@aussie76 When loading .3903 Brit you have to make sure that the top round in the mag has the case rim in front of the round below it. Otherwise it will not feed as it trys to push the second round forward with it and jams.
You geting rimlock.load each round with the rims head of the other.
Yes, rim locked. I have since learned. Thank You for watching and posting comment.
My Lee was refurbed in Maltby after the war. It too shoots a bit high and the magazine does not number match but all other numbers that are on the rifle do.
Hello Donald, thanks for sharing your experiences.
What is it that you are adjusting at the front of the barrel, is it the thread protector?
It's a barrel thread protector. It loosens after each shot. I prefer shooting with the protector in place but it''s not required. I've now placed thread locker on it.
What caliber does it shoot cuz that recoil is looking like 45 or 10mm
It's 45ACP
Dan the Man!! You're the best gun expert I follow! Keep up all the great work
Thanks darb.
The problem is the people put the mag in and slam it home. Over 80 years of this will cause the mag to seat deeper due to tabs being bent. Get it set up, leave the mag in and load it from the top and you will never again have an issue. My No 4 mk 1 from 1942 has never had a single misfeed in 25 yrs after being adjusted...
Hello Dennis, Valuable feedback. Thank You for sharing. I've learned from listening to all of you how the mag should be used. I was ignorant before.
Definitely enjoyed! I shot my old phone. The busted battery stunk so bad that I left it out in the woods for a week. 😂
How many takes did you do to make hits every time? I was expecting at least one or 2 misses 😅
Hello Shiny Knife. I was already warmed up with this pistol. Shot a couple hundred rounds at the various targets on the range. Was having so much fun, chose to make a video.
@ Good shooting Dan
there is no doubt that the Lee Enfield 30.3 was and is one of greatest battle riles ever made with an incredibly long service life
Only if you point it in the right direction!.😏
.303 British is one of the most famous calibers in the world, and yes, even in the U.S. Anyone with any knowledge of history would have heard about it. The Lee Enfield is probably the fastest bolt action in the world. You indeed shouldn't baby it. Be purposeful and it will be 100% reliable. Note that round-nose bullets might not feed as well as spitzers. As to recoil, maybe it is your position or the way you hold it. I shoot the No5, which is lighter and has much more recoil than the No4, and I can shoot 30 to 40 rounds before it starts bothering me. I also reload with PPU brass and Hornady 174gr .312 RNSP bullet, 40gr of Vihtavuori N540. Fine rifle you got there! Well, except for the magazine. Feeding should be flawless. Find a real one, there are plenty around. You don't have to take the rifle off your shoulder to reload... Search for videos on "Lee Enfield mad minute."
Thank You for posting all this information.
You are using the Battle sight, which is sighted in at 200 yds. You are shooting at a target, which is 160 yds. So naturally, you would be shooting high.
Awesome as usual
Thank You for tuning in and leaving a comment.
When younger I was in the air training corps in the UK and shot this rifle. Had my berret on my right shoulder and ended up with an impression of the a ATC badge on my shoulder.
The battle sight I, believe is calibrated for 300 yards with the original mk7 .303 millitary round , the reason you can't cycle the magazine is u loading it wrong , they are rimmed cartridges so u getting rim lock, u need to ensure that the rounds are stepped forwards so the top cartridge has its rim in front of the round beneaths rim ! , also not designed to detach magazine uses a stripper clip , holds 10 rounds so 2 clips of 5 , also arranged so rims don't lock up .
Adjust to where you are not leaning so far forward . Trust me it helps.
Hello Stuart, thank you for this comment.
When the barrels were made they were tested and the best shooters were taken to Holland and Holland who built sniper rifles with them. Generally all were reasonably accurate.
All kidding aside i own 4 ruger #1s a 22hornet 2 25-06s and a 458 wm. Fine guns they mske a great collection
Larry, thanks for posting. Glad others have a love for the #1.
My father used this during his national service days ! They also used Bren & Owen machine guns !! Circa early 1950s Australian army!!
Dude, i bet you smoke a BOATLOAD of weed 😂
Nice shootin! Looks like you're gripping teacup style. No flinching or jerking at 12:45 which is very good.
Scopes don’t belong a beautiful #1. Says me anyway!
Agreed. As I rewatch this video, the scope is an ugly attachment.
As said by others, the magazine was not meant to be removed but fed by a 5 round stripper clip. Also, being a rimmed case the rounds have to be set in a specific pattern in the clip, otherwise the rounds will jam when trying to load into the chamber. Look it up. I’m in the UK but I guess there will be plenty of .303 commercial or ex military ammo available in the US.
I had this rifle in the late 80's in Canada, I used it for hunting deer, it was an amory rifle that had never been issued to troops so it had very few rounds through it when I got, it. I bought it from a friend for $75 (those were the days!). At 100 yards on the 300-yard peep sight, I'd aim about a foot low and I got a number of deer with it. Rock solid dependable good shooting rifle. The only negative it was HEAVY to lug around, but I still loved it, it was much more affordable to own than many of my buddy's other "Hunting" rifles. We had only the non-detachable mag 5-round version in Canada. Cheers
Thanks for sharing your use of the rifle. Best part of reading other's comments is learning about their experiences.
What are you shooting a 45 or 357 ?
