It was a good night. And a good idea - but WHY only one night? And why a Thursday? I know of many people who hadn't even heard it was happening (lack of advertising, perhaps?) or who couldn't go because it was on a weekday evening. A great opportunity missed - all that work for one night, when one additional night might well have brought hundreds more people flocking into the city!

A wonderful lady who I first met in 1990 when I got a job with Worcester City Council. She was the secretary of the King George V Pavilion management committee. I can see her now, pen in hand, taking the minutes of the regular meetings. Her commitment to the Brickfields community was an inspiration to so many of us. Her presence at the meetings brought out the very best in the people who worked with her - council workers, council members and local residents alike. Of course, she and her husband had been promoting the Brickfields Park for many years before I knew her perhaps even from before I was born. It was always a struggle to get resources for the park. There was constant pressure on limited funds available for community development. The pavilion was in dire need of refurbishment. She kept seeing new community centres being built around the City yet she never got angry or frustrated. She always treated me and my council colleagues with such kindness. Eventually, the people of Brickfields did get their new pavilion and, today, the park has some excellent facilities. When I retired in 2006, Biddy actually came to my leaving ‘do’. That meant so much to me. Bless her.

I remember Pratley's in the late 80s, with the plates and dishes piled so high with narrow walkways and the oriental rugs, taxidermy, furniture piled high and antiques at the back and of course the ancient staff.
