Why You Need This If You Have A ROM Collection
I go over why you need this NAS device for your ROM collection. A NAS will help you store 1000s of ROMs & is essential if you are into collecting ROMs of all shapes & sizes.

PS3 simulation will be cool!
Just now discovered you. The quality of your TH-cam videos are insane. It's funny, educational, well edited and actually useful. Keep it up man.
I’m messing around with Ubuntu at the moment. The only thing I’ve got running on it is casaos. That’s hosting jellyfin and emulatorjs. I haven’t finished setting up EmuJS
Can you make tutorial please
Such an awesome video! Recently got a NAS and was wondering what else I could do with it
I got an i3 10100 powered prebuilt from goodwill. Using the intel gpu I would get screen tearing like that in psp. Changing to a dedicated gpu got rid of that. I used a rx 550 which maybe a little on the weak side. If I were to do it over I would use a cheap nvidia card as they appear to have better opengl performance! Xemu is supposed to support vulcan "soon", but who knows when it will come out then make it into a batocera build.
I learned more from this video then I did from 17 years of public school ( grades 1-12 )
Need more chungus
The “What the heck is a Nas” with a picture of the rapper Nas made me laugh out loud. Great content. Engaging & informative!
Honestly wasn't terrible imo. Did better than expected. 720p was more than playable.
Can you create ROMM Private Site Tutorial
Can you create ROMM Tutorial
hands down for around same price if you look for a lenovo p520 they are cheap with really decent specs 900 watt power supplys with two pcie 8 pin power cords can put almost any graffics card in it a 6660 hundred amd to a 6700 xt is a great choice or even up to a 4070 but my point is a super better gaming rig that can do much better over all , i hate being a debbie downer but this build just dont maje a lot of ecomical sense to me , but ya live and learn at least what's possible , look into the p50 i guarantee you will love all the options the 2135 processor is the sweet spot if ya do 6 core 12 thread or the 2145 8 core 16 thread, ive found these old machines very very good.
Keep this going bud. Great video.

I got an old Dell from my last job and converted it to an Unraid server. Now it hosts my roms but also my Jellyfin server that my kids stream on their ipads, a minecraft server so I don't have to pay Microsoft for a realm, and even Ollama in case I wanna mess around with free, self hosted AI. There is so much you can do and messing around is half the fun of these projects.
That's awesome! That last sentence rings so true, there's really endless possibilities when it comes to homelabbing!
I know you cleaned the monitor but... Clean the monitor >3p
Those Dells thought they were going to live off the rest of their days in retirement but they're getting put back to work! Nice video!
In this house they work until they die!
I have done this but game cube even with a full latest bios will not run
Great video. I wish is had the space.
Thank you! Hopefully you get the space soon!
i wish i had the space
I found your channel a week ago and I really love it. I got an old pc lying around and will also create a nasty, tho maybe with fedora linux, plex and nextcloud on docker. Not sure yet tho haha.
I'm glad to hear you enjoy the channel! And go for it! That sounds like a awesome plan. It's better than the PC collecting dust ya know?
Look at all that NAS 👀
It do be poppin
That old i7 can only handle low end PS3 games. RDR and GOW are the hardest games to run.
Hey Denis, do you know Dexter? he also has a laboratory.
Honestly, I like the idea of running a PC game database as an archive in self-storage, but it would be even nicer if you could just stream the games from that PC or a virtual machine. It would be ideal to store them, download them directly, and have remote access like Nvidia Shield upstairs. Instead of having each game on the game server downstairs, you could use Nvidia Shield to stream them to your cell phone or even from another location, like a coffee shop."
pretty cool in concept, just wondering wgat the purpose of this will be in the long run rather then running like an SMB or FTP server? can you sync savefiles or something, or even run it directly similar to artic base?
The nice UI & the sync with IGDB for videogame metadata. Like I said in the video, I didn't do too much of a deep dive into ROMM because I mainly wanted to show it off more than anything. But in a future video I definitely could if there's enough interest!
I would do something like this but I dont have a rom collection yet 😅
Now's not a bad time to start before all the certain videogame companies remove their property from all the public ROM sites!
