They did my boy Ironwood dirty. For those who don't know, the reason he turned on everyone is mostly due to his semblance, "mettle" which strengthens his resolve so he can hyper-focus on completing the task at hand/following through with his plan. In other words, his goal was to protect the relic at all costs. If it weren't for his semblance making him hyper-focused on that alone, he would have likely helped the civilians escape/diverted some resources to their protection. But alas, his semblance caused him to have an unwavering resolve to protect the relics, even if that meant betraying the only allies he had left. Which sucks, because it removed any complex character development he could have had which led to that moment, but nah, it was challed up to "semblance make him go bad"

Oh keep in mind we aren’t told his semblance in the show but like a podcast or some other outside force, so to someone who only watches the show, it makes Ironwood look even more stupid

Weirdly it fits since at first ironwood was someone great and was a hope to make a plan to survive against Salem, till Salem broke him and everyone became his enemy

His semblance was the problem not him
Ironwood still needed to think, reason, and plan his semblance just turned everything up to 12 in a situation that was already an 11. Mettle is infinite will power and that is a crazy power for anyone to have. Will power can let you carry a wounded buddy 10 miles to the extraction point; it can let you stand back up after being beaten down multiple times; can let you act in desperate situations when others will be frozen by fear or indecision. But it does not make you wise, infallible, or immune to bad decisions just lets you keep moving forward even if it's on the wrong path.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one joking about how similar Ironwood and Jayce were. Good vid. Man Ironwood got done dirty in Volume 8. Felt like the writers self-sabotaged a good character or just lucked into making him likeable in Volume 7.

I am always glad to see a tribute that reflects on General Ironwood. This song fits him perfectly, he was a man who was bent till he broke just as Salem knew he would. In the end he did see everyone who didn't follow his path as his enemy leading to the undoing of Atlas and Mantle.
Agreed I felt sorry for him at the end of volume7 but at the end of volume8 I was just so done with this idiot mixed with a sense of old tired anger.
Poor Ironwood, The members of Team RWBY were the real villains here. THE FALL OF THESE KINGDOMS WAS THEIR FAULT. GREAT VIDEO!!!🥰❤

They didn't tell Ironwood the truth about the lamp nor Salem, Yang and Blake leaked government secrets to a terrorist they barely know (considering Blake's history of terrorism, I still don't understand why she did it in the first place. Robyn could have been hiding ulterior and sinister motives just like Adam for all Blake knew.) Ruby leaks information over an open channel to Jaune, and their plan to stay behind and aid Mantle didn't make much sense. Vale and Mistral are very weak due to the chaos caused in the previous volumes, and even if they choose to lend aid, it takes time to mobilize those troops. By the time they reach Atlas, it would have fallen. Salem is also immortal, has an army of grimm at her side, and explicitly wants to gain the relics and maiden. Why stay and fight to lose a battle that will give the enemy everything they want? Ironwood's plan was a bit heartless as leaving thousands of civilians to be massacred by grimm is horrendous, but it's the only real and least terrible option they have logically. There was no correct answer here, and RT should've kept the moral conflict between the two plans instead of making black and white as they did in the show. I will also say that it was Winter who suggested martial law, the thing that you think justifies calling Ironwood a "fascist." People call RWBY villains because they do not even attempt to compromise with Ironwood. When he explains his frustration with their lies, they jump the gun and betray him when they realize he doesn't wholeheartedly agree with their philosophies or plan. I am completely fine with Ironwood being a villain since it was foreshadowed by his Tinman motif and his general paranoia. It's just that RT did it in such a sloppy way that just ruined most of the potential it could have had. He suddenly became cartoonishly evil and started shooting people left and right and wanted to nuke the city he had tried hard to protect for months.