Great shooting and great video! As a Canadian and Lee Enfield owner, I might have a suggestion for you. The difficulty you had cycling/feeding rounds into battery at first was probably a result of you removing the magazine for loading rounds. The rifle was actually designed to accept clips of 5 rounds (2 of them for 10) loaded from the top. The magazine, while removable, was really only meant to do so for cleaning and maintenance or other reasons. Because of the rimmed .303 cartridge, loading them improperly stacked in the magazine can result in minor jams, especially if the magazine is removed and slapped into the rifle for the rock'n'roll. This action can disturb the organisation of the rounds and cause the issue. Magazines were heavy and required much more precious steel to produce, so Commonwealth troopers weren't running around with 10 or more in their kit. They typically carried their ammunition in clips and loaded them the same way as their contemporary adversaries. And we love the .303 up here. While a bit outdated by modern standards, it's still plenty accurate and packs enough horsepower to put down anything from coyote to elk and bison. Newfoundlanders have been killing Swamp Donkeys (moose) with this baby for over a century.
You are destroying the springs
Putting too many rounds in
You TALK TOO MUCH..HELLO.👋👋👋👋
Gorgeous rifle
It's a classic, no doubt. My father gave it to me as a teenager for hunts in Wyoming. Being from Indiana, where centerfire rifles are not allowed for hunting, it was a quick appreciation. After arriving one year for a hunt in Wyoming and the scope was off, I decided to go with peep sights. It was an instant win for appeal and functionality.
I have had three of these over the years they all cycled smooth as butter Never seen one as clunky as yours
❤I have one too, and I plan on using 200gr. Cast to deer hunt with. Cast is very gentle with barrels . These are wonderful old rifles and I enjoyed your video very much. Thank you!
That's great to hear you will be using it for deer hunting. Thanks for sharing.
I liked your video.....forcing a mag inside a gun is never a good idea, keeps too much tension on everything....best to leave the slide open insert the mag then close the slide....as for the jams with hollow points i am not surprised one bit.......that happens sometimes with 1911's they were designed for ball ammo and since these are clones of service guns they are finicky with anything but FMJ....i have Sistemas Argentine 1911 in 45 ACP made in 1953 and it hates hollow points.....but loves FMJ what is was designed to shoot....just an observation.....
160 yrds. Wish I could see clear at 60 yrds.....lol. good job
I was a tank commander and was issued a colt 1911 A1 in 45 apc with a black leather shoulder holster. Have no idea where the 9mm came from.
In '60's used these at school in the Cadet Corp. The magazine is never taken out except to clean. Loading it while in the rifle is much easier. Might be able to source some 5 round stripper clips too. Cycling the action, hold bolt ball between thumb and fore finger, knuckles up like a fist and ride in one motion smoothly against the tension. Like you are instinctively doing at the end of the vid. Gets better with practice and very fast.
I just picked one up Tuesday of this week! Looking forward to hitting the range. Its been about 23 years since my previous FN MkIII Hi Power…. That I had to do to it, what just comes standard with the SA-35. As in disconnect the mag safety, and install the Cylinder & Slide shop “No Bite” commander style hammer…. A Hi Power spur type hammer eats the web of my hand! Same with a G.I. 1911 ( thank goodness for beaver tail grip safetys.)
good shooting and a good group at 160 yards. Ist it a two or five groove barrel ?
I have to agree with @Libertytree257 very good info, have a look at the s/number on the bottom of the mag and see if it is the same as the rifle and they often part company with the right gun, If you are going to talk toe the camera foe as long as you did with ten rond in the mag and the weight of the rifle you are already tired before you shoot, looks a good rifle. I have to ask why a strange range of 160 yards?
Hello Nova, thanks for the comment. The 60 yard range is my pistol range shown in this video. I have a rifle range but it's setup for shooting from a bench. I didn't want to shoot this rifle from the bench.
Try an old stock mag and it will be perfect function. The after market ones have that problem
Thank you for this feedback. I think the mag works well. It's more about user training. I thought since I've shot many bolt actions, I knew how to operate this one but that was a mistake. Nothing better than learning a new firearm and walking away a better and more respectful shooter.
Some excellent groupings, especially the hollowpoints
You have no business doing gun reviews. Your shooting grip and recoil control sucks.
I like the plastic grips. Wood is nice, but plastic means that I don't have to worry about messing them up. Plus, they are thinner and give great purchase (grip). Which is why the military went with them. They are very particular, you know?
"Iron sights", inmy military service they were "battle sights" (close range 250yds) the fold down with the vernier adjustment allowed greater accuracy when you had more time. You could load 10 but the norm was 5 with one in the chamber (in the hopes that after 5 shots the enemy would think your out and raise up enough for a kill.) You should be able to do 6 in 10secs and still hit the body.
It never fails to amaze me that people continue to put up 'review' videos of firearms that they clearly know very little about. An element of research before the camera starts rolling wouldn't go amiss.
Hello James, your statement does fit. I created the video to show appreciation for the firearm and its accuracy, not as an expert on the rifle.
Mine is very accurate have got about 2k rounds through it. It broke the extractor replaced it with a after market one.. my only complaint is the thumb safety is mushy. Comes off safety to easy.
Polish the feed ramp!!
Do you know what rim jam is and what causes it? Try “bloke on the range” for explanation.
Is the bolt assembly numbers the same as the rifle , as not the right mag is the main reason you're having problems, I have fired the SMLE many times never had a miss fire, you should be using stripper clips, and not removing the mag it might help
