Plum the Sphinx Cat on the set of Katsura
I am going to fry under all those layers (worth it)
Good awesome
lol, can't imagine wearing this as an everyday thing
Then it's not for you.
@@PaprikaGirl_JP I mean back when kimono's were an everyday wear, would've been such a hassle to put that on everyday.
@@GameFuMaster In this day and age, it's acceptable to run around in tank tops, flip flops and shorts. But at the time this was the main type of garment, tank tops and shorts would have been considered underwear, even in the west. It has only been since the proliferation of cheap pret-a-porte fashion that people take no care to their appearance, and choose the casual and quick over the well-kempt. But isn't it nice when you see a lady dressed up in a beautiful outfit, with her makeup and hair done? Isn't it inspiring to see a man dressed well, looking like a million dollars, clean and cool? It takes time to look nice. It makes the environment around that good-looking person look even classier and better, just to have him be there. So the question is ultimately this - a person can choose the quick and the sloppy, or they can choose the time-taking but classy. Both are acceptable, but how they make both the wearer and the atmosphere change makes all the difference.
@@PaprikaGirl_JP well sure, but I mean that's like saying everyday we have to eat like Christmas, instead of eating like Christmas when only during festivities.
That's a lot of layers for a kimono.
it’s just the right amount of layers for a kimono.
Look like Human parcels himself 😅
I want to go to Japan for my 15 year marriage anniversary!
So elegant ❤
I never actually realized that the back of an obi was actually a part of the obi. I genuinely though it was just a design. Thank you for showing this
could you give a list of all the item...or do you know where I can found all these item all in one shop
Any kimono shop will be able to provide the basic set, but the items you'll want and need will depend on how you wear the kimono and what season you're buying it for. Try Tansuya first!
After thinking about it after watching this and other videos I have one question. Why are the kinomo's so long? Most Japanese women are rather petite and they were even much shorter in history. It seems to me that they would be much shorter and would not need to be adjusted so much. They do look beautiful
Kimono are not meant to be bought and discarded the way that pret-a-porte clothes are today - they are meant to be used over a couple generations, so the size of the wearer would vary from person to person. For this reason, the fabric (tanmono) isn't cut to size, but instead folded inwards and upwards. To have excess fabric was considered a slight bit luxurious, too. Only dancers and non-laborers would have such extended pieces way back in the day (150 year ago or more), so often average kimonos were too short to have the extra folds and fabric once they had been passed on to the next generation, which would've gotten bigger. Tanmono in general have a very specific width, although this has gotten wider as the generations have grown larger. But from a western perspective, even the tanmono are too narrow to accommodate most of us - they are made for petit ladies even today.
Wont it be too hot with so much layers.????
This is a winter kimono, so it's just right for winter. In the summer we have lighter, lace-like layers and yukata, which are made of cotton instead of silk.
取りたいんです?😂
This is beautiful. The world is in dire need of more elegant, traditional fashion like this.
할아버지 뭐해요?
Just beautiful to watch. Probably will never had this done but at least I can see how amazingly is done on this video
7 minutes? It'll take me 7 hours! And by the time I'm done I'll look like a size 20 instead of an 8!
I just watched I got tired that's why I respect the traditional kimono the women who wear it
Subscribed ❤❤❤
Love it ❤
拙者何者でござる!
I was going to get a kimono custom tailored for me but I need to make sure that I have all the essential pieces and where I can get them
Any kimono shop will have all the pieces.
That’s amazing. Didn’t know it was that complicated. So cool
Man!.... Im just fascinatingly exhausted, amazed. Classic traditional clothing!

Yes, there are light, lace-like kimono for the summer!

Very lovely thank you I particularly wanted to make sure left over right that has great significance i believe. I have two gorgeous antique kimonos but do not wear them traditionally since I am not japanese I adapted them to my own style and comfort and had them sewn together in the front like a kaftan and shortened since they were very long indeed...now I can wear them as caftans with or without belts made of the material cut from the bottom or with broader belts from fine silk shawls or just loose....i will wear one tomorrow with jade pins in my hair why not?
Well Iam 12 yrs and Iam searching how to wear kimono from blanket
good luck with that!

Best video out there!!
O my word. This is just too much clothes. Still want to wear it though. Someone gave me used one. But after watching this video, I realized I am nowhere near the realm thing. Imagine after undressing at you r wedding or of this. My GOD truly is amazing. Would love to spend a few months in Japan - with a traditional family, dress and everything, unmolested.
First day in Japan and I went to Asakusa in Tokyo! There was a shop renting really cheap kimonos and I went to try it out! The lady was very fast to help me put it on, and styled my hair beautifully too. The steps she used was the same as this video! If possible, I would definitely recommend trying out kimonons in Asakusa or Kyoto, but make sure to make reservations in advance!
Hlw , I'm an Indian girl , I'm 14 year old and i really love Japanese culture.,, I also want to wear kimono ..... I want to go Japan in my life ..
Thank you for this valuable tutorial!!! LOVE the pacing and clarity.
My only question is.. where can we buy them, as an American?
I don’t know where they sell kimono in the US, but you can try ordering yukata, which are casual summer kimonos, on a place like Amazon. I am based in Japan, where there are kimono shops in most towns.
I'm currently using this to properly draw one of my character in traditional Kimono, and it's been very helpful! Beautiful clothing, and actually surprisingly simpler than it seems. Thank you!
Just last week I bought two Kimono, two Obi and other stuff for it on a small market at Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku. The Kimono were only ¥3.000 each and the Obi ¥1.000 each and everything in good condition, so I think (or hope) it was a good deal, regarding the prices in Kimono Stores. Sadly they are both Kurotomesode, so they are not really made for me (a teenager) and I will probably not be able to wear them in Japan or around people with Kimono knowledge, but I just had to buy them and I love black Kimono and am still very happy about them!
You can wear them! Kuro-tomesode are just for parties. So you can pretend you are going to or from a party when you wear them out and about!
Wow! Its not easy to wear, but it looks pretty though. As an Indian I feel it’s easier to drape a 9 yard saree. Maybe it’s bcz I’m just used to it
Yes, it's all a matter of getting used to something. Few clothes are as easy as a sari! This is more like getting dressed in corsets and heels during the 50's, when fashion was more complicated and people got more dolled up. It is not as common in average clothing for youths today.
Hi I love very Japanese is a very cool city🎉If I go to Japanese I can kimono❤❤❤
yes but where do you find the whole set?
It's rare to find a whole set. Just like a person would buy jeans, T-shirts, underwear, bras, socks and jacket separately, Japanese clothing items are sold separately, too. When you're in Japan, go to a kimono shop, or to a second-hand kimono shop in places like Asakusa. That said, these days you can buy yukata sets online for pretty cheap. Yukata are summer festival wear, much easier to put on, since they're what used to be pajamas! Use a page translator to brows sites like Amazon Japan and Rakuten to find sets you like.
@@PaprikaGirl_JP thank you very much, I was very confused on where to find everything, I thought it came in one set, now I have a better understanding! <3
I never realized how many layers this takes 🥺
Just the underwear, the petticoat, and the kimono. Summer kimono just use the underwear and the kimono.
Thank you! I want to sew a doll with kimono and this video will help me!!!
God how many layers 😢
Thank you soo much I can do my un
