You can run a Thermostart of a pressurised fuel supply as well... If you install a facet style in line clicky clacky 12VDC fuel pump after the filters and and pushing fuel to the injection pump.. with a "T" off to the Thermostart.. so you flick a switch on to activate the pump... at the same time push button activate the Thermostart... the flame then starts in the manifold heating the air and the metal of the manifold. After 30 seconds press the starter and the engine should immediately start.. release the push button for the Thermostart...and switch off the booster pump. Now the fuel injection pump will be sucking fuel all the way from the tank.. and there will be no pressure on the Thermostart to induce a leak there....

The thermostart is usually gravity fed from a small tank above the plug, so they can run a little bit before you start to crank. The idea is they apply heat and ease starting/reduce cranking to start. When power is applied they take a little while to heat and ignite the fuel. Plumbed like this, off of the filter/pumped fuel, you would have to crank an awfully long time to even get it to light. Also with pressurized fuel it might squirt a LOT of fuel into the intake manifold... it uses a thermal spring to hold its valve ball closed and it might not seal against lift pump pressure... the little feed tank is connected to the return line from the IP and injector weep lines so it gets refilled when the engine runs and is always ready for the next cold start... Nice running engine!
