Smart Walking Dead Zombies?

I noticed in the first season that the zombies seemed to be a little more intelligent than they are now. Was this intentional or was it an idea they decided to change direction on?

I think they did explain it. In this universe, the zombies that are freshly reanimated are the smartest. While still not 100% figuring out how to get their prey, like when Rick hid in the tank and the zombies didn't know how to open the hatch, they're still able to use rocks to break windows or move at a slight jogging pace or even partially climb ladders when Glenn came across Rick in the alley. I think one of the newer episodes had a woman who wasn't even a zombie for a minute and she bolted towards a door trying to break out. As they decay the zombies get dumber and less physically active.

I'm a fan of the slow stupid zombies because of one quote from Simon Pegg after someone asked why Shaun of the Dead zombies weren't like the 28 Days Later zombies. "Death isn't an energy drink." To me the death distinction is what carries the quote. In TWD people die then reanimate. They have only the most basic motor functions and instinctual drive. That said I do like the idea of some freshly turned zombies being more agile and capable of basic problem solving.

I really like the idea that some zombies are more intelligent than others it could have added a whole new threat.. ive only watched up to season 6 ive seen people talk about variants or something in the newer seasons so i might be wrong now but yeah i really wish we got to see so called smart zombies.

So for those that don't know, or just haven't watches the series after some point, this wasn't retconned. Later in the series we see the return of Intelligently Walkers, we see them climbing walls and all that. And the producers came up with a reason for they are suddenly smarter. It's a tin foil hat explanation but it's all we got. Basically there have always been Walkers that are smart and run and climb and all that from the very beginning. It is just that none of the characters encountered them until later seasons because of luck. Basically most of them are just normal walkers, they walk, they claw at doors. But there are varients that have been smarter in that they climb walls and even remember things like how to open doors or where their homes were. Season 1 obviously makes this confusing as all the characters encountered were what seemed to he "smart" walkers. It's a glaring plot hole, mainly cause the director who made season 1 got fired or something and they were the one who made the walkers "smart". Like I said it is a tin foil explanation that when you really look at it makes no sense in regards to season 1.

  • @butercumdribbleiii8033

It woukd be so cool if like with humans there are both smart and dumb zombies. Like a zombie genius would be like if it can remember how elevators work with buttons, car alarms, using other walkers as meat shields n coordinate attacks (they focus on slow flanks n circling their prey like wolves just very basic level) then there’s animals. Imagine the type of walkers their coulda been. Instead of falling back on ok we found a place oh no a horde let’s run rinsebn repeat that constantly happens. Like maybe if they had to leave because they know with a horde is the possibility of a smart walker controlling it. N it remembers how to open doors, turn off cars or pop tires, can make trip wire traps that just trip ppl n a walker is buried in the mud ready to bite them when they fall, creating walker ramps over walls to walk over walls kinda like WWZ but slower. Then the variants of smart walkers instead of being geniuses they coulda been super fit as a human n as a walker they can jog for days straight. Like not fast but after 7 days of constant 5-6 mph trot could be dangerous if they form little bands of joggers. Brutes like Dwane Johnson woukd become juggernauts extremely valuable as a walker drone (like michone did with the walkers cutting arms n teeth off making them very good at holding lots of weight). Leader variants who create hordes. Then a mix of above average intellect n some physical prowess like some walkers can pick up weapons like bats, knives, sticks etc

See, they never clearly showed a new walker acting on the show, they always drill their brains out before coming back, with the exception of the dumpster group that rick and michonne faced, but even in that part, the walers didn't have a chance to show their skills already. that it was a closed environment. But, my theory is that in season one, the viruz had just emerged, so it wasn't as aggressive to the brain, causing some primitive instincts of the dead to come back, even though the walkers didn't know they were doing it since they don't have consciousness... Over time, the virus has mutated, and I even think it gets weaker with time, so in the series' Universe, maybe this virus will end naturally over the years, like 100 years

During the blizzard of 1978 I was driving a police patrol car. I was assigned to a call along a main highway on Long Island. Suddenly visibility was gone and i could not move in fear of hitting something. After about 15 minutes, we had a sudden clearing and found that I was right about 20 feet in front of a State plow which had also stopped. Whew.
