    Great video. I have a sundance thats a shallow V. (Sundance is identical to a carolina skiff) Its well rounded for all bay boating. You didnt mention how small/ midsize V bottoms are tippy is some conditions and how flat bottoms are very stable while not under way. These flat bottoms can also have a high amount of load capacity because of their design making them great commercial work boats/ guide boats. But usually wont have as high of a HP rating as a V bottom. Pros and cons to every boat. Just wanted to add that😁

    Catamarans have trouble with side on seas. When one pontoon drops into the trough of the wave in rough seas many have been flipped.

    A lot of mistakes in this. Aluminium is more expensive than fibreglass for one, flat bottoms are the fastest on smooth water, the deeper the vee the more power it takes to get on plane. A flat bottom is common made of aluminium because it is stronger and easy the use a sheet of aluminium. Complex shaped hulls are often fibreglass because it is easier to work the material and is cheaper but not as strong or light weight.

    A mono hull is a hull with a single (hence mono) planning surface, therefore a flat bottom and a v hull are both monohulls, a flat bottom just has 0 deadrise.

    Flat bottoms plane on the water with correct engine and are quick, not monohulls ever

    Great video, I am making a boat and was wondering about the hull. I was planning on a flat bottom catamaran and for my use I think it will actually be the best. I read your bad comments but in such a short video you can't go into detail. You can have a flat bottom catamaran/tri hull or countless other combinations. I think you got the basics right and although some of the critics are right in areas there generally wrong. For example "Flat Bottom Boats are the fastest" as to this comment just google the world water speed record. Another example for multi hulls is the distance between the hulls, obviously you are just going into the basics as hydrodynamics are complicated but I think for a short video you covered the basics well. Thumbs up.

    bs comment #2 tri hulls hve v/high drag as compared to most every other type of hull, but u gain in stability yet hve similar wt carrying to V style ship. They r harder to get on drag vs V hull also.

    flat boat boats in glades using air power r quite fucking fast, no drag to speak of & less drag air vs water 1st bs comment.

  • @kevinmorin7965

    Steven, can't say how wrong some of your over-generalizations are!!! Cats draw more actual depth compared to comp Displ of others as the section of body plan is smaller than flat or mono! They simply cannot physically draw less than mono hull unless of less all-up misplacement- which your narrative skips! Silly statements many wrong beyond remark! You need to make all section types into equal displacement to make ANY comparison! Your video is not very factual!

    Very interesting and perfectly explained! I would love to learn more about the specifics of seakeeping and behavior of recreational boats with a planing hull in the size of 35 to 45 feet. This seems to me the main criteria when buying a boat like this, but there is not much substantial information out there. If you want to go out at 5 bft with your family on a planing boat, what hull specs should you consider? How important is deadrise for a smooth ride with minimized slamming? How big are the differences eg. between a northern hull like those of a Windy or Marex and one like Atlantis or Sea Ray? I would be so thankful for some answers!

    You said at 1:12 that flat bottom boats tends to have the worst speed among the four. Wrong. flat bottom is the fastest among the four types because it is the only type capable of hydroplaning. You never mentioned hydroplaning in this video. All racing boats are flat bottom. Look at the drag boats and jet river boats, they are all flat bottom. The world's fastest RC boat is an out rigger type and it's flat bottom. Racing boats of Thailand are flat bottomed. Bangka boat racers of the Philippines are flat bottomed The rear part of a racing catamaran is flat because that is the area of the boat that starts to hydroplane at high speeds. Hydroplane racers are all flat bottom.(u) You forgot to mention hydroplane and hydroplaning.

    • @junnelcaballero6515
      @junnelcaballero6515 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes youre correct. here in the philippines racing bagka's are all flat bottom and even built extended about 3inches each side like wings. this creates less turbulence and drag. overall its definitely flat.

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, flat bottom are the fastest on flat water, but in rough water the are too rough to maintain speed. Flat bottoms are king on rivers, also the reason fan boats use it.

    There are several things for constructing boats: Give yourself enough time. Use ready made boat blueprints. (I learned about these and more on Denelle boat builder website )