Return of the chungus, giving the people what they want!
Already know I had to do it to em!
I don't know if this is as great as it seems as a Windows user. A lot of the bargains on these ex-office PCs are on CPUs which aren't supported by Windows 11 - and while you can install it still, maybe Microsoft won't allow that in a year or so - who knows, power's in their hands.
For sure. At that point, I would probably run a Linux distro if worse came to worst. But only bad thing about that is the support for drivers & games in general on that platform. That being said, fortunately there are bypasses that currently work to install Windows 11 on older computers.
Dude, DONT SHOW VIMM! They just got blasted by a massive copyright takedown thanks to people on tiktok talking about them because of apple allowing emulators on iPhone. Theyre in real bad shape, and don't need another hit. Just say you got the stuff off the internet archive or something
This is a great video! I'll probably get around to doing the same using my old ThinkPad home lab that I've got set up. Hope your channel blows up :)
Thank you! It’s pretty worth it if you have an extensive collection!
Nintendo will get bad karma eventually, they need to stop attacking history.
What they're doing is definitely tragic. That's why it's up to us to preserve!
Thank god, I was really wondering how Denis' Laboratory stole all those roms for YEARS now Thank you
Stole is a strong word. Let's say under new management 😈
@@denislaboratory I miss read the title as stole 😶 that's to only reason I clicked on the video
Hahaha! I said nothing then... ...though "stole" sounds a lot more badass!
a guide for setting up nextcloud on debian using Tailscale would be very cool
If the only function for this is to serve the rom files for you then why not just do simple directory listing with apache or nginx? I guess the cool thumbnails and metadata are cool enough...
I was thinking about doing something simple like that when I first came up with the video idea. I honestly wouldn’t mind it but also thought having the display cases showing would be cool as you said.
When usin tailscale you can use the machine name instead of it's ip to connect. Either works but machine name is memorable.
For sure. Honestly, don’t remember why I used IP. Guess I’m just a simple man.
RAID is not a backup lol
100%! I was planning on adding a segment on how I back this up but decided not to so I could get to the point of the video faster. And as to why I’m using RAID here is mainly cause I had the 2 drives so I figured why not.
This guy cleans his phone screen using an angle grinder.
LOL
and / or literal elbow 💪 grease
Sadly in 1975 bthe largest storage device was the IBM 3850 mass storage system which held about 260 gb of data. So basically what im saying in your 2 hard drive could have held the entire USSR's data and still had room for roms
Wow, so maybe I should be grateful then!
what about emulatorjs?
Does EmulatorJS have ROM storage features?
@@denislaboratory as i know, no. it needs to be stored locally on your computer
I thought so
So nobody gonna talk about why he has 2 versions of Luigi's Mansion?
Shhhhh ;)
In all seriousness, one of them is the NTSC version & the other is the PAL version. It was necessary so I could play a co-op mod.
@@denislaboratory Thank you for the explanation. It irks me when I'm browsing my own collection and see duplicates, especially when I "supposedly" got a one game per rom collection. 😂 And of course I can't tell why there's dupes because it only displays the name and not the zip or iso file name.
@@Cyko.. I don't like duplicates either so I get it haha!
Try using throttlestop and overclock that rtx 3050 to see if it runs smoother
can you do more videos about rtx 3050 6gb plz, like others emulater or stuf like that
For sure! Stay tuned.
I think the CPU is the problem
Yeah definitely is a bottleneck. Unfortunately, with this model, the most powerful CPU model I could put in is an 8700 😮.
what the heck is a kubernete
Nerd stuff!
Rom tut pls 🙏
+1
Those office PCs have a great bang for buck as low to mid gaming pcs. Especially the ones with NVME slots and 9th gen - 6 core i5 etc.
100%! The base specs on these really aren't too shabby.
Everyone knows the eye can only see 30 fps max, this is perfect.
My eyes see in 24 👀
Summers here ! Time to upgrade from my laptop to something like this, been searching for deals for a while. Just a waiting for the right OptiPlex now.
That’s awesome! I would recommend the Optiplex 5060 or the Optiplex XE3. Best bang for your buck in my opinion.
