Box bellows.mpg
The box bellows deliver a large air flow at a good pressure which makes them very useful for providing the air to a charcoal furnace or a small forge.
These japanese style?? box bellows were made according to the steps shown here www.twinoaksforge.com/BLADSMITHING/BOX%20BELLOWS.HTM and here www.anvilfire.com/bookrev/kapp/oriental_box_bellows.htm , but i did not follow the exact measurements specified on the websites.

Clay crucible
มุมมอง 268K14 ปีที่แล้ว
This video gives a basic understanding of simple clay crucible. Grog = a refractory material that is in a solid state and does not bind together when water is added to it. Already fired fireclay can be used as grog, after being ground to the right size Disclaimer: use the information given in the video at your own risk
Silver refining
มุมมอง 319K14 ปีที่แล้ว
A micro-scale experiment explaining some principles related to the refining process of silver. Some Questions and answers: -Why use such a small container? =Because the larger the container the more solution of silver nitrate is required, which means that more of your silver is trapped in there. -What are those small spots on your skin? =As you can imagine, it is due to silver nitrate splashes ...
Hammering out a silver sheet
มุมมอง 7K15 ปีที่แล้ว
-started from a 2mm thick silver sheet ingot that i cast using the mold in my 'pouring silver sheet ingot' video, finished by flatteninng it to a thickness of approx. 0.3mm -it took about 1 hour and 20minutes to get the hammering and filming done -there are a few annealing steps which are not filmed. annealing is done by heating the metal in a coal fire until almost red hot. basically i need to...

Old casting project - The Angel
มุมมอง 3.7K16 ปีที่แล้ว
A casting attempt I did two years ago. I used the green sand casting method. I prepared green sand by sifting normal construction sand through a fine screen, later mixing it with powdered pottery clay and water. Didn't mix by ratio, only by consistency. For melting copper I used a gas pipe, made of steel. Problems occured with that as I managed to melt it twice because of the high temperatures ...

    Made a crucible of clay today :) I have a lot of dry clay outside my house I smash it up with a hammer until its very fine then mix some water until its like workable, shaped it into a crucible and waited a day to dry. I then fired it in my charcoal furnace. :) works!!! thanks!

    +fedaikn is there a reason why you use rechargeable batteries instead of normal batteries? Would this work with normal batteries?

    • @fedaikn
      @fedaikn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Autumn Burtram well...you can use normal batteries, but what do you do when they are empty? in fact you should use other power sources, like a PC power supply. youtube has some videos on that theme. use whatever you can find as long as the voltage does not exceed 3.5V

  • @lvd2001

    Just wondering - Can the crucibles be reinforced with some metal wire insert while being made ? Will that be internal stronger and can have more strength?

    • @fedaikn
      @fedaikn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Liem Duong the wire is most likely going to crack the crucible open because it will expand when hot, far more than the ceramic material.

    • @lvd2001
      @lvd2001 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I should have watched your vitdeo. I had a crucible - after melting Alum - I removed it from the oven and let the metal cooled in the crucible - I cracked 4 - crucibles after a few burns. Thanks for the information - I will follow your method and use the cracked crucibles to make the new ones. Thank Ypu so much for your posting

    +fedaikn hello nice video there, can I get some help here, I need Silver Nitrate for my project, as its not cheap I thought of making some my self now as I understand making it with pure 999 silver nothing complicated but I have lots of spare 925 silver so before making silver nitrate I need to purify my 925 silver first using all method in this video? I just did't get the last part were do I get that silver sheet from?

    • @fedaikn
      @fedaikn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Laiptiniu Remontas it is very simple. digest some of your 925 silver with nitric acid. then cement the silver out with copper metal. wash the cemented silver well , just like in my video. now you have cemented silver that is almost pure (maybe 990). you can redissolve this silver in nitric acid to make silver nitrate for your project. if you need it very pure than just recristalize this silver nitrate solution like here /watch?v=uVA0rK_VITY i made the silver sheet from the washed cemented silver. just melted , poured an ingot and rolled it out. it was pure enough for my purpose.
