Earlier this week, while sorting through boxes of old CDs, I found a DVD of a concert I performed with my good friends Roger Schmidt and Carter Lancaster. It was from more years ago than I care to admit. We called ourselves "Fellowship of the Strings." Here is a video of me performing my tune "Beaver Crossing."

cool Thanks I will practice :o)
Thank you for your tutorial, much appreciated.
Thank you, some chord mysteries explained very clearly. Very informative!
You're very welcome!
Im not sure maybe something do do with “Home” or something like “going home” im not sure
A Place in the Heart
Very Nice! - sounds like "Jesters Reprieve" perhaps.
Wretched Willy
Firstly: a very nice melody and of course; played well. A title? It's difficult to be so presumptious but: 'Dawn of hope'. or 'Holding on in hope'. I'm certain you can do better but there's a melancholic but thoughtful and positive feel to the tune.
Thank you for your kind words!
Thanks, Shawn. This is super helpful. You are a great teacher! I have subscribed. :)
Thanks. I've watched dozens of guitar players try to explain triads, but you are the only one so far who has made it understandable and usable. I will continue to follow you for sure.
Great video. Making me reconsider if I really need an in person instructor.
Thanks. Very clear explanation.
This tip is very helpful when using steel strings. One a nylon string guitar with a low action (common in flamenco) the f chord is a lot easier to play using your index finger on all the strings. I want to clarify that I meant it's easier to play it that way than it is on steel strings, not that it is easier to play with it flat instead of slightly arched.
i'm just a hack lower intermediate but the F was a major breakthrough for me and i jammed the side of my index finger into the position you show but i think i'm getting all the strings ringing. it helped me learn and play the E and A shaped bar chords. the problem i have is flattening the ring finger to play three strings to do an Amaj shaped chord. do you have advice for that, thnx.
I don't play my a shape Barre chords with one finger on three strings, personally. I use my middle, ring and pinky to play the a shape. But it may be because I play with a wide neck, so I have enough room that it makes doing so easier. I have tried flattening my ring finger out, and it doesn't work for me. Everyone's internal hand structure is slightly different, so techniques that work for some are almost impossible (if not painful, or potentially harmful) for others.
@@nvdawahyaify that's how i play it also but sometimes i just sub an A7 if it sounds ok to me because it's easier for me. thnx for the advice.
Wow- you work fast! It is a cool process to watch. Even more wonderful when those tracks arrive in my inbox! Thanks!!!!
Useful until you need to hammer on the shifted E maj component and can't because you've not learned a full barre.
That is a funky Beaver!
Sound good, but a little different without the background accompaniment. How do you do that? Are there any tabs for that as well?
There is a second video "Play the chords for Ted's Tune" where I go over how to do it. The chords are also on the download.
Great info, very useful video. I hope your channel starts getting some real traction... you deserve it!
Butterfly Flutter By
Very nice. Reminiscent of the style of Michael Hedges.
what model guitar are you playing ?
It's a Martin OMC-16WE.
Such a cool tune - please come up with more !!! Too good
Very nice, Thank you sir I appreciate it.
Amazing explanation! Cannot wait until tonight when I can try to finally get the F chord!
Thank you, have fun with the F chord!
This has been very helpful since I’m taking lessons
Awesome, glad to hear that!
Thank you
You're welcome, hope it helps!
I find tying my shoes confusing
You described my level of skill and situation perfectly. I'll be sure to give these some practice. Thanks
Glad it helped!
As soon as I watched this, I went over to watch a Ted video. The song wasn't on the one I clicked on. I was so ready to hear it!
That would be awesome if you can get some bands to let you come out and play this just before they come out. Just walk up, play it and run off stage.
Ha, I could be known as the "Mysterious Masked Guitar Player!"
Love the blue Gretsch
Thanks!
That was pretty cool about not pressing all of those strings down. Omg. How have i never considered that?
Hope it helps!!
Nicely explained and illustrated. 🎼
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Thanks Sean. Ted's intro is a sweet one!
Glad you like it
@@MusicWithShawn Sorry Shawn for the spelling mistake on your name...😔✌
@@nicolen.9642 Ha, no problem at all. It happens lots!🎸🎸🎸
This has become one of the most iconic pieces of music on TH-cam.....Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Barred chords aren't a problem for me, but getting my middle, ring, and pinkie fingers together like that for the B chord sucks.
Yes, it can be a total drag getting those fingers to do that form! I'm going to do a video soon about the full-on barre chord versions. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant little lesson, can’t stop playing it.Earned my subscription
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice beginner's intro. Especially the emphasis on comfort and relaxation. I kind of wanted you to relate the two chords more closely to the "5 chords you must know" as a basis. The B isn't just an arbitrary set of finger locations -- it's simply the familiar A chord raised two half-steps. That's clear from the shape when you look, but thinking of the musical relation kind of gives it a reason to be. Then you can point out that F is... hey look, it's the same old E chord, just raised one half-step. And oh my gosh, if we were to take the identical shape and go two more frets up, what would we have? A whole nother way to play a G! Suddenly it all starts making sense. Well, to me, anyway.
Absolutely! I'll be going over those details in a later video when I demonstrate the full/barre chord versions. Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks. You are very clear, and have a real pleasant manner.
Thank you!
Great job Shawn. I've heard this opening 100s of times and now, thanks to you, I can play it!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Ive been playin this the past few years cuz i love it
Awesome!
Thanks Shawn, that’s great!
You bet!
Beautiful song! Great channel!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Shawn. I have just about got the 3rd bar under my fingers. I was going to ask could you do a tutorial on the Chords. Take care Mark Uk Liverpool
Awesome! I was a little bummed there wasn't a playthrough! Easy enough to figure out but would have been a nice touch. Thank you Shawn.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool! We get the whole enchilada!
Thanks!
I am blown away by how well these tutorials are done. The top down view was so cool. One thing a lot of tutorials get wrong is not showing everything, leaving the viewer trying to fill in the blanks. This is doubly hard with something like this. I know you've been teaching a long time but is this your first YT channel? If so...wow. I put down my guitar many years ago...I did try and pick it up a few years back but found it really difficult to get back into. Now I have a reason to try again.
Thank you for your kind words! Yes, this is my first TH-cam Channel and I've been teaching for about 35 years. Keep at it! I try to post a new guitar vid each Friday.
It’s called La Pompe
Indeed it is!
@@MusicWithShawn I’m enjoying measures 6/7,both understanding the fingering and working to achieve the smoothness and clarity you demonstrate in the recording!
@@jameslifetimelearner Awesome, enjoy!
I don't suppose you have a bass line for it?
No bass, sorry. It would be easy enough to do with roots and 5ths!
