Bruce made a choice, same choice he makes in the movies. He sacrificed his happiness for gotham. He chose to leave Selina, knowing what it would do to her because he needed to become something more. I like that in a way, Gotham uses the Nolan version of Batman, which means the ending of Dark Knight Rises could be the gotham ending as well.
