よくやったっ!
My great uncle just had us look this up on christmas eve... he was in drum corp for YEARS, and even after all this time picked himself out on the field. We got to hear stories from his 20s we've never heard before. Thank you so much for posting this slice of history!!!
Even by today's standards, that spin move they do at 1:50 is sick!
My name is John Cornwell
I always love the Hawthorne cavallaros, from the very first time that I saw them in person was in 1956. I never thought I would be competing against them, but in 1964, through 1968, I was a member of the Long Island sunrises. Always hit much respect, for the Hawthorne Caballeros. Today's date is August 19th 2022
I swear this video will get more view :')

You're not the only
Thank you for sharing this video. Is there a roster for each year - history/yearbook site maybe? Looking for years my uncle would have marched, Jon Torgeson.
WOW!
And 20 years later they were undefeated world champions
That was literally amazing. Mind blower: we are twice as many years away from the 75’ championship year as this was.
At 6:23 notice what appears to be french horns of the Leedy Ludwig make . Best f notes without the double buzz that plaged Getzens 7 yrs later. Better lead pipe design and appearance as well . Had one .
You mentioned French horn in your comment, I believe Saint Vincent's Cadets with a first Corps, from Bayonne New Jersey to use French horn? Today is May 30th 2023. There is a senior Corps competition, it might be a bit older than this clip not sure? Do not remember the name of the clip that was posted
私もこのメンバーの中でハーモニカを吹いていました。
Wonderful! Takes me back to those happy days. Thanks for the memories.
So far, this is the oldest drum corps or marching band field show I can find on TH-cam
Cadets were the oldest 1934. Sadly they are no longer. . . . .Scouts 1938 . . . . seems like there is a Senior Corps out there, may be a little older.
Didn't they use single valve bugles at that time?
Will Gayner you can see the valve in some of the close-up shots. Single piston G/D bugles I believe.
totally worth listening to just for the tone of what a field bass drum should sound like, so funky, especially right at the end marching off,
was ricky wong in this drum line ?
Showmanship , General effect obviously made these boys crowd favorites
Great performance. I have always loved the Cabs!
I started in 1960 - I'd never seen this type of show and really appreciate that you posted this.
It's because that's how course marched in the fifties and earlier, and I would be very early 50s
I wonder if any of these Scouts marched in the 2006 Alumni Reunion Project (50 years later)… the guys who wore the vintage uniforms carrying the colors
Is this part of a video collection or something? If it is, where can I get it
These guys were fantastic. I'd love to own a recording of their contests/performances.
Move at 1:50 was then called the "Scatter Drill" by Madison. I think in the East it was called "Doing a Hakensack."
noticed the conn french horns. felt sorry for the kids, especially the french horns and baritones. swinging the arm.....NEVER using both hands on the bugle. even though the musicianship was lacking, they had a distinct brilliance in their sound. enjoyed.
...yes! That move at 1:50 was no doubt called "To The Winds"...Anaheim Scouts circa 1963 marched a similar drill...We were "Anaheim" because of Racine and Madison!!!
I have watched Madison for over 20 years, and I have to admit, there was a lot of impressive drill in this show ! It is rather obvious how far back modern drill designers go back for ideas !
Awesome to watch such history. Proud to be a Scout today on the 75th anniversary.
Very nice drill
Amazing -- never thought i would see this again. Thanks so much for what you are doing.
