Thanks for this great video. Before disassembly, I was able to see that the pivoting striker part of the base assembly was broken by looking through the capped hole just above the child door lock. The break was the same as shown in the video. I was shipped the wrong part and did not want to wait for a replacement so I repaired the broken part by drilling two 5/64 inch holes through the plastic outer 'cylinder' and inner metal 'cylinder', inserted a 4d nail (cut to size) in each hole, 4-5 wraps of nylon string, plastic epoxy for the crack and nail ends, and glue to keep the string sealed in place. Hopefully that was overkill and fix will be permanent.

Hi, I appreciate the video, I have removed my ignition switch in my 08 G6, but there is a black CABLE coming out of the back. It does not seem like it want to pull out even after depressing the catch. Any idea of what this is or how to remove it? Thank you

sorry about all my comments trying to help people is all! this part is dealership only 63.00 bucks and they said they must do something to program it to recognize key and computer! probably hundreds! only other way i found is key forward ten minutes three times in many forums! autozone nobody carries this!

autozone, napa, advanced all said they have no such part this is cunfusing! mine has code 1682 ing switch! and error on dash odometer says miles then goes to error! everything works no click no start! nothing replaced battery, alt, starter cleaned grounds traceed all wires. tried to bypass relay starter and it rolls over wont start! er er er! this must be a dealer only part with key needs programmed! hundereds and hundreds at dealer and you still tow car home! the company should reemburse every dummy with this piece of crap made car!

i think the ignition switch on this car goes to bcm not the pcm! these cars are nightmares gps tracker, onstar, sterring computer thingy all fail cause no start issues! hidden starter linkable fuzes impossible to get to, gm used cheap china wires all crack and melt snow and heat effect these cars!! greatly!! starter is next exust manifiold lol practely touching heat makes starters not work after use! wont start till cools down! these cars are basically push button start! only thhey use a key you turn forward and release immedetely car will start! if all is good! people who crank these key forward until starts and blow linkable fuze, it has like 9v always going to it theres two sources of power to start these cars! second source gives fast, quick start 12v energy. after starts relays close secondary power source! if you hold key forward you can burn any g6 to ground! the wires get hot melt smoke fire boom!!!!! all these cars have oil leaks in this trouble area! up by exust manifold! car was wired by blind, jewish, african, pollocks! theres a factory installed spy device onstar! reports your speed and daily driving if seat belts on ect... im a dispatcher and dealership hiden gps trackers all can turn car off sometimes these dvise fail and shuts off forever! nobody ever figures it out!

Alright what was going on why you removed it... I'm having a problem with my G6 it turns but wont start some times and just randomly dies out any time.

Thanks for the info on how to this, the regulator broke on my 2007 kia rondo and i couldnt figure out how to get the panel off or release the glass w/o breaking everything. Btw the dealer quoted me $350 for the window regulator assembly and another $375 for labor. I bought the regulator and also needed a new motor , that cost around $200. Watch the metal edges, theyre sharp .

If you replace the igntion do you have to flash the computer?

I just replaced mine, the car started twice and now it is not cranking.

I have a kia rondo the door will not open at all out side or inside ,how can I get the door open without damaging the door card.

My alarm went off and now it won’t turn over or anything. Completely dead. I disconnected battery and even changed computer to see if that was it and no luck. Any ideas what it could be?
