I just watched several matches from Indian Wells 2023 (round of 64) and then I watched this final from 2005. I can`t believe how much tennis has improved in the meantime. Just watch this carefully and you will see that the "intensity" is roughly at the level of the WTA of today. They are playing almost casually, like in an exhibition match, the groundstrokes lack power from both wings and the depth of the shots is horrible. The ball is usually closer to the service line than the baseline. Above all everything looks so SLOW and casual. I guarantee that Federer played better tennis later in his career but they say his "peak" was from 2004-2007. Maybe his RESULTS peaked in that period but his GAME definitely didn`t. This was an awful level for the standards later set by the Big 3. If I hadn`t seen this I wouldn`t have believed it. Watch a Federer match from 10 years later than this and you will see proof of what I`m saying.
