes it more harder for us to hear it even though your voice is the mic
try turning the volume up on your device
Such gorgeous equines!
Really liked this insight that you shared especially as someone with autism and living with my own horses. ☺️
@@MelanieTheEquestrian thank you so much! Tell me more about your horses!
@ I have a Canadian Warmblood that is 18 years old and three miniature horses who all have Cushing disease. I do English riding with Solo, and training two of my minis to pull a cart and am going to start training my other mini in horsemanship.
This was a very nice meeting video that you did. Thank you for sharing.
@@MelanieTheEquestrian thanks for watching!
My favorite is Diamond he seems so playful!
@@rolandm-yw6ojhe’s pretty cool
Have yall ever seen this before with a horse??
Omg the best thing ever I do the same thing I fell so free ❤
Makes sense
Amen. I have two hard keepers. Alfalfa is a life saver. And a good senior diet. I have found the following feeds to be very good: Tribute Kalm and Easy, Triple Crown Senior, Hallway Fiber Energy. All excellent. Mixing them has been wonderful. Cool Calories weight gain powder also helps.
I’m glad you found what works for your seniors! ❤
Wow I learned so much thank you
What do you feed your horse? Let me know below ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Triple Crown Senior mixed with Tribute Kalm and Easy and 1/4 alfalfa pellets. My very hard keepers OTTBs look fabulous. Also, high quality hay (timothy/ orchard, orchard, timothy, or timothy alfalfa.
Maybe she needs some glasses 🤓
Made me cry but thank you for what you do ❤❤❤
Nice, is Ora a mule?
@@paulg3012 yes she is :)

@@sallymay3643 thank you so much 🙏
❤God bless ❤❤❤them both
So sweet.
😊 🐎🐎
I didn’t realize putting them the opposite of the field makes such a big difference. That’s very interesting.
I didn’t even think of it either until my friend shared with me the difference it made with her herd! Such an easy positive change to make ❤
Call vet schools should have some knowledge about this
I thought about this issue could a flexible silicone lift be made to keep the tail slightly up from the anus? The anus needs air to dry and stay healthy. Also the stool should be free to push outward without the tail blocking its exit. Silicone is very light and flexible. If it went around the tail with wings that sit against her but cheeks giving a bit of lift could make a huge difference. Did vet say the broken bone was in good position and would heal and still function with flex after it’s healed?
That's an interesting thought! She has been improving slightly since I made this video. We're still unsure if she will regain full range of motion but we're keeping a close eye on her. I think she's also almost due for a re-check to see if there's any bone fragments floating around.
Peace in abundance!
What a pretty chestnuttt 💕
Amen!💕
I think it was actually made for a walk but yeah it does!
Ok but why are mules honestly better tempered then horses but like no one uses them 😭
Mules are amazing!
Aw I love mules ❤
Me too! ❤
Probably got her injury in a mare fight, they can get very nasty.. We had two mares fight once and one cut a hole in others private parts , they backed up on eachother kicking out it was scary breaking them up as legs was flying everywhere.
Wow that’s scary! I hope your mares are ok now! ❤
@@AlmaVidaHorseRanch Oh, yea their fine now this happened a couple of years ago. The one that got her private parts cut had 30 stitches and is all healed with no permanent damage. Don't know why they fighted, as been together for years and was best of friends..
I am praying everything goes well. Thank you for sharing this video with us hose lovers!
@@annburchard6199 absolutely! Thank you 🙏
Put a bandage on it. Silly. LMAO. fracture is not broken or crushed crushed would be worse than broken, I bet the vet did nothing there is nothing they can do. My guess is she was kicked. She might have bene kicked while laying down as well.
@@trickedouttech321 if you take a look at the X ray again, the bone looks pretty well crushed, it’s not a clean cut fracture. She was put on anti inflammatory medication and Vitiman e. That’s a good guess about the kick, we’ll never know 🤷♀️
Oh poor sweet girl ❤️🩹
@@sustainablybalancedequine5357 thankfully she is already showing signs of improvement 🙏✨🩷
My thoughts and prayers that she will heal and do good in the future.

Hi
@@laura00771 hey
Excellent discussion to be having. All my horse are barefoot in the Colorado mountains and do fantastic. Can’t wait to see Diamonds progression.
@@TheTouchofaMustang thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely make update videos
Actually they are, horse shoes are pretty bad on their tendons and cause their heal to lift up when they move. :3
@@annaliseandeverest4920 I agree! Did you see my most recent video where we pulled my horses shoes off and transitioned him to barefoot?
There was a time, when horses, worked every day, hours at a time, when shoes were a net benefit. I have left my two horses barefoot, the last few years. The only time they have shoes is for a short period when I am elk hunting in the mountains. The rest of the time they are ridden barefoot, including on some rocky terrain. Yes, their feet chip out, at times, but they still grow hoof wall fast enough to need trimming, or rasping. I think a large number of horses would get by without shoes, just fine.
Have you ever used hoof boots in the mountains? I agree that many horses would get by just fine without shoes.
@@AlmaVidaHorseRanch I have not. The biggest reason I put shoes on to elk hunt is to have tungsten studs in the shoes. It can be icy and steep. If I rode in the mountains, during the summer, I'd likely try it barefoot. I have TWHs and almost never put shoes on their hind feet. Last fall I elk hunted with their hind feet unshod. They did fine. I could tell they had better traction on their front feet, thou.
I shod myself too.
