Come for a drive. Whether it's a leafy little lane, a motorway or a busy urban scene, I hope you'll enjoy it.
The exhilaration of driving on the open road speaks for itself. But driving doesn't have to be about going fast. Driving is usually a social experience - interacting with other road users, anticipating what each is going to do, giving and taking.
The standard of driving in the UK is pretty good, in my opinion. Most people are prepared to give way when it's appropriate, often with a show of the hand, a salute or a quick, acknowledging flash of their headlights. And considerate driving can be infectious, just as rude driving can.
We must be doing something right in the UK - we have the second or third best road-safety record in the world. That's still just over 3,000 road deaths a year. That's 3,000 too many. I believe the figure in the USA is over 42,000 road deaths a year.
Take care!

Tasty vegetarian stir-fry with beans and cheese
มุมมอง 20412 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my simple, delicious stir-fry. I'm not a vegetarian and I often leave out the beans and cheese and add a piece of grilled steak, or some fish, or an omelette. Anyway, Jamie Oliver et al have nothing to worry about here!
Bristol, England. Cabot Tower - views over Bristol

It's well worth climbing all the steps to see the views over Bristol from the top of Cabot Tower. What's more, it's all free.
Bristol, England. Whiteladies Road improvements.
มุมมอง 94912 ปีที่แล้ว
After months of work and traffic disruption, Whiteladies Road in Bristol has at last been 'made-over'. There are now neat islands in the middle of the road, with trees and small plants, and there are coloured surfaces and bright new road markings. I like it!

Trying to get a lonely French swan to go back to safety
มุมมอง 20413 ปีที่แล้ว
This swan seems to be the only one left living near the lake. It was in danger of being hit by a passing car. Was it looking at its reflection in the car door? Or had it mistaken the white car for another swan?
Ducks diving for food in icy water

Ducks diving in freezing water in Yate, near Bristol, England, on Christmas Day 2010. Almost all of the large pond was covered in thick ice. There was just this one small, sunny area where water was accessible.

National highways says it’s the first motorway video in 2007 National Highways videos 2007 - 2024
First motorway video, you should make a video that matches this!
this gonna get in people's recommendeds
cheverons are still used today!
When approaching Clifton in the opposite direction along Portway road is the turn onto the A4716 onto the Bridge Valley Road a sharp turn left?

M5 Southbound or Northbound TH-camrs?
Hinton Charterhouse ... the village where I grew up with the best friends ever. The video brought back so many great memories. Sadly ( for me ) the video starts just after our cottage!
Wow a lot of old comments here
Can you explain how to use it, with a voice over pls. My test is soon. I hate double mintound abouts like these ones. Thank u
What radio station were you listening to
Back in the late sixties I was walking along the portway pavement with a friend of mine called glen who had recently scrambled up the gorge with me on a free climb with no ropes on st vincents rocks. He was telling me what a good film ' the devil rides out' was, which I have seen since, when we were walking underneath the suspension bridge a boiled sweet which someone must have thrown from the bridge just missed him & landed at his feet. It could have been nasty or fatal if it had hit him or me on the head. Another survival experience.
the music in this video is god awful to the ears. If your going down the road of royalty free music then choose something a little less migraine causing please
It is raining of course...
The old Severn Bridge, all to myself
That was brilliant! I loved the way the Roller fishtailed a little as it pulled away @ 0:37.
Just GIVE WAY TO THE RIGHT! a lot of people don't seem to know how to use it, just treat each one as an individual and give way to the right.
Blabla
Just come across your video - Drove myself this route recently love both towns - stayed in a lovely gite in la ferte mace. Keep them coming!
if you played that music...we are not suprised you had the bridge to yourself.
It would have been better if the time lapse was seamless IMO
From england? You're driving on the correct side of the road, and sitting in the wrong seat
No they are not pointless. Keeping those huge gaps is what keeps traffic flowing and prevents stop and go traffic that occurs when drivers keep slamming on their brakes every time another car merges in front of them. It's a big road out there. You don't need to be riding the bumper of the car in front of you. At best you are only going to get where you are going five seconds sooner by doing that.
I do exactly the same thing. Several of my vehicles have manual transmissions and it is very annoying when I am trying to leave a gap so I don't have to clutch and some asshole just has to cut in to gain 10 feet.
Just beautiful there in Bristol Dave. I'll be in London the first week or so of July so maybe if I have a car, I'll drive around up there.
Thanks for doing this Dave, Its nice to see how the older Bristol compares to modern Bristol. The Centre shots are more as I remember them instead of the concrete covered version. Thanks again John
Yes, it's dangerous in some parts around by the Downs and the tour guide warned us take care. Cuts in local council spending have meant that tree pruning has not been done.
I've watched the open-top tour buses going around Bristol, and after umpteen years I actually went for the tour last July. I'd recommend it to anyone!
David, do you work on a tour bus?
Thanks for posting this. I hope to visit Bristol someday. My only concern is getting hit by a tree branch whilst riding along on the upper level of one of those cool double decker buses.
in the 1970s that junction used to be traffic lights and the accidents and tail backs were awful since the introduction of the double mini roundabouts it seems to flow better although still bad at rush hour i
Well driving on cities or country roads aren't that much difficult. What's perhaps a little more difficult is intersections (mainly roundabout). It's definitely easier when you have the matching car (the shift stick reminds you're on the "other side"). For instance I'd be a little bit more scared on motorcycle because there's nothing to remind you and you can easily get your old habits back if there's no much traffic after an intersection on a country road.
Chevrons are absolutely pointless. It all depends on the speed you're going. If you're a truck in the slow lane doing about 55mph, there's no need for such a huge gap. And anyway, chevrons don't work - if you leave such a massive space in front of you, loads of other cars go into that gap, defeating the object. Whoever designed these pieces of shit needs to get into the real world xD
Like bubble&squeak.
It was a Sunday morning, back in September 2008. Thanks.
This tune works well with the vid. I live in this area, and crikey, the roads were empty...what time was this filmed?! that Bridge valley road junction is usually very busy.
Thanks for sharing - I've just seen me!
Man, this video brings back memories. I remember waiting for the torch bearer to pass by in my neighborhood for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. I recall the festive mood as being exactly the same as in this video. Good show!
Watching a MLM at work. Anything wrong with the left most lane?
0:35 i have the left one
@JumpinPakFlash Konnichiwa haha :-)
@04smallmj Hey it's you! :)
This is great!
Another middle lane moron. Drives me potty. Forgivable I suppose, though, as he's new. Just this once!
@tooolest32 Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching!
useless roundabouts
@Vauxhall94 are you crazy? hes hogging the right most lane doing the speed limit, that cause massive trouble on motorways in rush hour :|
good to see you sticking to the right hand lane doing 70 causing massive congestion :P
@ec123456789able @ec123456789able Thanks for the suggestion. I've now taken some new shots. You can find details on my updated description.
@Lymos524254 I believe there is nowhere else for these residents to park. At least they are all on the same side of the road. And their presence helps keep speed down through the village. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching.
