I appreciate the instructional. Great knife. But damn man, it's frustrating to watch you fumbling around with the tiny parts just so you can wear those gloves. Why do you need those fkn gloves for this job? You drop almost every screw and washer at least once.
Ha. Thank you, I guess because I started out wearing gloves I feel like I have to keep wearing them for the continuity of the videos... I also have pretty bad shaky hands and that doesn't help either. Regardless, thank you for watching!
No surprise here...🤣
A little disappointed, might try to superglue the thumbstud back on... thanks for watching!
Spyderco went away with the red loctite a while back. Im surprised you have red loctite. None of mine do all the way back to 2021
It might not be red loctite but when I tell you I have spend a long time trying to unscrew that pivot I mean 1 or 2 hours... might have to try and find a cheap heat gun from harbor freight or something
I have not purchased a Benchmade in 4+ years, so I cannot speak on the quality. All my Benchmade knives have no issues.
Looks like you got in before the crash!
I know one thing... When it matters most, thats when prime deliveries seem to flop the hardest 😂.
Probably true, ha! Love the user name Elonald
Benchmade is hit or miss for everyone. Some will buy one horrible uncentered blade or some soft S90V for $400 and be put off forever, a mini osborne was almost this for me. You could also get lucky and get a perfect specimen like my mini adamas. I've also ordered an osborne on the custom shop that came on point, customs I think will almost always be. $400 though. The price for what you're getting is generally the biggest complaint and it's valid. Bugout is silly, also that crappy thin one they released to much hatred. That aside, there are a few gems in the lineup that for whatever reason are more competitively priced, griptilian and adamas for example. I particularly recommend the adamas or mini adamas in either cruwear or magnacut. The heat treat on these are both done well at 65 hrc and price to materials doesn't look so bad.
The taggedout is probably the only Benchmade that I would say came "perfect" out of the box for me, pretty much every other one has had at least 1 or 2 issues with it...
@@DXSharpening The custom shop is the way, that or pure luck. I didn't even need to adjust the pivot on my two good benchmades. The one they had sitting around for a couple years was trash though.
The AR-RPM9 is controversial only because it's been described as powdered steel when it's not. It's actually spray form steel. It's comparable to 9Cr. The spray form has smaller, more uniform carbides than ingot steel, but not as small as powdered steel. Not a bad steel as long as you realize what it is. Takes a finer edge than ingot based 9Cr. Has wear resistance comparable to D2 but is full stainless, where D2 is semi-stainless.
I was disappointed that the marketing called it powdered steel when it wasn’t, but my AR-RPM9 blades perform well. Plus I would have never known they were not powdered from my personal use.
Yeah I'm not a steel guy at all, but I do know there was that whole thing about the naming of it. The knifesteelnerds guy had a nice article about it too
just ordered the livewire from BladeHQ. figured it would make a decent edc around the house/yard .
Yes, most main brands available on Amazon. Bought a few Spydercos, Cold Steels, Kershaws, Benchmades, Vosteed all on Amazon. So far all genuine, no counterfeits. All US made except the Vosteed and Cold Steels which were made in China or Taiwan.
Great to hear, I know there are some sellers on Amazon that are pretty questionable but as long as you're careful it doesn't seem to be a huge problem. There are verified dealers that sell through amazon -- Deadwood Knives, Robco Knives, etc
I Hate Benchmade for a few Reasons 1) I’ve had Many Many Lock Failure’s, 2) I’ve had Major Blade Chipping and Complete Blade Breaks, 3) they are Highly Highly Over Priced and 4) they are Anti 2A. Benchmade will never get a Penny From Me Ever again and will be Bashed by me every Chance I get.
Can I ask what models you had lock failures on? Do you mean springs breaking or the actual lock failing while in use? Thanks for watching!
Just sold my last one a few weeks ago. First time since 2014 I haven't had one. The cpm154/S90V version was my first and the s110v version was my last. I've owned at least 10 different versions, and between those 10 versions over 10 years, I don't think I ever carried a PM2 for 10 consecutive days.
No longer a fan or just got bored of it? Very cool to hear you had 10 different variants though, I think older Spyderco stuff looks awesome
Glad to see you commenting here too, thought I lost you with the Fintiso hahaha Appreciate the continued support as always 👊
Ganzo is able to produce a Spyderco PM2 copy in 440C stainless for 22$ while the original PM2 costs 220$. Considered the Original has better steel but then that steel upgrade may cost them only 10$ more on the market. So you pay roughly 190$ for the brand name only. The Spyderco in any case should not cost more than 49$ on retail with the best steel and heat treatment.
American Made products made with materials sourced here always cost more, it might be a little inflated in price but you're paying for a substantial increase in quality. I hadn't heard of Ganzo before but they look like they have some interesting imports
I could give you a huge list, but it's not worth my time.
Hopefully I covered a lot of the reasons, but there are lots of other comments that talk about pretty much every reason there is haha
Just watched IT 2 and this is basically the blade the bully uses.
