78. Four New Years Resolutions in Pottery⭐
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! ⭐In this episode, I tell you about my four New Year’s resolutions in pottery.
*Talking to myself kindly about my pottery, especially when things go wrong - an inevitable part of the pottery-making process! Creating a kind, safe space in my own thoughts to make mistakes.
*Prioritise experimentation and playing in pottery.
*Creating a joy list of things I really enjoy doing in pottery (one of them is this podcast!) and only doing those things.
*To stop rushing through making pottery and instead savour the process of creation.

A lot of info but very over explained and no instruction or even a graphic of what one looks like. Not encouraging potters to tune in. Sorry
Great thank you
How to make a stone colour pottery what material use
Very nice video sister but please tell me translate in Hindi please
I can we make colorfu,l to the ash glaze.
Just curious...when is porttery/ clay art not vegan?
Good morning, and thank you interesting pod cast, I've not long brought a kiln, not used it yet, fire at college still.
Thanks
Thanks for this info! It would be super helpful if you could add timestamps to this video so we can watch the tips that apply to our process. Thanks again! :-)
Thank you! I enjoyed your video The specific temps would be helpful as stoneware temp can vary depending on who and where you ask/ look
This has been so helpful I will stop pulling myself apart when things go wrong
Do you also think that we often look at other potters that make the same production pots with tried glazed where as potters that make a variety. of different pots and glazes are taking more risks and because of that more problems can occur but it also can produce interesting results that we can build on thanks for a very useful aspect of pottery
Thank you for all your info and tips surprised their are no comments I think people who watch videos are used to the demonstrator actually doing the work in front of them as a professional potter I can follow having done a lot of pottery I think your books are great and to be less positive is great thank you
Such good information but a demonstration would have been so much better.
OOoo why am l looking at picture of you?
Watched it all...made notes..why didn't you do a demo? Should l attached my cloth to the board? Or leave it loose ...
Hello, l am literally 1:24 in watching your video and lm thinking 'yes, this girl is speaking my language'..as a newbie l find rolling out really hard!!! I'm going to continue listening. Xx
Thank you. This was neat. I'm an American. What's single cream? Also, I just found out that the Cornwall Stone Mine is closed, so I'll need to use a substitute, which is fine.
Several trees on my property...will think about making ash.
That was delightful. Thank you for sharing information.
I wish you show how to stick things to the clay.
The dish more than likely broke off like that because you probably used 2 different types of COE glass, different makes of glass will have different COE(coefficient of expansion-a measurement of how the glass expands and contracts when heated and cooled down ) if your glass has two different rates such as COE 90 glass and COE 1 04 glass is incompatible and will crack on Cooling down. I only know this because I work with glass And it’s a hard and fast rule never to mix different glass manufacturers
Artist Mairi Stone is using what looks like a glass paint inside her little dishes and it seems to stay on the walls of the dishes too…the colours are stunning
Mairi uses various coloured sieved on Glass Powders stunningly ❤
Gratefully, there are a lot of videos elsewhere.
Please research the artist Yasmin Smith, her work is very similar to yours.
Still you could have came across something special, reaction wise to the surface.
I love these videos, I'd love to see combinations or the use of stuff like food scraps. Maybe try out like a version of fossil vitra too. Love this.
❤
Thanks a lot! I new in to ceramics and started to make my ow oxides as I live in the middle of the amazon jungle so it's really expensive and difficult to buy it here!! I make brass oxide with swimming pool clarifier I just put the brass inside with water and the clarifier for couple minutes and next day is completely green. then just scrape off. thanks a lot for all the tips!
Love this, thanks for sharing your methods, going to give them a try
Hi Katherine. I am teaching myself to make nerikomi ware. My biggest challenge is joining the different coloured clays because you’re not supposed to score or use slip. You need a really clean looking join. So it’s proving rather difficult!
Love your videos Katherine!
👏👏👏

We’d love to see a demo!
🎉hi dear kathreen i was extremely pleased to hear how you answered my question. it helped me a lot and gave me self-confidence. we use stoneware in particular, and this alone vitrifies and becomes waterproof. so cracks are just beautiful, beautiful drawings. i will get the books mentioned. thank you for being so sympathetic. warmly nici 💜
Thanks that was super useful. Just the basics, exactly what I needed.
Wonderful, im only firing in a paper kiln with wood, not sure if ill get hot enough. Need the book!!
No example of the glaze fired? :/
Vegan ceramics ? huh ?
I got a nice lil chuckle from that myself ! 😂🤣
skip to 6:30
Would it be possible to mix the glass powder with the glaze and paint it on? To try to get it to melt down the inside of the bowl
What temperature/cone are these ash glazes fired at?
Again, thank you. I’ve done advanced dip in ceramics some 25 years ago and now at 82 yo am working/playing toward an exhibition at a small local gallery. You’re inspiring me to explore my own simple glaze style using available ingredients. Much love and appreciation coming your way from Australia 🤗🙏🏼
Bless you and thank you very much. What temp do you usually fire to? 🤗
Thank you so much. I so enjoyed listening to you and love what you’re doing. Bless you 🤗
Hello, I really like this video! I wonder if a person can use vinegar to make their slip, instead of water? What do you think about this? Thank you 🙂
Thank you! And I can hear you just fine 😊
Please tell me hindi sister
Very informative, very useful! Thanks for creating this video.
