Happy Christmas Betty!! Well done for finishing your mum's jumper. You'll have to let us know if it fits. Can I please ask what is the red cardigan you are wearing today? It is really nice, is it one you made or is it a store bought? If you made it, do you recall the pattern? Also, I don't suppose you know how much ease it has? Sorry for all the questions, I'm planning 2025 and you've influenced me 😊
It’s a bought one from Emmy, a Swedish company. Think it was called the ice skating cardigan ❤️
About 30 years ago I bought from Shetland a woolly board. I think that's what it is called. It's a wooden frame used for blocking jumpers in sheltland and works a treat. It's not solid wood so has really good airflow. I don't know if they are still available.
Ahh yes someone else suggested one of these to me! I shall have to investigate!
Happy Christmas. I've knit my mum a jumper too. Let's hope they both fit. Your cardigan is beautiful already and it's not finished yet. X
Have you finished it for your mum? 🤪 not going to lie, I’m not going to get the berries done in time 🤣
@@knittingwithbettyI have. Although the cabling went a bit wrong on one sleeve. She'll never notice. Your mum's jumper looks just as nice without the berries. X
Oh, my, it is almost finished!! Looking good so far 👍
So close! Just blocking it now so I can see the berries on 🙌🏻
that is absolutely amazing!!! im working on a baby blankie using granny squares (crocheting) i can't imagine how long that has taken!! wow!! you are so skilled!!
I can’t take all the credit, it’s an amazing pattern by Hanne Rimmen 💕 have loved knitting it!
With your project for your mum did you measure the 40 inches around the full bust or underarms? If you measured full bust it will be too big in shoulders and neck
Ohhhh should I have measured around the fullest part ie the shoulders and arms too? The pattern did say for just measurement knit this size but 🤷🏻♀️. I’ve pulled it back by taking some sts out when I added the neck ribbing and tried it on the mothership and it’s perfect now ❤️. Just not used to knitting modern patterns and in DK lol
@@knittingwithbetty I don't know, I don't knit modern patterns either! Blind leading the blind haha!! It sounds like you've figured it out 😄
Can you get the right weight for your bulky project by combining two DK yarns? The cat in the alpaca farm is so cute!! We have an alpaca farm about an hour away, I want to bring my cat there now 😅
That is such a good idea to double up! 🤯 Oh you should deff go to an alpaca farm it’s great fun 💕🦙
Good to see you in the pink-- back in your pink room---after Covid! It was interesting that the alpaca yarn was sent to Italy then back to the UK. Alpaca kisses how sweet!
I was so paranoid it was going to spit on me I didn’t enjoy the kisses lol, but they were very sweet! It was so interesting to find out about the processes of getting from animal to yarn! I guess it makes sense that it would have to be sent abroad as the UK industry was geared towards wool production. I believe Italy is known for its fine Cashmere production so perfect for softer fibres like Alpaca 💕
Hi Betty so nice to see You again! I missed You a lot and honestly for the last 2 weeks I was checking everyday if you posted a new episode:) The croshe blanket looks beautiful. I am sure when you finish it it will give You lost of joy! I wish I could croshe so definitely I would like to make such a masterpiece as well. Good luck with your project and can t wait to see your next post! Love Aneta
So lovely of you to say 💕. You should give crochet a go if you’re a knitter, I’m many ways it’s easier/quicker to get a finished item once you’ve mastered the basics. TH-cam is great for tutorials and basic stitches. I wouldn’t start with the gingerbread blanket though as it’s quite complicated! Maybe something more simple like a granny square ❤️
Covid brain is a real thing. Folks underestimate the after effects! Glad you're feeling better. Beautiful lavender basket weave knit💚💛💚
It really is! Thanks 🤞🏻 I have enough yarn to complete it lol
I love the jumper you are wearing, it's so beautifull!! I wish I could make something like that. I'm glad you are feeling better after having the dreaded covid. I have had it twice and it's a horrible bug. I am never as Ill as my husband tho, I thought he wasn't going to make it the first time he got it. The sound is so much better on your video today, Thank you 😘
My jumper is from Next if you’re UK based? I almost bought the matching dog jumper for my dog lol but thought *no* I don’t need a £20 jumper for my dog 🤣 and I have 4 dogs so it would be £80 for them to hate wearing them 🤣
I'm glad you're feeling better. I've had Covid twice and I agree, it's not nice. My mum asked for a hand knit aran jumper for Christmas. I chose a pattern with cabling only on the sleeves to ensure I got it finished in time. With your mum's jumper why don't you knit the neckband now rather than at the end. It will be easier than holding the weight of the whole jumper and you can also see how it looks.
