@turtleboy428 I am flattered! Once the upper brackets are installed, use some template paper to wrap around the frame to the lower side of the tire carrier bracket. It is a tricky piece to bend. I used a hammer and a dolly to ease the bends whilst cranked down in my bench vise. The lower carrier reinforcement was made out of a thinner steel, so it was easy to bend by hand; a gentle curve is all you need. Weld/tack it on the end, then clamp it along the curve as you go.

There are lots of ways to do it. I already had these laying around. It sure beats digging them out!

I don't remember the specific alloy. It is 11 gauge, cold rolled steel. Nothing crazy and definitely stronger than the rust that was present before!

@joshuacruz4046 That is what the metal supply store had available at that time. The thickness of the steel was closely matched to the OEM too.

I would start by calling a local body shop. They should be able to get you in contact with a place that specializes in frame repair work. Another option would be to see if there is a race shop or custom fabrication shop in your area. Places like that are usually well equipped to handle work like this.

Yes. Those are the same symptoms as I had. The chirp/squeal is the metal belt slipping. Hopefully, a fluid change/flush will fix and prolong the life of your transmission.

That sounds like a neat idea! It can be tricky to find a flat area on an old frame. Especially with their stamped irregularities. Of course, the ultimate way to check for frame straightness and squarness is by referring to an OEM frame specifications sheet. They have a plethora data to help get things back to spec.

@@PostRt I'm literally in the stripped down and sandblasting phase of my truck right now. Do you know where I can get this spec sheet? Would you be interested in exchanging email or other contact info? I've been poring over your videos for weeks. They are amazing and have been so helpful.

If you know someone with access to factory Toyota Service Data, they should be able to get that information. The next best place would be to contact a local body shop. They will have that information available as they use it to bring vehicles back to spec after a collision. Lastly, they are hard to come by but, I was able to find some frame specification sheets on various Tacoma forums.

I was surprised by the number of frames that Toyota replaced. At least they tried to take care of the issue.

NVM! I looked it up and it's not fluid film/surface shield/woolwax/lanolin type product but an actual oil based finish. So disregard what I said above. Leaving my OP comment to inform others.

more info: I was curious if the Eastwood internal frame coating was a 1K Urethane similar to POR-15 but it seems to be quite unique. The description says " Tough phenolic resin penetrates and encapsulates the rust on the internal surface. Zinc phosphate seals it to prevent future corrosion." I might have to try this out on my '96 Taco. How's it holding up for you?

The Eastwood internal frame coating is great stuff. I will be using it on the rest of the truck and on future projects. It is very tough! As for your other comments, you've learned that fluid film and other top coats are applied after the metal is sealed up. It will act as a secondary layer of protection. If the frame is newer or very clean inside, I would just use a protective spray kind of product as a preventative. Good luck with your project!

I had to put a diode in the blue alternator exciter wire going to dash. Engine wouldn't always shut off. Another great video can't wait to see the finished product.

Ya no need for holes on frames It’s a money making grab by manufacturers If frames are closed They’d never rust The guys I knew did 2x4 rails straight frame closed no holes With eliminated body lifts Welded spring chackles To the frame Front and rear axles And you could put 35 and 38 on simple Guys were geniuses back in the day Had a great business called the toy box They made Fiberglass boxes as well Sadly I heard 1 partner passed And the other shut it down Anyway enjoyed video Great work

@@user-kk4ze4uj3y manufactures aren't trying to sabotage their products by making them rust out so they can sell you more frames. Making a bad product bad enough that it consistently needs repair and replacement just gives you a bad reputation. Look how much Toyota had to spend on their frame recall for the 1st gen. It was hundreds of millions. We need to kill this idea that every time a company makes a.mistake or a product fails that it's just to make more money. It happens occasionally, but usually it's to SAVE COST in the initial production, not some devious scheme to *maybe* sell you another product or repair later on.

I did this one for my personal vehicle. I have not done this as a repair business. It is a lot of labor, so I'd imagine a shop charging a pretty penny for this kind of work.
