william shatner had a really early role in "the defenders" from the early 50's as a guy who beat someone to death with his bare hands in self defense, and his hammy style showed through there too. i also remember nimoy appearing in "the new breed", the cop show starring leslie nielsen from the 60's but i can't be sure. also, too lazy to confirm but friend of mine said that deforest kelly was really happy when people only remembered him as dr mccoy because he'd previously been remembered mostly as an evil cowboy and kids never wanted his aurograph and were kinda scared of him.
