Blues Traveler performs "Optimistic Thought" and an improv blues jam with host Robert Klein. Their segment starts at around 20:30. The episode also features interviews with Alan King, Chevy Chase, and Yoko Ono, as well as a conversation between John Singleton and Francis Ford Coppola. Two short SNL-related segments about 29 minutes in were cut to avoid copyright issues.

มุมมอง 1129 หลายเดือนก่อน
According to Medical Marketing Media, this was "the first on-air volley in the drug-eluting stent wars". And probably the last, given the savage reception the ad campaign got from the media, including the New England Journal of Medicine: www.ptca.org/voice/archives/2008_0515.html But we'll always have this ad.

Discovered as a random upload to an obscure video collection archive.org, labeled simply "Blues Traveller Performance". This video has been dated to March 31st, 1990, thanks to Bobby's between-songs commentary about Daylight Savings time, which occurred on April 1st of that year. The splash screen at the beginning that displays the date of 09/20/1990 is a red herring, as the band was playing at...

Thank you for posting, you don't know how happy it makes me when you put up new footage I haven't seen that includes my boy Bob! I would love to see an interview with him that's more than just a clip
The best behind the music ever made is the woodstock one
BLUES TRAVELER AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES IN NEW ORLEANS WAS FANTASTIC ❤
This Austin City Limits episode is the 9th episode of Season 31 (2005-2006), featuring a performance by Blues Traveler and Cafe Tacuba. Blues Traveler brings funky blues jams to the Austin City Limits stage. Next, Cafe Tacuba brings Mexican music to the Austin City Limits stage.👍
I was John's English teacher at Princeton High, and he performed one of his songs in my class. We all knew he was very talented. I am impressed with his success. Thank you for recounting his music life since graduation. Patricia Thomas
OK, attention seeker.
I was at this show. That’s me yelling “Oteil” around the 42:50 mark. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
The opening notes of Mt Cry shocked me! In 2019? At a festival?
Oh, never mind. It was a fake out. Still fun to hear.
RIP Bobby 👃🥲
I can relate to John Popper in a way I chose food to be my drug of choice too The difference is I don't eat meat, poultry or fish I'm now 35 and now weigh 200 + pounds I know John was married later on and had a daughter John and Jordan divorced in 2018 I know John had his shares of arrests too I hope he drops the cigarettes and drugs so he can be there for his beautiful daughter and continue with the band
Great find
Just watching this now... surreal now that he is gone! RIP john P!
John is still very much alive!
The bass player died. A drug o.d. john popper almost died, he still is alive.
Quit making shi up
At 8:22 where Bob is being interviewed in 1993, does anyone know what interview this is or have the whole footage?? I saw another clip from that same interview and would love to see the whole thing!
Remember them in the 1980’s in Princeton…good times
Thank you so much ❤
One of my all time favorite Concerts was at Balboa Stadium in San Diego in 1976. Loggins and Messina, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, and Rod Stewart as the main Performer! He had the Tower of Power Horn section, and an eleven piece String Section. I had quit my Job to attend, I had someone to cover for me at Work, but my supervisor wouldn't let me have a substitute- so I called in eight hours before my shift and quit. I'm so glad I did, it was a most Awsome event.
That was a little spooky at 6:44 when the guy's eyes move in the picture.
Ha! Just a VHS glitch/artifact, but yeah. Or maybe Brendan is watching us THROUGH THE SCREEN
Awesome story, great band
Dave, thank you so much for this! Hilarious around the 29 min mark when John deals with the balloons with his sword! I finally got a properly synced video of some uncirculated BT content that I think you will enjoy ;-) th-cam.com/video/_RqG4cBD2SM/w-d-xo.html
OK ....... If they were to do a movie based on this band.....who agrees JOSH GAD would be PERFECT as Popper?!?!?!?!
Best live performance of Amsterdam that I’ve seen. Thank you!
Love this song, great video! Just got my tickets to see them on 8.20, will be wearing my F.O.B. shirt. Loved Bob, so sad I was to young to see him play before he died!
Not trying to be the one to comment 2min into viewing but...amazing to see and hear this tape I have had for 30yrs at a slower speed now leveled up and synched. Thanks in advance for the rest, and for the effort that must have been involved!
What's the song at 29:04?
A speed-metal cover of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode". A very common encore song in the old days, especially when they were up against curfew!
@@davidmallick3471Oh cool! Is this off of any of their albums?
@@thekdksshowNever released as far as I'm aware. They were going more for fun than quality with that cut.
I had been looking for this for a really long time, thanks so much for sharing.
I'm sure this is less deeply weird when this song is not part of the soundtrack of your life. I feel like I just had an out of body experience. 😂 Thank you for sharing!
That's should be their official theme song🌞🌦🌈🌦🌞
Thank you for putting this online
I'ma do timestamps on this when i get a minute
Fucking Bob! Outstanding!
This is so great....I miss the old days with really long 2 set shows.
Can't stand Lo-Fi concert vids. A great band. I hope others enjoy this.
The story that got a twitter user doxed by Popper 35:55
When I saw them in Whelans, Dublin, Ireland, on 11 March 1995, there were a dozen dat-cassette tape players sitting around the speakers, but I never came across a live tape of the gig.
The album, Live From The Fall is compiled from all the shows.
A great episode!!! One of the greats of rock!!!
There's no Blues Traveler "kind of" band on the scene right now. WE REALLY MISS THEM.
This is badass, Greenone! Passionate performance from the boys! First time I saw them was coming up on 4/12…
Wow, 5 months before I was born, this is great! I love seeing the old stuff because I wasnt there to hear it. Bob was sexy as ever, wish I could have seen him in real life but these videos are the best Ill ever get, thank you!
he really was sexy as ever
Epic find! Nice job!!
So sweet - Awesome find
Why is a rock star masturbating????
Blues traveler ranks just barely below TOOL as the best two out of the dozens of live acts I've ever seen. Popper shredding live on those harps was an experimence I'll never forget. (Even though i should have no business remembering it 😜🙃)
Blues Traveler with an orchestra - definitely need a good soundboard or pro recording someday!
Yussss…
God bless the tapers and traders, 🙏.
Had to do a Google search to find this, thanks for the upload!
Fantastic to revisit this, thanks so much for adding this David. Bobby's musical prowess was/will always be underrated in how it contributed to the fierce early sound of the band IMO. That said Im beyond happy to see the v2 version of the band continue on the road as long as possible. In my several interactions with them over the years I found them to be high quality human beings across the board. Humble and approachable in their 20s and 50's and all points between.
Thank you my friend!
Wow, so young and energetic! Having played in NYC for a few years up to this point, Traveler weren't exactly unknown; but imagine being an unsuspecting out-of-town Deadhead, finding your way to your seat during the opening band, and getting hit with this magic as the drugs are kicking in. The "Woooo Hoooo!!" during Chan's solo in Sweet Talking Hippie tells me they gained at least one fan! :)
"The Hook" is such a strange and brilliant song. It's genuine, emotional, sincere and speaks against the contrived nature of pop music by presenting a heartfelt parody of pop music. Performed by a master of harmonica. In the days of Nirvana ,how did this exist ?
Definitely the best of the "canon in d" songs. A song long before it's time, for sure!
@@alexallen6286 You are exactly correct. It is the lovely chord progression in the key of "D" made most famous by Johann Pachelbel.😊
The original album cut ran 4:49, with the harmonica solo running about 20 seconds longer than in the 4:20 single edit/music video version.
I saw this for the first time a few months back. Blown away!
Hope You have more episodes of behind the music