That’s a great idea. I tried it on my mum and it fits over the bust but is mahoosive at the neck lol so I’m going to have to do some magic to bring it in so it keeps her neck warm! 🤣
Yes I’m joining in with the gingerbread crochet along,I’m really enjoying it so far.Really happy to have received my Susan Crawford book that had been on pre order,I am gearing up to knit something from it but my knitting colourwork skills are still fairly new.Thankyou so much for your podcast, new subscriber here and really enjoyed it .
Welcome!! And yayyyy glad you’re enjoying the Sirdar CAL, I am too! Although already a little behind! Hopefully Susan’s videos will help with your colourwork, no need to feel apprehensive at all as she is great at explaining things and her patterns are easy to follow xxx
Oh, I hope you finish this. Do you recall what pattern this is?
I *think* I have the pattern in a folder somewhere but I know it’s on an old computer……..just not sure which lol. Either way the pattern is fairly simple so I should be able to work out vaguely how to finish it 👍🏻😊
Another fun episode!
Thanks lovely xxx
I just got up to the section where you talked about working for Susan Crawford. Congratulations, that must have been so exciting for you!
Very exciting indeed 🤗
Omg, I saw a moth sitting on my newly knit jumper the other day. It's been in time out in the freezer since then. I know I have some moths in my wardrobe because I use the sticky pheromone traps that kill the males. I keep all my knitwear in plastic tub and hope for the best!! I think the change to warmer weather has brought them out in full force. We have huge mosquitos so we have three large blue lamps with electric grills which zap insects. It gets a lot of moths as well. One is on our deck on a timer to and in the morning the native birds get a BBQ meal! No chemicals in the house, but in summer when we get blowflies it occasionally smells like fried fly 🤢
Oh my!!! Fried flies 🤣 just reminds me of garibaldi biscuits lol. I’m sure you have some much scarier bugs too, or are they more up north?
@@knittingwithbetty well there are the terrifying hairy spiders that set themselves up outside to eat the moths that are attracted by the lamp... But then those are eaten by the equally terrifying giant wasps and the cute and cuddly looking geckos.
I make impulse purchases too. It's inevitable with TH-cam and Instagram. It's not our fault. I'm joining in with the Susan Crawford KAL, making the Marina gloves. New yarn purchased from the Knitting and Stitching show yesterday. Just got to cake it up. I've not knit gloves with fingers before. X
Haha I’m the queen of being a spend thrift then making lavish impulse buys! 🤦🏻♀️ ooo u love Marina so can’t wait to see your version 💕
Wonderful update! I also love Bendigo Wool. I've also signed up for the SC KAL - how exciting! I'm bringing along my cloudbusting wip.
Ooooo I’d love to see your Cloud Busting. I’ve already seen someone do it in a green colour way rather than blue and it was beautiful! What colours are you doing?
Hi Betty please could you put the microphone a bit lower down, the sound seems off, maybe it's a bit too much bass and muffled yet loud. Sometimes it sounds like your eating it and when you move around and catch it or knock it makes some horrid noises, it's dreadful wearing headphones on anyway. Please don't take offence I love your channel and look forward to new videos but it is putting me off but I haven't wanted to say for fear of it sounding rude. Thank you x
I’m on it! Actually invested in some proper mics that weren’t cheap and cheerful so 🤞🏻 next video should be much better
Hello, Betty, so excited for you to be working with the 👑 Queen of Vintage Knitting herself!!! What a dream job!🥰 Oh, I made the Sirdar Coronation Blanket too but still have some ends to work in and finishing to do. I bought a kit with the original colours. I don't think I've seen anyone else do the red, white and royal blue. I like how you did the border in purple and gilt/gold instead of the frost blue and cream. Of course, I mean the ones I saw on Ravelry. LOL. You know, I❤Ravelry. It is great to see what other colours or mods other crocheters/knitters make. Take care and take some time to rest between all your KALs and CALs
Finish it! It's beautiful. That's enough to finish the bodice and the do little cap sleeves at least.
🤞🏻 there is enough yarn!
Yes it's very pretty 😍
When River Cottage was on the tv when it first came out I watched it with my dad from the very first episode.
It’s gentle tv isn’t it! ❤️
i also do vintage patterns on Esty and it really takes longer than a lot of people realise and my youtube has also fallen off the job list
It’s blummin exhausting Etsy isn’t it lol, what’s your shop and I’ll give it a follow ❤️
Another fun video! The rosehips syrup sounds so delightful! Lots of gorgeous knots and plans. Your puppies are adorable!!!
