Early 1900s AirBNB Episode 5 : Addition and Electrical Started
Thanks for checking out DIY Woodn't You. This is episode 5 of our early 1900's farmhouse to AirBNB project. We've got our permit pulled for the addition on the property!! We're doing drywall work, patching door casings and uncovering some beautiful tongue and groove wooden ceilings, and priming some of the tile ceilings to give them a fresh new look. The contractor and his crew tear off the chimney, grade the land, run the new plumbing, and we pass inspection so that we can pour the slab where we'll be creating our beautiful new master suite. I'm so excited that you decided to check this video out, and I hope you'll tag along with us on this journey! If you aren't already please subscribe to the channel to keep up with this series, as well as other projects we've got going on.

Thanks for checking out DIY Woodn't You. This is episode 4 of our early 1900's farmhouse to AirBNB project. This video focuses on the rebuilding of the kitchen ceiling, which was previously 7ft tall. What equipment do you use to make the complete wine holder?

    • @DIYWoodntYou
      @DIYWoodntYou 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I use a mitre saw, a drill with either a paddle bit or forstner bit, a band saw, sometimes a jig saw, and a belt sander. I believe that’s all.

      @@DIYWoodntYou what's the depth of the entire space? I'm looking to make something like this and I'm wondering what's reasonable depth of the room itself

    • @DIYWoodntYou
      @DIYWoodntYou 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If I remember correctly I believe the nook was maybe 22 or 22-1/2 deep. You have the depth of the framing (3-1/2”) + sheetrock on both sides (1”) + the casing on the inside (1/2” or 3/4”) + the 17-1/2 usable space. So between 22 and 22-1/2”.

    Please help. I believe that these are awesome and I want to put them in my business. What I need help with is, can you share some of your wisdom if I want to build the cubby bench with the entire ninety six inch top piece? Even if it's just minor Add ons that I would need if you could just provide some basic information that could at least point me in the right direction so I can in large the rest of the body to make a longer bench. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you can provide. I really appreciate the video and any guidance you can give!!!!

    • @DIYWoodntYou
      @DIYWoodntYou 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sure. That’s actually easier to calculate than it might seam. This bench is 48” wide. So your material list for a 96” wide of the same setup would just be doubled. I hope this helps.

    Could you tell me what the dimensions of this build is? And what it would be if we did the hall tree in your inspiration photo with the 4 cubbies across? Also how it would change the lengths in wood we would need.

    • @DIYWoodntYou
      @DIYWoodntYou 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In the video I break down the dimensions pretty detailed to try to make it easy to replicate. As far as the inspiration photo, it kind of depends on the size that you want to make it, as to what your material list looks like. It helps me to sit down and actually draw it out to figure up my material list.

      I can see that. The homeowner loves wood, and loves the original oak cabinets. She’s debated on painting the cabinet base or leaving it stained. So I build what I’m asked to build. 😉

    I love this!! Quick question, I notice that there is a space between the bottom sheet and the ground, I notice this is standard.... why is there a space underneath? Is it for keeping it breathable so mold doesn't grow under the bench?

    • @DIYWoodntYou
      @DIYWoodntYou 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Brittney! I could be wrong, but I don’t believe it has anything to do with mold. For me it’s just more appealing to the eye, because you can have it trimmed out nicely at the bottom, and it makes it structurally sound. I have seen people doing hall tree benches with vertical dividers opened to the floor lately, and I like the look. I feel like it would be pretty easy to knock one of them out of whack though….so I dunno. 🤷🏼

      Something happened with my email a little while ago, and all of my responses to comments got deleted. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I did notice quite a change in temp. If I remember correctly in the heat of the summer it was only about 12 degrees warmer in there than it was in the house. So, the heat has not been an issue. 👍🏻

    The ppl who installed mine didn't leave any slack in the pex, any suggestions on how to add length?

      Dang, I’m sorry to hear that! My only suggestion would be to cut a piece out, maybe to the closest joint, and replace it with a longer piece to give you some more slack in the line. 🤷🏼

    I want to build an entryway tree but I don’t understand anything you’re saying 😭😭😭 I tried to download a 3D model program but I don’t know how to use it either.. I have a bunch of tools but I also don’t know what to do with them. How do I even learn? I have a model with measurements. Is it really this extensive?

      I’m a female btw. This would be my first project. Like I know some things but it’s clearly not enough

      Thanks for reaching out Zoe! I understand how this can be completely overwhelming, both the build aspect, and learning a design software. Here's how my brain works, so it's not so overwhelming...Break it down into manageable pieces. Grab a tape measure, sharp pencil, calculator and note pad. Figure out how deep and tall you want the bench to be. Break it down into layers from there. The bench needs a face frame, side panels, inside panels, back panel, bottom panel, and top. What are the actual dimensions of the material used to build that? Good thing to know : 1 x 2's actually measure 3/4" x 1-1/2", not 1" x 2" 🙄. Same goes for all lumber from a big box store. Alright, so the depth front to back of the face frame (white primed pieces in the video) is 3/4", then you figure you want a bullnose that sticks out on the front, that also measures 3/4". So now you have 1-1/2" of material thickness. If you want your overall bench depth to be 16", then you subtract the thickness of what you just figured out from that (16" - 1-1/2" = 14 -1/2"). Now you see that your side panels will be 14 - 1/2" deep. Just go piece by piece, and do the same thing, and it will come together! Reach back out if you need to along the way. I'm going to try to sit down and actually make a downloadable build drawing of this. That would be helpful... 😁
