I am an African but I want to say this: Africans are their own enemy because they fight each other on tribal and ethnic lines leaving the enemy in form of imperialists (Chinese, Europeans and Americans) ransacking our mineral resources while we are stupidly fighting one another. Worse still, African leaders go and parade themselves before Xi Jimping in China at the so-called Africa Summit (how stupid!). I hope this idiocy is stopped by my generation today.
Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 Shona and Ndebeles, Nigeria 🇳🇬 Igbo and Yoruba, not Africa 🌍
Tribalism and being part of a community and being proud of the community is two different things. One with cultural ties another is a social issue. The history of communities in Africa, we owned communal lands and systems in each community, but we also traded and got resources from other communities. Even new languages erupted from that inter trading, and intermarriages were seen as good as it brought good relationship and ties between communities. Tribalism is a social issue, where people favour people of their community in work places, whether or not they have merit, and deny people outside of their community opportunities, despite having merit. Allow me to point that tribalism has caused many Africans countries problems eg 2007 post election violence in Kenya. Check yourselves!
Please do not bring tribalism to the United States. Imagine how the United States would be if Black Americans had a tribal mentality over the last 400 plus years and did not believe in flat blackness/pan Africanism. The American landscape would be totally different and would not allow any opportunities or civil rights for anyone other than Caucasians. Reciprocity is needed for everyone Black (whether African, American or Caribbean) to all benefit and that is what we are missing. Please say no to tribalism…
African Tribes are natural and historical African Nations. What you live in now in the Continent of Africa are European drawn states, splintered and fractured from top to bottom.
You young kids need to disconnect yourselves from your parents sordid mindset of tribal sentiment. IGBOS teach their children even those born in America that those who are not igbos are enemies. thats why you see their children marry people from their locality, or none Nigerians. It is not tribalism, it is wicked heart, emanate from slave mentality. A person from free home/family, will see every body the eay he or she was raised.
I know a particular ethnic group from Ghana who only deal with and help people from their own village. There's a lot of them in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, the DMV and Massachusetts. They're beyond tribalist, they're villageist but they're very powerful and they clearly have a pipeline to the US.
‘they're villageist but they're very powerful and they clearly have a pipeline to the US.’. My friend are you hearing yourself? Having connections and being powerful contradicts being “villageist”. However you on the receiving end who doesn’t have these would be a better fit for the word “villageist”.
This conversation is totally Nigerian. Personally i think from a historic stand point talking about the purpose of tribalism amongst Nigerian would help🤔 the passing down of tribal belief and it's significance in the lives of those who benefited from it as well as those negitively affected should be a part of the conversation. Tribal ways are in no mean casual , the route is deep and in most case carry Hate amongst other things 🤔 however the pushing down of ignorance through the evolution of humanity should bring about the abandonment of such beliefs that foster Hate towards your fellow neighbor or human being.
Nice observation. Thanks for the feed back. We hope to revisit the topic and will welcome your input.
Very interesting
I love this concept
Thanks boss man
Nice one ❤
Thank you
Tribalism is negative…
No don't say African diaspora. You are talking of Nigerian diaspora so be specific 🙄
Unfortunately, it's almost all African countries with this attitude and mentality of tribalism. It's not just Nigeria. Maybe the exceptions can be the Africa based Arab states namely Algeria, Libya and Egypt.
We want to hear from YOU! Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. How has tribalism influenced your life or your community? Let's engage in a meaningful dialogue and work towards understanding and unity

If you are complaining too much about the American system, why are you still living there?
Our belief is that no environment is perfect
@@wambetv exactly. No environment is perfect.
The home and family are the initial crucibles of socialization, where children first learn to navigate relationships, develop emotional intelligence, and form a sense of identity. To overlook this fundamental stage is to misunderstand the very fabric of human development. Let us not underestimate the transformative power of family and home in shaping our children's socialization and future success.
Male Guest Speaker: "The first place of socialization for American children is daycare." I'm afraid that's incorrect. The first place of socialization is actually the home and family, where children learn crucial social skills, values, and norms from birth to age 5. This foundation is essential for future social and emotional development. Daycare and preschool may build upon this learning, but they are not the primary source. Let's not overlook the vital role of family and home environment in shaping our children's socialization.
Not everyone agrees with the "it takes a village to raise child" proverb when it comes to raising children. I believe parents are the primary caregivers and most important influences in a child's life. As long as parents provide a loving, stable home environment, they can raise well-adjusted children without relying heavily on others. Because involving too many outside parties in child-rearing can undermine parental authority and create confusion for children receiving contradictory guidance. Village bawo
