Underrated Thrower #91: Seven Time Olympian Mélina Robert-Michon technical analysis
A few things to note because I feel like you sometimes do these videos without knowing a ton about the throwers you're analyzing. 1. He starts duck footed because he IS very retroverted. 2. He isn't acrually that flexible lol he is just a taller guy. 3. He does shift. At least Martin coached him to do it. 4. His hips turn that way naturally out of the back because of his aforementioned retroversion. Many throwers turn this way naturally, Ludvik popularized this method, Powell then copied it. 5. Martin doesn't teach, nor does Claudio "spread the legs." 6. His left knee is going in out of the back. When the adductors are tensed, the knees follow each other at the point of stretch. The point of stretch/tension being athlete dependent. The path of the leg follows the stretch. 7. Piotr and Harting were ~ 280 but still dropped the knee. Just need to be strong. 8. Claudio is rotational, not linear. He is taught to be and is, rotational. Sweep path doesn't dictate whether an athlete is rotational. Being rotational does lol look at the path of an athletes hips and torso. 9. Piotr leads with the hip, not knee. Knee moves if hip does because the femur connects them together. 10. His left arm coming around like that in the sprint was a mistake that he admits to. Just a natural thing. He wasn't taught nor tried to do it. 11. Dorsiflexing is the word you're looking for. 12. He lands with his right foot that way because, again, retroversion, not because of being "too linear". 13. He does not push back into his block, he just simply blocks. It lifts because it lifts prematurely. Also worth noting he is not lifting intentionally either, nor is it because of a style. He does it simoly as a mistake. Martin teaches a grounded finish. He's very explosive but he's definitely not trying to lift.
@@ThrowinBombs80 Thanks for your comments all those comments are very intresting. I highlighted him being duck footed because I liked that, it is a very common thing to do. Also, just because Martin does not coach a lot of the things that I said does not mean he is not actually doing those things I'm saying. He still gets the same effects. I still believe he is more of a linear thrower and so was Powell as well. Obviously every discus Thrower creates rotational energy. When I said dont lead with the knee if you are 280 lbs I said be careful because it can hurt if you are not 280lbs of muscle. Also, yes I dont know the medical history of each athlete I analyze I am sorry about that. I do not know how you know that.
@@ThrowinBombs80 also spread the legs was more of a cue and he does because he is the one that told me that. The push back into the block is just a cue I use for the block there are many ways to block.
@@ThrowinBombs80 and I never said he is trying to lift the discus I even said he left the ground too early
@@ThrowinBombs80 I also said it was probably a natural thing that he bent his left arm in the middle I never said it was wrong in fact I went a 5 minute tirade about what it was not
@@ThrowinBombs80 I can also move my hip without moving my knee as well and pitor definitely lead with the knee.
I completely understood all of that. Great video.

"4th or 5th greatest thrower behind Alekna, Kantor and Riedl". Please!!!! Never heard of Oerter? Danek? Wilkins? I presume you're only talking about men, so we won't talk about Hellman, Elkasevic or Allman.
@@DHTCF none of those guys are world record holders I hold those guys to higher standards and kanter is my favorite thrower ever. Also people I respect the older guys but thier are so many people better than then in the ncaa now. Also, I have met and talked to Mac Wilkens personally and you spelled most of the names wrong as well. And Kanter, Alenkna, and Riedel are way better thank Shult. They are more decorated and threw further more often and lars best shult a lot.
@@DHTCF and yes I know all the people your talking about my bad that I hold world record holders to a higher standard. I dont even have baby alekna in my top 10 because of his lack of accomplishments even though he is a crazy talent.
@@adamleiva Oerter set 4 world records. Danek set 2. Wilkinds set 4 (2 of those in the same meet). Alekna junior is very talented, and obvs he now has the WR, but he hasn't won that much and I agree, GOAT status (or all-time great status) has to be based on accomplishments, not records. On that basis, I'd agree Schult isn't the GOAT - but as I've said already, I haven't heard anyone seriously contend otherwise. Equally, I haven't heard many people (anyone other than you) contend that Alekna senior is the GOAT. Because that argument runs head-first into Oerter's record - 4 Olympic Golds, each with an Olympic record, 4 WRs, an 8-year retirement followed a come-back that saw a 69M PR at 43. Records go (eventually). Medals count for more than records. Would anyone seriously argue that Carl Lewis isn't the GOAT of men's long jump (much as we might like to)? Alekna papa is impressive on that count, but he's not Oerter. Riedl I'd agree is arguably a top-3 guy. But Kanter? One gold and one bronze in Olympics, one WC gold? Is that better than Schult? Better than Wilkins? Remember, Wilkins' prime was in the era before there were World CHampionships.
@@DHTCF that's cool and the people I named are better than them and I think shult is as well. Also I dont know what point your trying to make, you are just naming names and random facts without actually making a point
@@DHTCF and kanter is l way better he has over 16 medals in major comps and has thrown over 70 more than 20 times and has beat some of the best ever to get those medals.
The title is clickbait. So what if he's not the all-time No.1? So what if he's not (even) top 3 - although there's a good case to be made that he's top 3 of male throwers? He's a Olympic, World and European Champ, won other medals at those champs. He held the World Record for nearly 30 years. If he didn't throw over 70m often, again, who cares? He beat the others at the time. Do we say Oerter was overrated because he won his first two Olympic golds at under 60m. It's not uncommon for world record holders not to dominate an era: Gordien, Silvester, Babka, Powell, Dumchev, even Schmidt.
@@DHTCF first of all crouser, sedyk, and anita both dominated thier era, and yah if you actually watched the video I said all the points you made and said he is probably top 3 best technicians ever. I meant he ain't the goat thays all no need to get upset my guy.
@@adamleiva Sedykh and Crouser are undoubted GOATs of their events. I don't think many people (anyone?) contends that Schult was the absolute GOAT of the discus, so it's apples and pears.
@@DHTCF and also a lot people just think the WR Holder is automatically the goat

How easy is it to accidentally fuck up your back doing shotput?
As long as you have the strength levels pretty hard to do that
I might know him ;) Crazy to discover this video you made so many years later. If you want to know more you can always contact me. Actually some East-German thrower (I forgot his name) back in the 80's threw a bit similar like Julian Wruck. I started implementing this technique after working with Aadu Krevald (Gerds Kanter former bio-mechanic). I experienced by placing my right food even more back, I just had to drop my body-weight to the middle of the circle, get the leg around me and just release the disc. Way less effort to throw far, but very hard timing, so inconsistent so not that useful in competitions, the shorter version was actually ok for that. Nice interesting video to watch, although some of your statements don't completely correspond with the real facts :) I
Wait is this the actual Erik Cadee? Damn it's an honor for you to watch my video. I would live to know more about your technique because it was always so unique to me. Why did you decide to go with this technique in the first place?
Also what facts did I get wrong I can make a follow up video correcting those statements that I made about your technique
And what do you mean bully the shorter version? Was that the form you used in the video or just a standard discus throw?
