PRINTMAKING AT CSU STANISLAUS
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ก.ค. 2020
Welcome to the channel! My name is Marty Azevedo. I am an artist and educator whose studio practice is grounded in the printmaking medium. I am an Associate Professor of Printmaking at California State University Stanislaus.
I made these printmaking instructional videos out of necessity during the COVID-19 Pandemic. They have been useful for my teaching practice and I hope that they are useful for anyone trying to learn these processes or as tools for other printmaking instructors.

Walking through color layer of CMYK layers in the screenprint process. I am using a homemade vacuum table and registration pins from takach press. The video shows Magenta, Yellow, and black layers. The cyan portion of the printing is missing (forgot to film that portion) Print layers should be Magenta-Yellow-Cyan-Black (key)
CMYK Color Seperations for Screenprinting in Photoshop

A quick rundown of creating CMYK transparencies in photoshop. These transparencies would be used for CMYK Screenprinting. This guide is for a 230 Thread Per inch Screen I came to the numbers for pixels per inch using the calculations below Lines Per Inch (frequency) =1/4 of Threads Per Inch 230 (TPI) Screen divided by 4 =57.5 rounding up to 60 as Frequency Pixels Per Inch=2 times the Lines Per ...

Great post - thank you!
It would be a lot easier with proper tools rather than those speed ball things that should be banned by law
Useful video but is the “music” specially designed to torture the viewer? It’s unbearable. I’m sure they’d love to use it to torture prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, not that I believe in torturing either prisoners or TH-cam viewers. You don’t need music, especially not this kind. Can you edit it out?
I’m following 🙏🏽
Thank you, this kind of practical mark making video I really needed to see. The music is too loud so just watched you in silent mode with text. Very helpful!
Very informative ~ thanks
Great video. thank you
Thanks!
Hello, how do you clean an old leather roller that’s been in regular use for a few years? I used a cake icing spreader and carefully removed all the old ink but now what?
Hi, typically you would apply mutton tallow to the roller and cover it with plastic for a day or two, scrape again, and continue to reapply and scrape until the leather softens up again. Here is another video from the person who taught me Litho going over the process. th-cam.com/video/T2ZsfFBNlag/w-d-xo.html
how does it work? does the sharpie is oil / has fat in it? does the result looks the same is the black layer?
Can I use aluminum from a hardware store? What guage/size should I use? Is there something special about what you use?
Hi Peter. The plates used in this video have been purchased from Takach Press. The plates are "grained" to mimic the surface of a piece of limestone. Aluminum at a hardware store wouldn't have that grainy surface
@@printmakingatcsustanislaus7759 Thank you very much. I saw something about ball ground aluminum. That must be it.
Great video! I have a question about the phosphoric acid you are using. My acid is 85% pure. Will this work and should I use the same proportion to gum arabic as you used??
Thanks! That phosphoric and same proportion to gum arabic should work
Where can you buy or how do you make the red iron oxide sheet?
This is very useful!
Thank you so much... I could not figure out how to change cutters before I saw your video
Thanks for your detailed videos. Will any aluminum sheet or only from an art store be suitable for this printing technique?
plates with a tooth on the surface can be used - some people make their own - you have to experiment some times
Get rid of the music! It's annoying and makes it hard to hear you.
These videos are wayyy underrated. This is how the TH-cams SHOULD be. Thanks for sharing with the world!
Glad you like them!
Voodoo Lithography
Hey did the plate roll up video ever get uploaded?
th-cam.com/video/NmOHP_vKmrI/w-d-xo.html Hi Bryson, I think this is the video you are looking for above.
such pleasant voice! thank you!
Thanks
thank you! a great video!
Glad you liked it!
Thanx for this helpfull video. I want to try this! What mixture is exactly border gum?
Glad you like it! the border gum is a combination of all our discarded etches, so the mixture has a healthy ratio of nitric to gum arabic. I couldn't say exactly what that ratio is though.
@@printmakingatcsustanislaus7759 Thank's for your answer! I already tried, but it didn't work out. The old image partially took up some ink. What could be the problem?
Nice!!
Greedo!
Thanks for these step by step litho videos.
Glad you like them!
Great aluminum litho plate demo
Doesn't seem as complicated as it sounds, lol. Can't wait to attempt this!
Great video! Music is a little loud though, competes with your voice.
Ok thanks! I will update and upload again. Thanks for the feedback