Well I’m biased but yes my doggos are adorable 🤣👍🏻 they were even more so as squidgy little puppies 😭. I deff recommend rosehip syrup as it’s delicious (especially with vodka 🤪)
A lovely catch up! I love the guest appearance by your gorgeous horse! Love the Halloween sweater! ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Hi Betty! Nice to catch up with your latest episode 👍 That vintage knitting machine you scored sounds rather speccy for the price. What a great deal! And lucky you for finding that yarn!! I really love your skeletons jumper and will need to consider making one for myself. I'm quite tall so hopefully wouldn't run into the same issue with the yoke depth. Circular yokes seem really fiddly.
I think I only got the weird yoke depth because I didn't get gauge and was too lazy to keep swatching lol. Lesson learned! But also I think I am 'petite' in stature so perhaps the pattern writer writes for normal sized people? I don't know lol, but highlights the importance of gauge swatches!
@@knittingwithbetty I am thinking with yoke, maybe there is a way to look at the pattern and figure out how many rows the motif will be as well? Bit of extra work though.
@@petramanos the pattern has a super clear chart so if you get gauge you should be able to work it out 👍🏻 would love to see you knit it ❤
Gosh as you were talking about what you eat for breakfast, I was horrified !! I'm not kidding!! You are eating a horrifying amount of neurotoxin like almonds, green or black tea, chia seeds, raspberries, potatoes, lemon peel and any excess vitamin C the liver will convert to neurotoxin. This is what kidney stone are made of and can cause all sorts of health issues. They build up over time and the kidneys are only capable of getting rid of or processing a certain amount of these neurotoxins without damaging themselves, hence the build up. These neurotoxins also like to link up with calcium which can cause osteopenia and osteoporosis. The neurotoxin is called Oxalate. You need to be aware of what foods contain high levels of Oxalate and keep the level down. Rhubarb is also high in these neurotoxins. I would love to shop your Etsy shop but don't have a link or follow you on Instagram. Please leave links in your TH-cam description. 😊
Hello! Oh I wouldn't worry, I don't have that particular breakfast that often so I'm sure it won't harm me. My Etsy shop is Sitting Pretty Knits: www.etsy.com/shop/SittingPrettyKnits?ref=dashboard-header if that link doesn't work then there should be a link in my profile page <3
Do you have a recipe for the rosehip syrup? I tried making rosehip tea once (it tasted okay) but removing the sharp hairs from each 'hip was laborious
Just happened across your channel this evening and knitted along to your podcast - I love it! Your dogs are so cute, as is the beautiful sweater. I've been tempted by the Bird and Blend Cosy Collection of teas. It contains the apple bobbing tea as well as other autumnal flavours; good to hear a good review of the tea!
Welcome!! Hope you liked the video and it's great to have you here :). I used the River Cottage recipe for rosehip syrup www.rivercottage.net/recipes/rosehip-syrup buuuuuut I rarely follow recipes to the letter lol. I didn't strain over a muslin as I found that stripped out all the good stuff and made it thin and watery. So I used a sieve to pass the hips through and get the hairs/pips out. Takes a bit of effort but worth it! I also didn't bother chopping them up as the recipe says, I just boiled em up and mashed them with a potato masher to get them to break up (once boiled they become softer). Finally my last rule break was to simmer them for more like an hour, the recipe says 15 mins which didn't really soften the hips up as I'd like so I kept simmering until they were nice and mushy. Good luck! It's worth the effort as it's a lovely treat on a grey winters morning!
Hello Betty, happy sweater season!! 🧶❤Sounds like someone has been a busy bee. Hope your mum is doing better. Your doggies are so adorable and I'm sure they enjoyed their birthday cake.🎂 I have the Tyrolean book but haven't knitted anything yet. I was a little disappointed that 3 of the patterns were also in other vintage knitting books. However, I love the history bit, all the pics, how-to embroidery and how to design one with a peplum. Looking forward to seeing how your Tyrolean jacket turns out. I think Linda Ivell is working on another book. I know you are super busy but you should really try Ravelry again. I don't mean to be a broken record but I looked up your skeleton sweater. There are almost 100 knitters working on it. I'm sure you could ask about your sweater problems there and find lots of good advice. Good luck with machine knitting. Of course, there are groups for that on Ravelry too. LOL Take care❤
Oh gosh yes I had forgotten Ravelry! I am in the process of learning it lol as I will need to for my job so I promise I am on it...............just slowly! But I will go into the pattern on Ravelry and see if anyone else had my problem and how they fixed it, thanks for the tip! That's what's so great about the vintage community - they share all their hints and tips <3
I thought it was pretty easy. What kind of yarn did you use?
I used a 4ply hand-dyed yarn from Skeinhawk yarns ❤️. I’d love to know what yarn you used! And which colour? Isn’t it a great pattern!
Whatever she is wearing it is really nice . I would wear that outfit .
It looks wonderfully warm!