Had to look up the scene, can't tell exactly what knife it is but you're right!
There boxes kick ass I did the same bought a 300 soon as I open it ordered my 2nd I got a microtech and benchmade microtech t shirt
That's awesome, glad to hear you has as great of an experience as I did! Hoping they come back in stock soon once they recover from the storm! What models did you get??
@@DXSharpening ultratech and benchmade griptilian minni think it is
They have a email me when In stock option
@caseygammelgard8355 that's awesome, both are great knives, looking forward to hearing what you get from the second one!
@@caseygammelgard8355 yes I'm signed up for the alert when they come back in stock
BM, was my gateway to the knife world , I own a ton of them and was a big fan boy. But no longer like them .. they used to offer free clips and screws without question, I miss the 30 dollar blade replacement days .. and frankly their products just feel cheap for the price .. with that said if I see something I like from them I’ll pick it up; but past year or two nothing really appeals to me … pricing is just ridiculous!
I'm in a similar boat! Hoping they realign with the rest of the industry soon and begin to improve on their designs!
Got mine with the jade scales, CPM-M4 and a dlc finish.
That's awesome, I've never been a big fan of coated blades but Spyderco does an awesome job with theirs
@@DXSharpening yeah they’re pretty solid. It’s one of the only knives I have with a finish other than my rat 5 with a powder coat.
The Caribbean and lil temp are no-choil compression locks Fintiso... lol.
I want to check out the sage too, just wish it was made in CO Fintiso did surprise me, it really isn't a bad knife... not the most comfortable in hand but it feels well built and on par with CJRB and some of the civivis I've owned in the past. Likely because they're made in the same factory or something along those lines...
I think I fairly criticized it for what it is, but it is also a $50 knife... doing the best I can to remain unbiased but if you think there should be stronger criticism let me know
I have a Caribbean but I didn't buy it off of Amazon. Nice corrosion resistant knife! Love the LC200N blade! Not cheap though...🤔
@@johnruiz6743 awesome to hear, I'll definitely check it out
Benchmade Freek $280-$340, GIVE ME A BREAK!
Pretty insane
Snowflakes, price gouging, cutters of guns.. lol and snowflakes frick'in snowflakes. " we have pretty colors" only 400 dollars
I have collected 100's of Knives over 50 years. Ive seen dozens of Benchmade knives id like to have, but they always cost at least twice what they're worth!
Definitely true!
When the bug out was $120 sure it was pricey but really good. Now at 180 for a BUG OUT? Hell no. My bugput didn't even last.
You’ve got tiny hands
Thanks
Benchmade better watch their back 😅
Thanks for watching!
Great breakdown.... I agree... the pricing structure for Benchmade has gotten out of control. I don't get how the Bugout is so much more than something like the Griptillian and such. I don't get it. I don't think that enough people talk about Benchmade "problems" right now. I think Buck is one company that used to have a bigger role in EDC knives but I think their designs has caused them to fall out of favor with many. Great video though!
Thank you! I really like Buck and I think they're making an effort to modernize and return to their former glory
I never see a Microtech who fail so often ..!
Problem was solved, check out my newest short to see!
Overpriced. With ultra cheap scales for the Bugout over 200.00 ? No thanks
Thanks for watching!
I sold my fairly large collection of benchmade blades. and bought hogue and spyderco and never looked back.
I've started to sell some of the ones I use less often and I'm really enjoying the other brands I've started to try out
I have a bunch of Benchmade knives, but I haven't bought any in quite a few years because of all the reasons you mentioned.
Thanks for watching!
Spyderco is literally cheaper feels more premium, and they make so many custom scales and hardware out there. You could build a more original one that nobody has to yourself over the bench made.
Great point, thanks for watching!
They cost too much, they think the brand deserves a price.
There is some validity to thinking that, just not the insane markups they try to justify at least in my opinion...
Look at the prices of the original BenchMade altitude as well as the new model, absolutely crazy high prices for what they are. Glad someone is actually stating the facts comparing these companies vs trying to shill to get a sponsorship
I think they still make a decent product, just trying to call it as I see it
@@DXSharpening I agree 100% the knives are good and not far off from what most knowledgeable people would consider competitive pricing. Drop most models $20-$40 and they’d really be putting some pressure on their competitors and 90% of the online hating would disappear
I remember owning some of the first Benchmade knives made. I loved them. They were different and built better than many companies at the time. Then they kicked it up a notch. I couldn't wait for their next release. ATS-34 was the premium steel at the tim 5:24 e, and I collected as many as I could get. Eventually they moved out of California and opened a huge factory in Oregon. When my knives needed repair they shamed me over the phone for taking their knives apart to clean them. One time threatened to void the warranty. I started buying other brands. When I came back, I noticed their knives quality control was over looked.Grind lines were off, liners sticking, terrible action and way overpriced. I still have a place in my heart for them and love some of their designs, but I would never pay $300 for a small kitchen or fishing knife. Other companies are doing more for less.
