The River Wye - Calling them out!
On a bitter January day, on an incredible fishing session, catching a fish every cast, Catch More Media boss Tom Scholey questions why Dave has been so vocal about people supposedly campaigning for the River Wye recently.

    Love your work Dave , I know you come from an attitude of passion and integrity. We've had chats about the Wye and the Great Barrier Reef for a few years now. As you know I live and work on the reef as a Boat captain and Diving instructor. The same type of people are saying the same type of things about the reef. They're are all Green and socialist. This is not a dig at political preferences it's just a fact. I'm 'A'political so I don't care who people vote for. It's just a fact , also all of the people claiming the reef is dead are also getting grants and funding from the tax payer to subsidise their failing businesses or to get the tax payer to buy them a new boat. Billions are being spent on reef research surveys which are pointless and will not make any difference to the reef, I've been involved first hand with the research. alot of people are making alot of money from it. Thats the bottom line. All the best mate

    Money corrupts and currently there is a war on farmers and food using the 'human climate change' scam as a lever to do so. The lines between pollution and climate are being intententionally blurred. It would suit the powers that be to close down the chicken farms and create shortages or maybe they are waiting for the bird flu scam to do this? As for all the bought NGO's with a so called 'interest' in the River Wye all the MSM has to do is ask their 'opinion' and it is front line news😂. As anglers we know what a brilliant fishing river the Wye is and always has been. Who better to ask than the people spending hours on the riverbank? Unfortunately it does not fit the 'narrative' so that is why we are being ignored.

    Well put Dave I was fishing just above symonds yat the day after the oil incident and it was plainly evident even that far down!! I agree with the phosphate levels on the river, I’m also an avid koi keeper as well as an angler! The high phosphate doesn’t add up and cannot be blamed for the reduction of weed growth, phosphate actually encourages weed to grow, it’s pretty much an aquatic fertiliser and as a koi keeper we actively try to remove it to stop weed growth, this we can only do with water changes or chemical phosphate removers. Removing the weed then encourages algae blooms which we control via UV lights, not possible in the river! If the scientists say the wye is lower in phosphates now than 10-15 years ago this would explain the reduction in weed and more apparent algae blooms.

    • @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363
      @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great points and the sort of thing I’m learning more and more about to try and understand how our water is reacting. I think it’s a perfect storm in some ways. Droughts, low flows, lack of weed, algal blooms. I do believe the ranunculus is the key to so many characteristics we used to see every year. These groups don’t mention climate

    Its the very same thing as " Climate Change " Science says, is the smoke screen they use to pull the wool over the general public, who sadly , believe anything and everything they are told through the media. And why ? Its a money grab, as simple as that. They can justify taxing you for , well everything really, so you think you are doing your bit to " Save the Planet". In reality its us, the normal everyday folk who need saving from them. The gready, self serving globalists who care not one jot about the planet and care even less about us. So wake up everyone. @@anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 Yes. CO2 driven 'climate change' is bullshit. The climate changes - it has done for the 4 billion years that the earth has existed. Can't tax that though can you - so 'invent' the perfect vehicle (CO2) and bob's yer uncle. Funny how they are just going after agriculture mainly - yet still pouring sewage and other nasties in everywhere. WE ARE BEING HAD! The 'Salmon problem' is everywhere - it's not just the Wye. Our little local river (the Clywyd) has seen Salmon almost completely disappear too - for the reasons you've suggested NOT because of chicken farms. Same for dozens of other rivers all over the country.

    The EA can never cover the vast amount of water . They do however monitor out flows but not very regularly so it would have to pot luck that they are there at the same time as a spill . You can report pollution incidents on the " hotline " but I've found on my river they never do respond . Too many spills going on up and down the country , it is criminal thats for sure .

    • @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363
      @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It was an angling friend of mine who discovered the pollution. The EA were slow to react but he told them he’d wait by the river until they arrived. Took about 3 hours from first phone call. The key is now, there should be pressure from all sides to make sure the EA don’t think it will go away without questions being answered. The problem being, they want it to go away as it doesn’t suit the agricultural pollution agenda.

  • @mg10056
    @mg10056 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Shouldn't The EA collect samples from various parts of the river on a regular basis, to provide factual evidence on the 'actual' state of the river, rather than someone's perception of the river ? BTW.....It's the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy chapter 6 verse10. Money itself is not evil, but one's love of money.

      @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s the whole point really. The EA, NRW and NRA before did/do collect samples and it’s plain as day, Wye phosphate levels have fallen continuously to a 5th of what they were in the 1970s. The data is there but has been completely ignored by the ‘Not for profits’ to paint an entirely different picture. Apologies for not only quoting the Bible, but more importantly misquoting it! 😂

      No. The salmon decline in the Wye happened suddenly in the late 80s. Since then, despite a couple of glimmers of hope here and there, what’s left has declined at the same rate as most of Europe. It’s hard to find anything linked to chicken shit except the growing number of ‘Not fur Profit’ organisations flooding the Wye Valley looking for money.

    The Angling Trust have pioneered a Water Quality Testing network across several major rivers. Is that happening on the Wye and the section you say is thriving and is it showing that water quality is suffering against EA accepted levels?. Having fished the same stretch of river for 40 years its difficult to assess if water quality is the primary factor. Different species seem to disappear for a while then reappear. The chub and barbel have generally got bigger but not numerous in all the changes in coarse species the trout and grayling have been a fairly constant. There are other factors like the frequency of flooding that have historical records to see if that has been a factor. There are a lot of people and organisations chasing votes and funding it is difficult to know who or what to support ..but its good to call out the hypocrisy or lack of interests... On the same stretch of river ive seen more kingfishers, goosanders, mink otters cormorants, egrets and herons than i can previously recall..Definitely had a few years when the streamer weed disappeared but that is making a come back.