Definitely agree with you! Thanks for watching!
I did the sesame thing
?
The pricing is the one legitimate complaint. The prices are high. But compare apples to apples. Don't round up the Benchmade price, then compare it to a competing knife that's on sale. Oh the lockbar on base Bugout is titanium. Not saying that justifies the price in any way, just sharing an interesting tidbit. BM used titanium there to save on weight.
Kershaw livewire ~$220 depending on where you get it and what model Benchmade infidel ~$495 Same handle, magnacut vs d2, same warranty Benchmade bugout ~$164 for stock blue one Hogue deka ~$170 for g10 G10 vs plastic, magnacut vs s30v same warranty Benchmade 940-2 ~$207 Spyderco para 3 ~$190 Same handle, s30v vs s45vn, same warranty, no springs to break in spyderco Bugout ~$164 Microtech msi ~$180 Same handles, s30v vs m390, huge size difference, same locking mechanism, same warranty, same brand reputation All made in usa, I could keep going for dozens of knives... that's pretty apples to apples for me
@DXSharpening Yes those are apples to apples.
I bought an Ultratech and would have bought another but it was too stiff for my dad to use. He loves the spyderco i got him.
Glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
No
Thanks for watching!
I only buy Spyderco these days after selling all my flashy expensive Knives. For me its about use not collecting anymore. Spyderco delivers in performance and overal quality.
Great point, thanks for watching!
Love me some Benchmade ❤
Fair enough, I enjoy using some of their knives for sure but I think they do deserve criticism! Thanks for watching!
Bugout problem solved.. instead of spending $180 on the basic blue Bugout, get a 535-3 Bugout on the secondary for $200 or less. You get a huge upgrade for the $20.. carbon fiber, CPM S90V, blue accents, what’s not to love!?
You can definitely shop around for some nice deals on Benchmade and I think that makes it a lot more reasonable to get them... honestly could probably find some nice aftermarket cf scales and throw them on a stock bugout for a similar price
Love the little throwback to “fiery but mostly peaceful” hahaha
First comment about that, glad someone caught it hahaha Thanks for watching!
The last Benchmade I bought was an Adamas 375-1 fixed blade, a really good knife, CruWear with 63-65 HRC, but also expensive at the time. I don't see myself buying a knife from Benchmade in the foreseeable future, the price-performance ratio is no longer right at all.
The fixed adamas is awesome, it just seems to insane to pay that kind of money for a fixed blade that has a mediocre sheath and no scales... I got one for I think $150-$160 and I think that makes it significantly more reasonable. Thanks for watching!
Damn can I not get this crap in my feed. No I don't care that you bought oil
Lol
Because I can name 10 other makers off the top of my head that make a FAR superior product for the same price.
Just takes a little bit of shopping around to find some other great brands
Got a Civivi praxis almost one (1) year ago. Does everything I need, has been solid and reliable, affordable price. Then there’s the $10 Ozark Trail….’nuff said…..
I still have to see if I can get my hands on one of the ozark trails that just came out!
omega springs break. The spyderco manix and microtech ram lock does it better.
Definitely true, thanks for watching!
Why not include Cobratec? They’re made in Texas. Is it because they don’t overcharge like the rest of the knives you reviewed? Never understood why people think because they pay more, they’re getting a superior product. My Cobratecs are top notch and the biggest one with a 4 inch blade was just over $100🤷♂️🫡
Cobratec is actually assembled in texas with all imported parts I BELIEVE (could be wrong) and I do actually have one that I really enjoy
@@DXSharpeningohhh gotcha understood, I didn’t think of that! I guess if a company is made in America and uses only materials from America, it justifies the significant price difference. Idk personally I couldn’t spend more than $200 on any knife, especially when I can find the same quality and functionality in another knife for drastically cheaper. But a knife enthusiast I can definitely understand, I’m a tool and firearm enthusiast 🫡
Here’s an example. A bugout in s30v (7.4inch) is $180. I can get a Heretic Mini Pariah in magnacut (8.1inch) for $195. Yeahhhhhhh lol
It's the same if not better quality too! Thanks for watching
I do like their knives but their pricing in my opinion is too high these days. Plus I don’t like their political donations also. Also, you are right Spyderco is expensive too, but where I give them credit is that they are willing to try steels that no other manufacturer will touch like Maxamet, Cpm Rex 121, or k390.
Spyderco consistently has impressed me with their quality, I do wish they came out with some more fun designs in the USA factory though
@@DXSharpening exactly and I feel the same way too, with more stuff in the USA
@@LuisGonzalez-gl4wc hoping for a native 5 sized knife without the choil similar to the bodacious...
@@DXSharpening that would be nice and I like the native 5 platform also. And would like to see one without a choil also. My most carried blade is probably that one in Rex 45 and the Delica in k390
@@LuisGonzalez-gl4wc I really like the para 3 lw and would love one without a choil too...
